23.01.2022 Glenside Lions remember our diggers and soldiers today. For those who leave never to return. Lest we forget.

23.01.2022 April is Lions Environmental Awareness Month and it is a time to reflect on what we can do for our environment. The earth sustains human life. We’ve seen how our stewardship of natural resources can improve quality of life and increase engagement in our local communities. Our environment is more than a background: it’s our home. And we’re committed to caring for it. This is the gum tree we planted in front of our Bookmart. The photo on the right shows that it has grown considerably and we are very happy about it. #LionsClubsInternational

20.01.2022 Next week is National Book Week in Australia and Glenside Lions Bookmart has a special display. Each year across Australia, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) brings children and books together celebrating CBCA Book Week. During this time education and care settings, schools, libraries, booksellers, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian children’s literature, often with children’s book character parades and talented librarians, educators, and other passionate staff creating amazing displays. At Glenside Lions Bookmart, we have a very good selection of children’s books in our Children’s Section upstairs. Books are suitable for girls and boys, young children and young adults. Please come in and have a look. For more information please visit our Bookmart page. https://www.facebook.com/LionsBookmart #WeServe

19.01.2022 The Shed at Conyngham Street was officially opened by City of Burnside Mayor Anne Monceaux on Friday 30 October 2020. The event was officiated by Burnside City CEO Chris Cowley and it was very well attended by the Shed members, Council officials, local residents and Lions from the Glenside Lions Club. Glenside Lions donated $80,000 to this community project that will benefit local residents in many ways. President Alan Hook presented the cheque of $80,000 to Mayor Anne Moncea...ux. There is the Shed where members meet regularly for woodworking, carpentry and other repair work. The Shed is very well equipped with many essential woodworking and carpentry equipment and power tools. There is a nursery where plants are propagated. There is also a community vegetable garden where residents plant their own vegetables and herbs. This major community project began in our Lions Centennial Year 2017 as our Centennial Project. It has taken this long from early planning stages to eventual opening. Glenside Lions also managed the BBQ for a very popular sausage sizzle. We also had soft drinks and bottled water. It was a very festive occasion. #WeServe #lionsinternational See more

16.01.2022 Glenside Lions have donated $2000 to Australian Lions Hearing Dogs. Our Club donates regularly to this very important Australian Lions project that benefits many Australians. One in six Australians suffer from some form of hearing loss and this number continues to rise. Of these people, approximately 400,000 are dealing daily with the isolating challenges of severe or profound deafness. Training a Hearing Assistance Dog takes approximately 6 months and is split into two part...s; public access and sound training. An Australian Lions Hearing Dog has the same public access rights as a guide dog for the blind. It is essential therefore that they are comfortable and relaxed in a range of outdoor settings. Consequently, trainee Hearing Assistance Dogs are put through an intensive socialisation program where they are trained to accompany their future deaf or hard of hearing owners into shops, restaurants, workplaces and on public transport. #WeServe See more

06.01.2022 Glenside Lions observe Lions World Diabetes Day on 14 November. Diabetes can lead to serious diseases affecting the heart and blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, nerves and teeth. In most high-income countries, diabetes is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease, blindness, kidney failure, and lower limb amputation. It is expected to affect 629 million adults by 2045. Our strategic objective is to reduce the prevalence of diabetes and improve quality of life for those diagnosed.

05.01.2022 To commemorate ANZAC Day the Glenside Lions Club Bookmart has a special display of books at the back of the shop. They will be open normal hours all weekend, including ANZAC Day Monday.

05.01.2022 Glenside Lions have donated $1000 to the Hutt Street Centre. This will go towards providing meals to the homeless. Our Club donates regularly to this charity because Relieving Hunger is one of our main points of focus. Hutt St Centre is a place of hope and opportunity, helping people facing homelessness to rebuild their lives, without judgement. Each year Hutt St Centre serves up to 40,000 meals and offers social work and support services to nearly 2,000 people. Showers, laundry facilities, visiting health professionals, an aged city living program for our older clients, recreation activities, education and training, legal aid and assistance with finding housing are all services provided to up to 200 people experiencing homelessness each day. #WeServe

03.01.2022 Glenside Lions observe World Kindness Day today, 13 November. Now more than ever, kindness matters. That's why 1.4 million Lions in 47,000 Clubs around the world are making a difference. Kindness defines who we are as Lions. And why we serve. An act of kindness may be small and personal, or large and profound. When 1.4 million men and women come together to serve, it represents a dynamic force for good.

02.01.2022 Glenside Lions are very proud of being a part of this excellent community project. The Shed is very well equipped with power tools for cutting, sawing and drilling. And outside are the community vegetable gardens. These are all available to our local residents in the City of Burnside. This community project promotes the wellbeing of our residents. These photos show some of the facilities that are available at the Shed. #WeServe
