24.01.2022 Out and about around the paddocks this morning checking and fixing some fences. The girls thought it was a most interesting distraction for them

24.01.2022 Glengallan Serenity - affectionately known as Sassy - is a 3 year old Shire filly sired by Viewfield Huon and out of our own Gl. Silhouette (aka Fidget). She’s got plenty of personality, loves people and thrives on attention. Hannah has started her ground-driving education and yesterday had a bit of fun as well as her second long reining session.

23.01.2022 Another one of our favourite shows falls victim to COVID-19

23.01.2022 Glengallan Mascot Our 7th and final foal for the year was another daytime delivery that caught us off-guard. However Minuet handled it all beautifully and Pete & John were there only moments afterwards. Our third Shire foal - all sired by Darkmoor Armani - Mascot is growing well and full of spirit. Happily living with Silver and Shelley he is learning early that females are bossy This is our second purebred Shire colt out of Ingleside Minuet and we hope he will grow into as nice a horse as his big brother, Bentley

22.01.2022 Good morning world! Have a happy day

21.01.2022 Meet Lenny Glengallan Freelance was born just 5 days after losing Cara. Fifi (Gl Free Spirit) gave birth to a strapping big colt sired by Waverley Bailey. He could not help but lift our spirits She chose 8 pm to relieve herself of this bundle of energy which meant an all-nighter for us as this boy took 2 full days to learn how to latch on properly. We would like to thank two lovely young ladies, Charlotte & Ellie, who came for a visit on Saturday, decided to stay the night and took over feeding duties of both foals as well as doing the manure pick-ups, so we could catch up on some much needed sleep. Thankfully, Lenny was drinking from Mum at the 10pm feed but there was still Sherlock on 2-hourly bottles. Lenny, now 10 days old, is as strong as an ox and can't wait until he has some 'brothers' to play with

20.01.2022 Chantilly has won some hearts since moving to her new home and none more so than this young lady. Tilly will lap up every bit of attention lavished on her. It is also heartening to see how calm she is for a freshly started horse Thanks Zia for the photos and for giving her a wonderful home

19.01.2022 Today our young Shire colt, Glengallan Bentley, learnt a very big lesson in life - when living with a mare, the mare is boss. 21 yo Flossie has been around the traps long enough to know how to handle a young whipper-snapper like Bentley, but she is also a kind mare so perfect for the job.

19.01.2022 This morning Bailey (6yo Clydesdale stallion) and Bentley (20 month old Shire colt) wandered over to check out what we were doing in the chook yard. They watched, consulted, decided it was very uninteresting and their round bale was a much better option

18.01.2022 Thank you Scott Jenkins for another amazing job with one of our horses. Looking forward to riding this young lady

18.01.2022 Generally, breeding is a very rewarding experience - bringing new life into the world and watching them grow. However, just occasionally it can go wrong... horribly wrong. Two weeks ago our young Shire mare, Cara (Glengallan Charisma) delivered a beautiful colt foal around 4am... 4 hours later she had a massive prolapse, hemorrhaged and died. The shock and devastation felt as she lay motionless is mind-numbing, but there is no time for grief, there is now a new born foal tota...lly dependent on us and his needs must supersede all else. It is only later once he is settled, a companion mare brought in, a feeding regime set up and the mare is buried that the overwhelming sadness of a special young horse taken far too soon sets in... and the grieving process begins Rest in Peace our beautiful Cara... you are greatly missed (At 2 weeks old, Sherlock is doing very well but his is a story for another day) See more

17.01.2022 Normally we would be getting organised at Gatton right about now with a certain degree of chaos as we got 4 or 5 horses settled into stables, gear sorted and camp site set up ready for a big weekend at the Heavy Horse Field Days. Instead, it will be a quiet weekend at home thanks to Covid-19. We have so many wonderful memories from this event so here's a look back at just some of them Huge thanks to all the people who have helped us over the years and also to those who have taken any of the hundreds of photos we have amassed See you all in 2021

16.01.2022 Introducing Ally Now 2 weeks old, Glengallan Crown Alliance is the first of this year’s foals - and yes, last year’s filly theme has continued. Sired by Waverley Bailey and out of Glengallan Crown Jewel, she’s a happy, healthy bundle of energy

16.01.2022 Today we would have been up in the wee small hours of the morning and gathered up a group of youngsters plus Montana for the CCHS Qld Branch Junior Championships & Gelding Show. Instead, thanks to Covid-19, we got to sleep in It's a shame as it's one of our favourite shows and perfect for youngsters. This is a look back at the Junior Champs & Gelding Shows that we have been to - our first in 2006 - with many of the horses we have taken over the years. Some years, like 2013 ...at Kingaroy, photos are scarce. That year we took 6 horses but I can only find one photo from the whole weekend. Montana features a lot as he has been to more than any of our other horses and has been our most successful horse Thank you to all the photographers over the years - Katy Driver, Teresa McCoombes, Amy White, Ian S-K and anyone else who has sent me pics. They are all greatly appreciated See more

15.01.2022 Two more mares released from maternity duties today with weaning of foals 3 & 4 completed. Glengallan Silhouette (Fidget) and Carbery Estate Chantilly will rejoin the main mare herd in a week or so.

