25.01.2022 This handsome little fella was handed in this morning. Found wandering in Russell St. If he’s yours, please contact us at the clinic so we can get him back to you. In the meantime, we’ll enjoy plenty of cuddles!

22.01.2022 It’s Vet Nurse’s Day today! Time to say thanks for all the hard work these wonderful individuals do. It’s not an exaggeration to say that honestly, some of the kindest people I know are nurses who I’ve worked with over the years. So to Vicki, Naomi and Karen (having a day off today) I say thank you for having my back and caring as much as you do. Enjoy your goodies!

20.01.2022 Has anyone lost a friend? This little guy was dropped in by a member of the public yesterday. He was examined, and found to be in very good condition, not injured and as you can see, quite tame. It also looks like his left wing might have been clipped. Give us a call if you have any information.

16.01.2022 In response to the current situation with COVID-19 At this stage this clinic is open for business as usual, and we are hopeful that any disruptions will be kept to a minimum. We ask that you respect the 1.5m social-distancing guidelines while attending the clinic, limit the number of people attending the clinic with an animal to one unless absolutely necessary, and use the hand-sanitiser provided as you enter and leave the premises. ... If you feel uncomfortable about sitting in the waiting room for your appointment, feel free to stay in your car with your pet, and call us to let us know you have arrived. We will let you know when we are ready for you to come in for your appointment. If you are unwell, please don’t attend the clinic! If you have an animal that needs to be seen, call us to let us know the situation and we will arrange for you to drop your animal off in a safe and secure spot so that we can conduct a physical examination. We will consult with you by phone or face-time so that we can best work together to ensure a good outcome for you and your pet. For clients with animals requiring regular repeat medication or prescription food, who live in the local area, if you are unable to attend the clinic due to ill-health or self-isolation, we will organise a drop-off of your pet’s medication provided your pet is stable and has been recently examined. Please ring ahead in good time before you run out of any medication or prescription food so that we can ensure that we either have it in stock or are able to order it in from our suppliers. Be assured that we are regularly undertaking extra cleaning and disinfection of all surfaces in high traffic areas above and beyond that already employed in order to limit potential transmission. As the current situation is continually evolving, we will keep you updated with any further information that comes to hand. Look after each other and we will all get through this together

15.01.2022 We know that many of you are feeling a little like Ted right now with the current return of Stage 3 restrictions locally from tomorrow, and we certainly sympathize with you all. Rest assured, we will still be here for you and your pets. Seeking health care for animals is considered an essential service and is permitted during this time. We do ask that if you have something that might be considered non-essential or able to be delayed until the restrictions are lifted that ...you might think about postponing it in order to reduce traffic and therefore contact with staff and other clients attending the clinic. If you're not sure, give us a call and we will be happy to help guide you. We would really appreciate people calling in advance to purchase pet food, routine preventative care such as flea or worm treatments or repeat prescription medication so that we can arrange to have it ready for you to collect and to limit time and contact at the clinic. We prefer contactless electronic payment where possible. We have noticed that a lot of you are already doing this and we thank you for that. When you call to make an appointment, you will be asked some questions to determine how best we can attend to your animal. Please don't be offended by this and please answer honestly. We have protocols in place to limit contact with clients who are unwell or have been in contact with a potential or positive COVID-19 case. The front door will be locked again to ensure we have control of the number of people entering the building. Please knock when you arrive, or preferably call 5581 2000 to let us know you're here and we will come and attend to you as soon as possible. When you are attending the clinic in person, you will be required to leave your contact details in case contact tracing is required. Please use the hand sanitizer at the front desk and maintain the 1.5m social distance recommended. And from the start of this week, NO MASK, NO ENTRY. We also regrettably have to limit the number of people attending the clinic to one person per animal presented. Residents of Metropolitan Melbourne, or clients who have visited Melbourne or had visitors from Melbourne in the last 2 weeks will not be permitted to enter the building. We will not be doing house-calls again until after the restrictions have been lifted, but we will offer a free, non-contact drop-off service for bona-fide clients for medication, food and preventative health care who live within the town limits by request. Stay safe and healthy everyone, look after each other, follow the directives, and hopefully we'll be back to some sort of normal again soon! See more

