21.01.2022 It’s important we protect the mental health of those who work so hard to serve and protect everyone in Australia every day. First responders; paramedics, poli...ce officers, fire, rescue and State Emergency Service (SES) workers often face ‘life or death’ situations and highly demanding work. While many overcome the challenges of their role, even the most resilient first responders can be affected by trauma and job stress putting them more at risk of experiencing depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and suicide. Today we launch the ‘Good Practice Framework for Mental Health and Wellbeing in First Responder Organisations’ at a beyondblue conference of Australian ambulance, fire and rescue, police and SES leaders and experts. Developed in collaboration with first responder organisations, the framework provides practical guidance for employers to protect the mental health of first responders and reduce their risk of suicide. For more information on the beyondblue First Responder program promoting the mental health of current and former workers, volunteers and their families or to download the Good Practice Framework visit: bb.org.au/firstrespondersau #FirstRepondersAU

11.01.2022 Thinking of buying a Hoverboard? Schofields D platoon found a hot one last night. This is the forth Hoverboard related fire that FRNSW has attended since January 16. If you have a Hoverboard monitor its charging and search for listings of recalls.

11.01.2022 Did you know firefighters cant carry all the water they will need on the fire truck? At every fire emergency, we need to find a water hydrant and quickly! Yo...u can help. Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters urge all residents and businesses to find the water hydrant on the footpath and street closest to their home or place of work and check its condition. In a fire emergency, knowing the location of and having unobstructed access to a water supply is critical to saving lives and property. Precious minutes can be lost in an emergency if firefighters are hindered by hidden or obstructed hydrants, particularly at night. At numerous incidents throughout NSW, firefighters have been unable to access the nearest hydrant in an emergency due to it being poorly marked, obstructed by parked cars, mud or debris, over-grown vegetation; or, garden beds built over the hydrant. Hidden, poorly maintained or unusable hydrants result in critical time being lost while firefighters clear the hydrant or search for and access another hydrant further from the fire. Dont let this happen in your street. You can become a Hydrant Hero in just three simple steps: 1. Find the closest water hydrant in your street. 2. Clear around the hydrant cover and see if it is clearly marked and accessible. 3. Report if marking or maintenance is required, to your local fire station, council or water authority. You could win a prize in the Hydrant Hero competition if you send us a photo of yourself with your hydrant, or before and after photos showing how your hydrant has been cleared. Photo entries sent to: [email protected] | in February will go into the running to win a prize. Help FRNSW spread the word; post, share or re-share Hydrant Hero messages using #HydrantFRNSW Want to know all about hydrants or need a media kit? Go to: www.fire.nsw.gov.au/hydrants

06.01.2022 Drones are the latest weapon in the fight against fire, chemical spills and natural disasters, providing firefighters with real-time images of areas too dangero...us to access and enabling rapid damage assessments. Two new drones are part of a multi-million-dollar technology rollout to Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW), which also includes two custom-built mobile command centres and the installation of more than 180 mobile data terminals in fire trucks across NSW. FRNSW Commissioner Greg Mullins and Minister for Emergency Services David Elliott attended a demonstration of the new technology at St Ives today (7 March). Minister Elliott said the drones, mobile data terminals and mobile command centres put Fire & Rescue NSW at the cutting edge of emergency management. See more
