21.01.2022 The TrickFlow 240 RB heads are now torqued down onto the block. I made up the pushrods for them yesterday and the rockers are installed. Utilised a Trend cut to length kit. Making them myself takes a little time and patience but is worth it to get the perfect geometry. I chose the 5/16" .080" heavy wall option as rod clearances past the cylinder head can be an issue with 3/8 pushrods. They are rated to #750 spring pressures so will easily do the job.

21.01.2022 Got busted working on some of my own stuff by a mate... it's slowly coming together.

20.01.2022 I finally got around to making and fitting a driveshaft loop to the work ute. Not that I was particularly worried about the driveshaft failing. I made that myself from 3.25" .100" wall moly seamless tubing using Strange weld on ends to suit the big 1350 uni's. I hate adding unnecessary weight to a vehicle but this seemed potentially necessary as 727 transmissions are known for cracking the extension housings on occasion. It's lightweight and very strong!

19.01.2022 Some block preparation in progress for the Brodix 360.... time consuming but necessary. So much needs detailing.... such as bottoming all the threads so head and main studs seat fully, oil passage intersections contoured and smoothed, oil flow modifications to feed the crank and main bearings effectively at 8500rpm, de-burring casting flash inside and out, making sure the girdle does not misalign the studs, etc, etc.

18.01.2022 Today I investigated the cause of severe 'chattering' in my own Ducati 1098 clutch. It's been getting worse over the last few hundred Km's. Ducati are well known for this, the usual cause is a severely worn clutch basket. This one was no different but to my surprise I found a clutch plate with broken off tabs and all 6 diaphram springs broken. The occasional broken spring is not unusual but the broken clutch plate tabs certainly are a first for me. As I have a huge stock of spares for these bikes it was no problem to grab a nice Italian made 48T EVR basket off the shelf, with a matching set of sintered plates and some brand new 1098RS springs. Looking forward to the next ride now to enjoy it.

17.01.2022 Something a bit out of the ordinary for me. A Bombardier 4 wheeler that "made a loud clunk and lost drive". After an interesting time removing the engine and opening it up I found the 8 rivets holding the clutch hub to the primary gear sheared off. Clearly they have been loose for some time and eventually just gave up under the workload. One of the fragments went through the indicator shaft gear and snapped off one of the teeth. These models have not been built since 2005 but some diligent searching found the parts needed in 3 different countries to get it going again.

16.01.2022 I had an enjoyable job last week fabricating a custom secondary pipe to install a slip on muffler to a Ducati Scrambler. The lady owner felt it needed some real Ducati exhaust tones. The massive canister style OEM muffler weighed in at a porky 6.1kg's and the replacement just a tad over 850 grams. As always I make a determined effort to blend a custom setup into the lines of the bike and this one is no different. Both myself and the owner are extremely pleased with the end result of both looks and sound.

15.01.2022 Been busy with a number of more mundane jobs recently, Stuff like regular servicing, brakes, suspension and steering repairs. Also a few bike jobs now finished. Took a day out today for some 'Me" time. Started replacing the floor in my next Dodge project. About 3 hours with the air chisel and the old one is removed ready to install the new one. While it's out there are some other things to do that will be easier without a floor in the car. I have an industrial 30L shop vacuum and almost filled it twice with old dirt and rust that the chassis was clogged with....

15.01.2022 Bit of action today assembling more of the 308 VN engine. This is an ongoing slow project for a mate with very limited funding, so we do a bit here and there as he can afford to, Need to get manifold and rocker cover gaskets to complete this stage. Bizarre paint option on this one.... using up the leftovers from other paint jobs. Early Holden red at the top, fading to a black sump. Looks pretty cool in real life. Yep, that's a 4500 Dominator! Rocker gear and Valve train from Crow. Flat tappet solid camshaft from Tighe. Heads pocket ported here in the workshop. Intake appears to be a copy of a Harrop and the casting is a bit disappointing,,, the runners are quite small inside. Get what you pay for and we are building what he can afford.