14.01.2022 Dear Clients, In light of the current situation, we respectfully ask that anyone attending the clinic who has visited, or has had visitors from metropolitan Melbourne or the Mitchell Shire in the previous fortnight, please advise staff by phone and do not enter the building. Please do not be offended if we ask for contact details, in the event that contact tracing is required. If you feel unwell, please call ahead and we will arrange appropriate PPE and distancing measures ar...e implemented so that we can still see your animal if required. We understand that this seems onerous to some people, but we feel that it is important and necessary to ensure the safety of our staff and community. Thank you for your understanding and patience at this difficult time. Nicola, Karen, Vicki and Naomi

13.01.2022 Annnddd... now we have no landline OR internet. We are limping along with the after-hours mobile phone, but please bear with us if we are unable to answer your call (leave a message), or respond to any email. Telstra are on-site fixing the problem apparently. But at this stage there is no eta on having it sorted.

12.01.2022 Hi Everyone! Sorry about the lack of phone service today! It’s another Telstra issue that I’m trying to sort out... in the meantime, if you need to make an appointment please call the afterhours phone on 0429812400. Hopefully will have it sorted sooner rather than later... but you never know with Telstra

11.01.2022 Happy International Dog Day, from Phoebe and all of us at Glenelg Veterinary Services! It’s a pawfect day for a walk... get out there and enjoy the sunshine! Post a pic of your best friend below

11.01.2022 Benji came in to see us for a check up today and was just fascinated with our fish (as were they with him!).

10.01.2022 We have Rory spending some time with us on placement at the moment. He’s just successfully completed 4th year Vet at Adelaide Uni. Here he is monitoring one of our patient’s femoral pulse rate. I think from the smiles that they’re both enjoying themselves!

08.01.2022 So... the thing about this job is that you never know what might walk in the door at any time. This otherwise healthy young male koala managed to get himself into a bit of strife today and was found wandering up the Main Street with his entire back half covered in some sort of vegetable oil... this could have been fatal for him because when the dense undercoat becomes wet/soiled like this, it means that they are not able to regulate their body temperature correctly and, especially in this weather, can become hypothermic. We gave him a general anaesthetic in order to wash all of the oil out of his coat (we had to do it twice!), followed by a vigorous blow-dry. He recovered uneventfully and was last seen up the top of a gumtree, chowing down on gum leaves. How lucky are we to live here and share this place with these beautiful creatures!?!

06.01.2022 The snakes have been out and about in the last few days... even Meow the Clinic Cat has had an unfortunate encounter this weekend. Symptoms of snakebite can vary widely, but envenomated animals consistently display symptoms that include vomiting, drooling, wide dilated pupils (as demonstrated here by Meow), ataxia (wobbly-ness) and blood in the urine. If you suspect that your animal has been bitten, don’t panic. Don’t try to catch the snake - we use a multivalent antivenom so... that identification of the snake is not necessary for treatment. Limit the animals movement during transport, and call ahead so that we are ready to see you as soon as possible. Some animals progress very rapidly after snakebite, and some show a slower onset of symptoms, but survival chances are greatly increased with prompt treatment and administration of antivenom. Luckily for us, Meow is on the improve again already, and should be back to serve you at the front desk soon! See more

02.01.2022 This is Arlo. How gorgeous is he??? He’s currently feeling the pain of being cooped up in self-isolation at the moment. I imagine he feels similar to a lot of people right now! But it’s necessary... don’t be selfish, think of other people and stay home unless it’s essential to go out. We are still open, although our hours have changed and we don’t have the full quota of staff at the moment, so please try to be patient with us. Please call ahead to arrange a time for an appointment if necessary and please be understanding with the current social distancing protocols we have in place. They are necessary to keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible. Stay safe, stay healthy, stay home!!!
