20.01.2022 Some visa holders impacted by Australia’s COVID-19 travel restrictions will soon be able to access a refund or a waiver of their Visa Application Charge (VAC). Prospective Marriage visa: If you received a Prospective Marriage visa but you were unable to enter Australia because of COVID-19 travel restrictions before your visa ceased, you may be eligible for a refund of your VAC.... Refunds will help former Prospective Marriage visa holders to apply for another visa to come to Australia, once travel restrictions are lifted. These applications will be given priority, but the actual processing times for applications will depend on whether the application is complete and meets all the requirements for the visa. Prospective Marriage visa validity periods may also be extended in certain circumstances. Temporary workers: If you were part of the Pacific Labour Scheme or Seasonal Worker Programme, were granted a visa before 20 March 2020 and were unable to travel to Australia because of COVID-19 travel restrictions, you may be eligible for a refund of your VAC. If you were granted a Temporary Skill Shortage or Temporary Work (Skilled) visa but you were unable to enter Australia because of COVID-19 travel restrictions before your visa ceased, you may be able to receive a VAC waiver for a future visa application. If you were granted a Temporary Skill Shortage or Temporary Work (Skilled) visa, travelled to Australia and departed but were unable to return to Australia due to COVID-19 travel restrictions before your visa ceased, you may be able to receive a VAC waiver for a future visa application. Working Holiday Makers: If you were granted a Working Holiday Maker visa, you may be able to receive a VAC waiver for a future application or a refund. A VAC waiver will apply for a further application if you were unable to travel to Australia because of travel restrictions or had to depart Australia early due to COVID-19. If you have since passed the age limit for a WHM visa and are not eligible to lodge a further application, you will be able to receive a refund instead. Visitors: A VAC waiver will be available for Visitor (Tourist) visa holders whose visas expired while outside Australia following the implementation of COVID-19 travel restrictions on 20 March 2020.

20.01.2022 From Friday, 16 October 2020, you can travel from New Zealand to Australia, quarantine-free, if: you have been in New Zealand for 14 days or more and not been in a designated hotspot, and you are travelling to Australia on a quarantine-free flight. You do not need to be a New Zealand citizen to travel to Australia quarantine-free if you meet the above criteria, but you will need a valid visa to enter Australia. New Zealand citizens do not need to apply for a visa before comin...g to Australia. If eligible, they will be granted a Special Category visa (subclass 444) (SCV) on arrival. A quarantine-free flight only carries passengers who have declared they have been in New Zealand for 14 days or more and have not been in a COVID hotspot in New Zealand in the last 14 days before travel. Quarantine-free flights will be determined by your airline. You should not travel if you are feeling unwell or have signs or symptoms of COVID-19. Quarantine-free travel from New Zealand will initially be to New South Wales and the Northern Territory only. Other states and territories may be added at a later date. If you intend to onward travel to other states/territories, you should check local requirements prior to travelling. Some states and territories may require travellers from safe zone countries to quarantine on arrival. The safe travel zone does not apply to New Zealand citizens who are outside New Zealand or who have not been in New Zealand for the last 14 days or more. Before travelling to Australia you must print and complete COVID-19 Declaration form and present it at airline check-in at the airport. If you do not present a completed form, you may not be able to board your flight. This form will be used to determine if you can travel and for contact tracing purposes by relevant state and territory governments. If you arrive in either NSW or the Northern Territory on a quarantine-free flight, you will not need to enter mandatory quarantine. If you arrive at any other location or you are not on a quarantine-free flight, you will be subject to mandatory quarantine.

16.01.2022 Skilled & Business Migration would like to advise that following the first annual review, the Australian Government has agreed to significant changes to South Australia’s two Designated Area Migration Agreements (DAMAs). DAMA Occupation List: South Australia has secured a range of new occupations under the DAMAs with a focus on health care, manufacturing, high-tech sectors, agribusiness and food production. View the full DAMA Occupation List here https://www.migration.sa.gov....au/occupa/dama-occupation-list Concessions and PR Pathways: South Australia has secured additional English language and age concessions, which will now carry over to the permanent visa. The changes to work experience requirements for a number of occupations will make it easier for qualified international graduates to be eligible to apply. All DAMA occupations listed will now offer a permanent residency pathway either through the Temporary Skill Shortage visa or the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa. Skills Assessing Authority: The South Australian Government has been approved to act as a skills assessing authority for occupations that require a skills assessment that currently has no alternative skills assessment authority. This will allow previously ineligible occupations to now be available for skilled migration, ensuring workers filling those positions are appropriately skilled. Skilled & Business Migration remains committed to working with South Australian employers to ensure they are able to fill skills shortages in their businesses.