13.01.2022 It is wonderful to see young people introduced to Clydesdales and lovely to see the way these ‘gentle giants’ of the horse world respond. It’s even more gratifying when one of those horses (Ralph) is Glengallan bred. Renee Lord has captured the moment beautifully

13.01.2022 Our beautiful, blue-eyed Penny Lane

13.01.2022 The paddocks are drying out and taking on a winter-landscape look. Each morning the mares (now down to 3) and the 7 foals follow Pete up the hill to be let into their day-paddock. Penny and Ruby are often first through the gate. Once weaning is completed this paddock will get a well-earned and long overdue rest.

11.01.2022 SOLD https://www.gumtree.com.au//h/black-shire-filly/1254298735

10.01.2022 It was nice to spend some time with the mare herd yesterday while we introduced the four fillies. All are looking really healthy and the feed is holding well although this area around the water trough is pretty bare. Next week, weaning the next three foals begins...

07.01.2022 "Glengallan Debutante" We have decided to sell our 2 year old black Shire filly as we wish to keep a number of our current filly foals. Reg # B 20391 She is black with diagonal white socks and her off hind leg has some white hairs mixed in with the black making it a bit lighter in colour. She has had basic handling, been regularly wormed, hoof trimmed and vaccinated for tetanus. 06.01.2022 This came up on my Facebook memories today - photos from the last Working Draught Horse Expo at Jondaryan Woolshed in June 2012. This show was a favourite of many in the heavy horse world and it was a shame that it couldn’t continue. These are the photos that made up that album 8 years ago (Facebook wouldn't let me share it) Thanks to Katy Driver and Nicola Martin for the photos and thanks also to Sharon and Yo for all their help that weekend

04.01.2022 And there goes the third of our favourite shows for the year

04.01.2022 Glengallan Sherlock - his story... Sherlock is 2 months old today. Our first Shire foal sired by Darkmoor Armani, he was just 4 1/2 hours old when he lost his mum, Glengallan Charisma. From that moment he was destined to have a very different start to life - and one which would involve us significantly. We pretty much decided right from the beginning that we would not try to find a foster mare and that we would bottle/bucket raise him ourselves so we became resigned to the fa...ct that for the next 3 or 4 months, his needs would take priority. Apart from feeding him, the first thing we did was to introduce him to his new 'Granny' - Duneske Flash Princess. We yarded Princess next to him for a few days so they could start looking to each other for company. We then let them out together in a small section of paddock. She quickly introduced him to some horse language as his instinct was to nuzzle into her flank, which she would not tolerate, but they soon settled down to a mutual acceptance and Sherlock definitely identifies with Princess and looks to her for his 'safe place'. Meanwhile, we had settled into a routine of almost hourly feeds dropping to 2 hourly through the night. With daytime temps reaching 40+ degrees and hot nights, as well as the flies in plague proportions, we made the conscious decision that we would not swap to a bucket and leave it out for him to help himself, but continue to bottle feed him at frequent, regular intervals. Dehydration was a real concern if he did not get enough fluids. We work from home so this option is available to us and we felt that by doing this, we could also allow him to have a more normal life out in the paddock with his best mates, Lenny & Teddy (born the following week). Princess certainly appreciates the company of Fifi and Gem. Our daily routine consists of 16 feeds - now mostly 2 litres (he started on 1 litre feeds) usually 1 1/2 hours apart but 2 hours through the night. He consumes 30 litres of milk replacer per day - roughly a bag per week. The three mares and foals come into the stable paddock in the evening for their feeds and stay in for the night so it is easy to feed Sherlock. He can access his stable where we leave his feed bin and some hay but he is only starting to really show much interest in hard feed. He prefers to spend the night with Granny and the other mares and foals. After his 5am feed, they are all back into the bigger paddock again which is easily accessed from the house yard which makes feeding him through the day very easy and quick. He's had his ups and downs like most foals and had the colliewobbles for a few days when he was a couple of weeks old but otherwise he is a happy, healthy lad trying hard to make sense of a life which his instincts tell him isn't quite as it should be but it's all he's known. There is so much I could write about him but I'll let the pictures tell the rest. See more

04.01.2022 We moved three of the fillies this afternoon - they will go in with the main mare herd in a couple of days but for now they can be in the lane next to them. Our grasses are changing from summer to autumn/winter but so good to see them up to their bellies and fat as fools.

03.01.2022 Glengallan Silver Celebration (27-11-2020) Our 6th foal (and 4th Clydie) caught us by surprise with a daytime delivery. Silver took herself to the far corner of the paddock and produced this lovely filly around 11am. It was a long, hot walk to shade for young "Shelley" as she is known, but she handled it well and has thrived over the past 3 weeks. She is full of fun and energy - and plenty of bling! Our fourth (and final) foal by Waverley Bailey for the year and the first for 6 year old Glengallan Silver Jewel

02.01.2022 Two more mares (Meg & Floss) set free this afternoon - released from maternity duties. That’s foals 5 & 6 weaned - just Penny to go
