23.01.2022 Recently, our educators participated in a professional development session; learning and developing new skills and knowledge on The Phoenix Cups. The Phoenix Cups approach provides a framework of how to understand and respond positively to different needs profiles to support a strong sense of wellbeing, for both adults and children. Just as we all have individual personalities; we all have individual needs to be met in order to achieve a sense of wellbeing and belonging to ...a group. It is when our needs are not met, our lives do not function the way they should. This not only relates to adults, but children as well, although unlike adults children may not be able to identify what cup requires filling. When our needs are not being met our behaviour change, our mood is affected, and we often feel unfulfilled (Phoenix Support, n.d.). What is your unique Cups Profile? 20.01.2022 Reflecting and Looking Forward With restrictions being lifted further, and more children returning to care, we have been discussing what we are enjoying and looking forward to. We still have a mindset of care, health and safety, but rejoice in the return to more choice and freedoms.... Our puppets Sarah & Alex facilitated the conversation: Arabella - "I stayed home" Claudia - "The virus made us stay home" Monty - "A little bit, it has gone away" Beau - "We can go bike riding and go camping now" Darcy - "We can actually visit houses" Claudia - "Going back on holiday" Neve - "Go to the swimming pool" Emerson - "Some friends to come and play - my room's all messy though" Charli - "Grandma is coming to visit" Charlotte - "Go to the park" Arabella - "To the park" James - " I will play with Henry" Huon - "I going at the farm on weekend. Moo cows. I'd like to sleep at Rossy's" Henry - "I'd go to Cairns on a plane" We hope you enjoy the long weekend ahead with your loved ones, in our beautiful home state.

19.01.2022 Harmony Week Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values. Australia is a vibrant and multicultural country from the oldest continuous culture of our first Australians to the cultures of our newest arrivals from around the world. Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths and is at the heart of who we are. It makes Australia a great plac...e to live. An integrated multicultural Australia is an integral part of our national identity. All people who migrate to Australia bring with them some of their own cultural and religious traditions, as well as taking on many new traditions. Collectively, these traditions have enriched our nation. To Celebrate Harmony week we designed age appropriate provocation and learning experiences to enhance children’s understanding of their sense of belong and connection to the world around them. The youngest of our children have been given provocations that allow them to explore their curiosity of the world. These have included looking at their identity with mirrors and reflection. Whilst making connections with items that develop their senses such as music and spices. This notion of developing our identity and sense belong has spread throughout our service. Considering who we are and how we connect together as a community. Our older children took this concept further and though conversation with families we considered our connections to the world. Our educators have also been participating in celebrating cultural diversity in the work place. Throughout the week educators have brought in a dish that encourages people to share stories and learn something new about each other by enjoying a meal together. #harmonyweek2021 #ATasteOfHarmony #EverybodyBelongs @harmonyweek2021 https://www.harmony.gov.au/ Regards, Alicia ECT

16.01.2022 This week Glen Dhu Children’s Services is celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples during NAIDOC Week 2020. The theme this year is Always Was. Always will Be. The following explains the theme in more detail: 2020 National NAIDOC Week theme has been developed to shine a focus on the length of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander occupation of Australia. In our narratives Aboriginal people talk of continuous occupatio...n of being here when time began, we are part of the Dreaming past, present and future. Anthropologists and archaeologists have dated our sites to being hundreds of thousands years old, in fact recording some of these sites as being the oldest on this planet. Additionally, the NAIDOC theme seeks to get teachers, students and community to explore and learn about, and appreciate the wealth and breadth of Indigenous Nations, languages and knowledges of this continent. Exploring and learning about Indigenous understandings of the environment, plants, animals, greater astronomy and cosmology, waters, land use and protection, Indigenous sciences and maths. We need to question ourselves and understand: How does learning these knowledges expand current western teachings to have a greater understanding of the world around us as individuals, as a community of learners and activists in looking after our environments? (https://www.naidoc.org.au/) Educators in the Explorers, Marines and Cubs have developed the research question, How can we make Aboriginal culture and perspectives more visible in our program? Attention has been given to developing a program and setting up engaging environments and provocations to stimulate curiosity, exploration and questions. The children are provided with opportunities to discover, play and create with quality resources and a focus on the Tasmanian palawa people’s culture and language. Educators and children work together in researching and investigating learning potentials. At Glen Dhu Children’s Services, we believe that we become who we are through others and these relationships are defined as democratic and respectful. Our relationships weave us to Aboriginal histories, the story of the land and the environments we are located on, family cultures and individual stories and journeys. We incorporate Aboriginal perspectives throughout our program, working respectfully with culture, language, stories and truths of Australia’s First Peoples. We invite families to share their knowledge, resources and ideas with us. Please speak with an Educator if you have something you'd like to share to support our learning. Summer Early Childhood Teacher

15.01.2022 It is Infant Mental Health Awareness Week (IMHAW) this week. This year the theme is "Seeing the world through babies' eyes." This theme is about tuning in to your babies' earliest experiences, and understand how the early years lay such an important foundation in babies' emotional development.