Home quarantine can play a role in the future, he said. Two weeks hotel quarantine is mandatory for overseas arrivals and some domestic travellers entering states and territories with closed borders. The ACT is an exception, with people allowed to spend their stints at home. 12.01.2022 The ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and hard border closures will significantly influence the size and composition of the Migration Program 2020-21, which will be unveiled through the Budget process on October 6. Economists in the country say that the Federal Budget presents a timely opportunity for the government to reboot the economy particularly affected by a dramatic drop in net overseas migration and hard border closures. The Treasury assumes that Australia's in...ternational borders will gradually reopen in the first six months of next year, with international travellers required to quarantine for two weeks upon arrival. While the overall effect of the border reopening would mean people will eventually return and trigger renewed activity in the country's economy, but it isn't expected to be anywhere near the pre-pandemic levels. This means that those industries that rely on migrants to fill local skills gaps will continue to suffer. The government expects net overseas migration to fall to just 35,000 in 2020-21 whereas it needs to be between 160,000 and 220,000 to maintain GDP per capita growth. Painting an even grimmer picture in his budget preview address, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg indicated that the October 6 budget will now predict a negative net overseas migration in the current and the next financial year, further crushing the economy bruised by the coronavirus shutdown. Australia’s future population will be smaller, and older than we previously assumed because of the sharp drop we are seeing in net overseas migration, Mr Frydenberg said on Thursday. See more

06.01.2022 The border between NSW and Victoria will open in three weeks, Gladys Berejiklian has announced, as Victoria records its fifth consecutive day of zero coronavirus cases."Come a minute past midnight on 23 November, there will be free movement between NSW and Victoria," NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said on Wednesday."Very proudly I say NSW will be the only jurisdiction in Australia that will be welcoming residents of all states, of all jurisdictions," she told reporters.Ms Ber...ejiklian also announced QR codes will become mandatory for venues from 23 November, as NSW Health is still identifying non-compliance seven months after the pandemic began. The change was prompted in part by the failing of a southwest Sydney restaurant visited by a positive case to provide NSW Health with staffing and patronage records. Jasmins1 Lebanese restaurant in Liverpool has been directed to close until NSW Health no longer considers it a public health risk.NSW recorded three locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and six in returned travellers in hotel quarantine from more than 17,000 tests in the 24 hours to 8pm on Tuesday. All three were household contacts of known cases who were already isolating. The single local case announced on Tuesday was a staff member at Jasmins1 who worked three shifts while potentially infectious. Those who attended the restaurant for more than one hour in the evening on 26 and 31 October or the morning of 1 November are advised to get tested and isolate for 14 days. Those who attended for less than an hour are casual contacts and should get tested and remain in isolation until a negative result is received.Investigations revealed the restaurant did not have a COVID Safety Plan and did not keep contact details of patrons as required by the Public Health Order, NSW Health said on Tuesday. 03.01.2022 - - A carefully managed Migration Program is an important part of Australia's economic recovery and will create jobs and bring high value investment to help Australia rebound from COVID-19. In 2020-21 the planned ceiling for the Migration Program will remain at 160,000 places. The program will have a strong focus on attracting the best and brightest migrants from around the world, with a tripling of the Global Talent Independent program allocat...ion to 15,000 places and an increase in the Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP) to 13,500 places. The BIIP will also be streamlined and reformed to ensure that investments are targeted at Australian venture capitals and emerging small and medium size businesses to support the economic recovery. The Family stream planning level has been set at 77,300 places, including 72,300 within the Partner category. While overall the government has placed greater emphasis on the family stream, most of these are people already in Australia. Of the new permanent residents coming into the country, we still anticipate that approximately two thirds will be in the skilled stream and one third from the family stream. There will be 13,750 places allocated for the Humanitarian Program. The Government will continue to invest to improve settlement and employment outcomes for humanitarian entrants, including through previously announced reforms to the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP), and developing a reform program for settlement services and the Community Sponsorship Program. The Government will also offer Visa Application Charge (VAC) refunds, waivers or visa extensions to visa holders who have been unable to travel to Australia due to COVID-19. This includes waiving the VAC for Working Holiday Makers and Visitors to boost tourism once the borders re-open. See more

02.01.2022 Queensland is set to reopen to all of regional NSW but Sydneysiders and Victoria will remain on the COVID-19 border blacklist. Deputy Premier Steven Miles said the border will remain closed to people who travel through Victoria and 32 local government areas of Greater Sydney. The current restrictions will be eased from 1am AEST on Tuesday. Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said ongoing mystery COVID-19 outbreaks in the Sydney area was behind her decision to advise that res...idents from the city should continue to be blocked from entering Queensland. "Yesterday they had four new cases and one of those cases they could not link to any other known clusters," she said."(That) means that they have transmission and they don't know where it is coming from." The border between the two states closed in August, with Queensland previously saying it would reopen it on 1 November if NSW had control of virus outbreaks in the community. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has repeatedly said she won't put Queenslanders' lives at risk by reopening it too early. "I have to do what I have to do to keep Queenslanders safe," she said on Thursday while campaigning for re-election on the Gold Coast. The border has become a state election issue, with Labor warning voters the Liberal National Party can't be trusted to make sound decisions to protect the community from the virus. Prime Minister Scott Morrison and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian have also waded into the debate, with both repeatedly urging Queensland to open the border sooner than later. It's a call echoed by business groups, who say the closed border is stifling trade and crippling profits. The border with NSW closed on 8 August, with access only permitted to frontier residents, essential workers, freight drivers and people granted medical or compassionate exemptions. A border bubble taking in much of northern NSW remains in place, with residents from communities as far south as Byron Bay allowed to travel in and out of Queensland. Queensland recorded one new case of the virus in hotel quarantine in the 24 hours to Friday morning.
