24.01.2022 Migration Program Report | 2019 - 2020. . . The total permanent Migration Program outcome for 201920 was 140,366 places. This outcome is within the planning ceiling of 160,000 places set through the Governments budget process. .... Overall Migration Program lodgements dropped by 12.3 per cent from 198,710 in 201819 to 174,170 in 201920. This was predominantly due to reductions in lodgements of 13.3 per cent in the Family stream and in Skilled Independent category of 67.4 per cent. . The Skill stream outcome was 95,843 places, which accounted for 69.5 per cent of the total 201920 Migration Program outcome . The Employer Sponsored category had an outcome of 29,261 places against a planning level of 30,000 places. Employer Sponsored visas comprised 30.5 per cent of the Skill stream outcome in 201920; The Skilled Independent category had an outcome of 12,986 places (13.5 per cent); The Regional category delivered 23,372 places against a planning level of 25,000 (24.4 per cent of Skill outcome). 24.01.2022 Good News for International Students, the Government has released much awaited information, the five key points released by the the Hon Alan Tudge MP Minist...er for Human Services and The Hon Dan Tehan MP Minister for Education are: The Government will recommence granting student visas in all locations lodgedoutside Australia. This means when borders re-open, students will already have visas and be able to make arrangements to travel. International students will be able to lodge a further student visa application free of charge, if they are unable to complete their studies within their original visa validity due to COVID-19. Current student visa holders studying online outside Australia due to COVID-19 will be able to use that study to count towards the Australian study requirement for a post-study work visa. Graduates who held a student visa will be eligible to apply for a post-study work visa outside Australia if they are unable to return due to COVID-19. The Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) identifies 17 occupations which fill critical skills needs that support Australias economic recovery from COVID-19 based on expert advice from the National Skills Commission and consultation with Commonwealth departments. Employer sponsored nomination and visa applications with an occupation on the PMSOL will be given priority processing. All o...ther skilled occupation lists will remain active, but the PMSOL occupations will take priority. The list is temporary and priority occupations may change as Australia recovers from the pandemic. 18.01.2022 UPDATE: Subclass 485 - Flexibility on English Test arrangements Source: Migration Institute of Australia 28/08/2020 Earlier today several MIA members receive...d emails from the Temporary Graduate Visa Section reversing previous advice that had been supplied on English language test requirements. As members are aware, evidence of appropriate English language ability is a Time of Application (ToA) requirement for Sc 485 applications. Previously, the Department had advised that applications could be lodged with evidence that an English language test had been booked or that it was not possible to undertake a test, due to COVID 19 restrictions. Today, the section advised that it was reverting to the ToA requirements. Many Sc 485 applications will have been lodged in the intervening period between the first and today's communication. The MIA has been in contact with the responsible Director amd received the following assurances: the Department is attempting to find a Policy workaround for English being required at ToA and until the Regulations are amended. no applications will be processed until the English language results are attached, effectively meaning English will be assessed at Time of Decision (ToD). this later assessment may not allow for multiple tests to occur For those Sc 485s that were auto-granted without evidence of English testing at ToA, the Department will not revisit those applications. The Department's primary concern at this time is that applicants do not become unlawful. Where members need to lodge Sc 485 applications over the weekend, because the client's current visa is expiring, they should lodge those applications. See more
