21.01.2022 This week is International Compost Awareness Week A week dedicated to raise awareness of the benefits and importance of composting. With 50% of our household waste being food, if it’s composted it:... Improves soil quality Eliminates the need for chemical fertilisers Prevents greenhouse gas emissions Helps soils retain moisture If you don’t already have a compost set up in your garden, you can compost by: 1. Dig 4 holes in a corner of your veggie garden, fill one hole with food scraps and cover with soil until full, fill your next hole and repeat. OR 2. Grab a couple of Go Eco Compost Buckets, the easiest way to compost ALL of your food scraps OR 3. Check if your local council has free compost bins available. OR 3. Check your local Facebook Marketplace for second hand compost bins. How do you compost your food scraps? #compost #composting #icaw

05.01.2022 Here’s what I’ve learnt this International Compost Awareness Week, I hope you’ve learnt something new too: 1. Centipedes eat worms! 2. Large amounts of centipedes in your compost is an indicator that your compost is too wet... 3. When composting dog waste, add a small amount of food scraps to the dog waste, the worms will enjoy the variety of food and will devour the dog waste quicker 4. Soldier fly larvae are way more efficient at waste disposal than worms and when the transform into a soldier fly they don’t eat food and only live for 5-8 days 5. Some earth worms live in the upper layers of the soil down to 60cm, other worms live deeper under ground at around 1-2m and visit the upper soil layers to feed Share something you know about composting below @healthylife.smartchoices #composting #compost #carrots #icaw #worms
