25.01.2022 BLUFF KNOLL IS BACK! The Bluff Knoll walk trail will re-open at 8am on Friday 22nd May 2020. The new, more "family-friendly" Bluff Knoll walk trail has been und...er construction for months after bushfires razed about one third of the Stirling Range National Park in December. More than 50 tonnes of materials have been airlifted onto the peak for the works which include reducing step height to make the trail more accessible. It's overdue good news for the businesses around Bluff Knoll, including Stirling Range Retreat, Bluff Knoll Cafe, Mt Trio Bush Camp & Caravan Park and The Lily Stirling Range which have been crippled by the double blow of bushfires and travel restrictions. Help us to help them and use your social media networks to spread the word. The Mt Trio and Mt Toolbrunup trails will reopen on Saturday 23rd May 2020. The Stirling Range Ridge Walk, Ellen Peak, Moingrup Springs and the Toll Peak picnic area remain closed.

20.01.2022 SEVERE FIRE DANGER WARNING DFES has forecasted a Severe Fire Danger Rating for the Great Southern region tomorrow. The area includes Ravensthorpe and Espera...nce due to very hot, dry and windy conditions which may lead to bush or grass fires. DFES advises if you live in or near bush, high fuel loads or a forested area you are at risk and need to take action. Read through your bushfire survival plan. If you do not have one decide what you will do if a fire starts. If you are not prepared to the highest level, leaving bushfire risk areas early in the day is your safest option. Homes that are prepared to the highest level, have been constructed to bushfire protection levels and are actively defended may provide safety. You must be physically and mentally prepared to defend in these conditions. Ravensthorpe is forecasted to reach maximum temperatures of 40C tomorrow and 36C in Esperance. A total fire ban has also been issued for all of Tuesday March 30, ahead of the hot weather. To find out what the Fire Danger Rating means to you visit www.dfes.wa.gov.au or call 9395 9300. - #greatsouthern #ravensthorpe #esperance #firedangerwarninggreatsouthern

15.01.2022 ALBANY CAMPSITES OPEN The City of Albany's nature-based campsites will reopen this afternoon after the State Government gave the green-light to campers thi...s week. The State Government announced yesterday it would open its national parks from midday today but urged campers to stick to social distancing rules. Cosy Corner, Torbay Inlet, East Bay, Bettys Beach, Normans Beach and Cape Riche will be reopened. People with permits issued during the restrictions can continue to stay at the campgrounds for the duration of their permits. Mayor Dennis Wellington said it was positive to be able to re-open, but there would be patrols from rangers and local Police to make sure people were doing the right thing. We know a lot of people will want to get out of the house, into nature and the great outdoors, but we can’t be complacent and need to continue to abide by the regional travel, social distancing and public gathering rules," he said. 12.01.2022 It’s essential you understand our warning system so that you can make life saving decisions, including knowing when we need you to evacuate. Our firefighters a...re still battling a large, rapidly changing and uncontrolled firefront the most helpful thing you can do is have your bushfire plan ready, and act early if you find yourself in the warning areas. The incident area (shown as black stripes on our Emergency WA map) shows where a fire has been active. It is not a real-time reflection of current incident activity and does not indicate that property damage or loss has occurred. For people within the current marked Incident Area it’s too late to leave and leaving now would be deadly. Go to www.emergency.wa.gov.au and follow our official advice in the warning.

Bureau of Meteorology spokesman Neil Bennett said it was "an evolving and dynamic system" that would pack a punch on Sunday as it tracked down the west coast. "We're looking at dangerous swells, severe weather warnings for the winds and possibly some heavy rainfall as well right up and down the west coast," Mr Bennett said. "This sort of system has happened in the past, but it's something that would probably only happen once every two or three years, maybe even once every five to 10."
