24.01.2022 Well that was uneventful! Less than 24hrs after TC Kimi was introduced on the scene, the fun of cyclone track mapping and the mild hysteria and well, nothing. Not even a gust of wind. Yet ALL the media continue to broadcast to their millions of followers that Port Douglas / Cairns is in the firing line. The damage that misreporting about cyclones does to our town is devastating. Like everyone, we’ve suffered a tough year, this summer we won’t get our usual international visit...ors - now, we’ll likely miss out on domestic travellers because of this out of towner just cruising down the coast, hopefully sending rain to those who need it. 05.01.2022 Today we were lucky to co-host Mayor Michael Kerrs’ Christmas Luncheon at which thousands of dollars were raised to provide food hampers to those less fortunate this Christmas With a bunch of amazing locals we enjoyed some fabulous food, great wines, fabulous company ~ then raised an awesome sum of money that continues to grow Salsa is pleased to have supported this event by donating $20 from each ticket sold to our Mayors Charity, totalling $1840 in cash contribution ...to the cause. A special mention also to Loretta from Zammataro Plumbing Pty Ltd for raising close to $3k through her service to Meals on Wheels. Thank you to our Mayor and Councillors for choosing Salsa for your event, we really appreciate your support After what’s been a spectacularly hard year, it’s wonderful to think that those less fortunate will at least enjoy a nutritious gift this festive season. 02.01.2022 Vale John Rumney Today three beautiful girls, their gorgeous mother Linda and their family farewelled said goodbye to one amazing human - their Dad, husband and idol. As a Shire we’re farewelling a reef conservation pioneer, a man who stood for nothing but research, conservation, conversation, education and preservation of our greatest natural wonder. ... As citizens of the world, we’ve lost an avid campaigner / researcher / reef custodian and all round amazing human who continued to fight the fight for our planet and his beloved Great Barrier Reef. John's amazing legacy will live on through his gorgeous family, and their united passion, his latest chapter - the Great Barrier Reef Legacy. We have known this lovely family for decades and send our deepest condolences.