15.01.2022 Dear Families, Our service is working with the Be You program, which provides educators with knowledge, resources and strategies for helping children and young people achieve their best possible mental health. 11.01.2022 We have been reflecting on our outdoor area over time and have started to make some big changes! Over the weekend, Huon's (Explorers) Dad, Mick, worked with us to create a new outdoor sandpit. Evie's (Marines) Dad, Wa, had the pleasure of emptying our old one and we will develop this space in due course. The new sandpit area is a work in progress and will be added to over time, so we would appreciate your ideas to incorporate into this space, keeping in mind our connection ...to nature and natural elements. Today was the grand reveal and the children were excited to use it for the first time. We can confidently say that they spent every available moment creating, exploring, experimenting, imagining and collaborating. We give thanks to our community helpers and look forward to the further fun and learning potentials that arise. Summer Early Childhood Teacher.

10.01.2022 On Wednesday 5th August, the children awoke to a winter wonderland in Launceston and surrounds! The day spent in our service was unlike any the children or Educators have ever experienced at Glen Dhu Children's Services. The children were able to explore and investigate snow in the outdoor environment, posing questions and sharing their thoughts, observations and theories. The children delighted in many opportunities to play and discover, participating in throwing snowballs, ...building with snow and making coloured snow. Positive, vibrant and excitable energy filled our day and we are thankful to Mother Nature for providing us with such a rich learning and life experience! We have started making our own Snow Day display in our service, where many of the children's thinking and photos have been documented. We invite you to send in your own photos of your child engaging with the snow at home, so we can add these memories to our display. Please feel free to comment on this post with a photo also, so that we can share the snow magic with our families. Thank you. Summer Early Childhood Teacher

08.01.2022 NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK 2020 Our theme for #NRW2020 In this together is now resonating in ways we could not have foreseen when we announced it last year, but it reminds us whether in a crisis or in reconciliation we are all in this together. Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Abori...ginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures. Find out more about National Reconciliation Week Check out 20 ways you can be In this together in 2020 Together, we can foster a sense of belonging Together, we can create and access culturally safe spaces and places Together, we can learn from the past as we forge the road ahead Together, we can nurture and care for Country Together, we can walk the path of reconciliation.

06.01.2022 A Childrens Week 2020 Update Each year we work closely with community partners to coordinate activities and events across Childrens Week, which is the last we...ek in October. Traditionally we have celebrated the week with the much loved Teddy Bears' Picnic events across the state. Unfortunately, due to CoVid-19 the Teddy Bears' Picnic events will not be going ahead this year. This was a difficult decision for us to make, however it is one that feels right for us and our partners. Childrens Week celebrations will still be going ahead this year, it will just look a little different. We are anticipating smaller, more local events around the whole of Tasmania. Over the coming weeks, we will also be asking children and families for their ideas about how they would like to celebrate Childrens Week. Its time for us all to start thinking about what we can do to promote and celebrate the rights of Tasmanian children.

06.01.2022 One week to go... How will you say thank you to your amazing educators? I know I cant wait to surprise our team as they are all amazing and deserve recognition every day! #earlychildhoodeducatorsday #LoveMyECE... https://thesector.com.au//early-childhood-educators-day-i/

A special mention goes to all the children who rode their bikes at the service and/or on family rides on the weekend. The enthusiasm, commitment, perseverance, care and empathy... that they demonstrated was incredible. We are fortunate to have an amazing community here at Glen Dhu Children's Services, so THANK YOU for your support.

05.01.2022 Thank you Dr Vanessa LaPointe for this wonderful share. We all know nature play is incredible, but why are so many resistant to it? How can we support them to accept and understand the importance of children’s immersion in nature?

03.01.2022 Dear families, We would like to take the time to update you with the learning that has been happening in the Cubs, Marines and Explorers rooms over the last few months. The Cubs room have been emphasizing the development of physical skills, specifically taking on healthy risk-taking and challenges to develop new skills. ... They have also been developing their sensory processes, engaging with materials and experiences that encourage the children to explore and make connections. Relationships are continuing to be built, building each childs circle of security and attachment with Educators. AUSLAN has also been a focus in the room, supporting the childrens communication, understanding and expression. In the Marines room, the children have been engaging with ongoing projects, such as the 7 Elements of Art, Move Well Eat Well (with a current focus on Yoga) and researching and investigating the Spotted Doves that frequent our outdoor space. Individual goals and interests have also been significant, with Educators ensuring that individual childrens developmental needs are provided for in their play. The Explorer children have welcomed Annette back into the service, with an art program that focuses on different art around the world. So far, the children have explored Mexican Suns, Australian Gum Trees and Japanese Cherry Blossom art. The children worked very hard on the NAIDOC project and competition, submitting their Lutruwita artwork for the Always Was, Always Will theme. Social skills have been a big focus over time, where children are building reciprocal relationships, learning to positively communicate and negotiate, take on challenges, problem-solve and practice the shared community expectations and responsibilities of the room. The children have had an ongoing interest in music, sharing their favourite songs with their friends. To extend on this interest, Summer has been providing them with her microphone and amp. The children have been displaying their growing confidence with singing and performing in front of others. We look forward to having you back into our learning spaces soon, where you can view our environments, programs, displays and childrens learning. (Please note: photos for this post will be uploaded shortly) Thank you, Summer Early Childhood Teacher