14.01.2022 Some time ago I was involved in a discussion online about external timing belts Vs Internal chain systems. I run an external belt on my 505 Stroker because it came with the package I purchased. Today I replaced the belt, a simple and easy job. A bit over two and a half years of street use on this one, turning a solid roller at .640 lift with spring pressures of #320 seat and #585 over the nose. From what I can find online Jesel recommend annual replacement in competition... use, so for peace of mind I felt mine was due. After about 10000 street miles the belt was only marginally narrower than the replacement and the tension had dropped off ever so slightly. The drive teeth appear perfect with no visible wear or cracks at the drive edges. The new belt was a snug fit and a timing check afterwards revealed a 2 degree difference, no doubt due to the slightly elongated condition of the old one. Overall I am very confident to continue using the belt system for everyday street duty. We live on a dirt road and suffer from extremely dusty conditions at times..... the dust can be seen impregnated in the belt. Obviously these kits are very tolerant of dust and abrasion... even the anodising on the pulleys is still intact. I highly recommend the JESEL product. With the many advantages of the belt drive system I'll definitely be choosing this option for the small block for my next Dodge ute. See more

11.01.2022 I thought a few people might find this an interesting comparison of port size for various small block Mopar heads out there..... I'm working on mine making a porting template for the intake manifold and the big FelPro gasket was not even close to the as cast 1982 BRODIX castings I have. These are way ahead of their time. Seems everyone else is only just catching up now.

05.01.2022 More progress on the Izuzu/Barra conversion. This is the transmission adaptor from the Barra gearbox yoke to the truck driveshaft universal, incorporating a disc style parking brake on the driveshaft. The factory Transmission has a drum parking brake incorporated on the back, however it was not possible to convert that to the auto trans from the Ford. A fair bit of lateral thinking was needed to make this system a success. I just have to shorten the driveshaft to the correct length now. The mounting bracket for the mechanical disc caliper is already made and I'll post pics of the complete assembly when it's finally installed. This has been the most technically involved part of the conversion.

02.01.2022 Friday I also began tacking together the rear half of a system for a Z900 Kawasaki. This bike is intended to be a Tribute to the bike 'Goose' rode in Mad Max. So it's as accurate as I can create to the owners instructions. Still have to make removable baffles as it will see some street use.

01.01.2022 Okeydokey.... just keep cutting until you reach solid metal... the air chisel is my friend! The Pacer rail became much worse as I went but is now all solid again. With the engine still in the vehicle and the weight supported on stands I did not want the chassis to sag. So I replaced the outside and lower half of the rail first, then cut and replaced the inner after the outer and lower was fully welded in. Bolt the steering back in tomorrow.

01.01.2022 I have a nice 2 door Pacer here for some chassis rail work. Got most of the stuff in the way removed today and started stripping away the less than professional looking patches that have been randomly applied. The aim is to bring it back to a neat, factory looking appearance.

01.01.2022 I had the task of sorting out some problems with this sweet 860 Le Mans 'Guzzi this morning. The owner rode it in yesterday and things sounded really bad. I was initially very concerned about the integrity of the engine itself, however it turned out to be a throttle cable dislodged because the throttle unit was not assembled correctly. A twin cylinder engine does not run or sound good at all when only one carburetor is opening. Once I solved this, a full service of engine, trans and differential was performed with the addition of a deep sump, accurate carb synchronisation and tune. My short test ride on this machine was a real pleasure.

01.01.2022 FINALLY !! My BRODIX ASCS Spec heads have arrived for my next small block build. This pair were cast in 1982 and 'as cast' the ports are bigger than a modern set of Trick Flow 240CNC Big Block heads I have here on another engine. Certainly ground breaking design for that long ago. Un-ported flow numbers are impressive to say the least! 2.08 intakes with 1.6 exhausts will work well in the .030" over bore. They are configured to accept stock intake manifold styles so the Indy 2x4 Mod Man setup I have should compliment the heads nicely.
