21.01.2022 Continuing with our Posts on GCPS Members and their photography story and reason for joining GCPS, here is a short but very relevant story from a very new Member, Janice Price. ***** I am a fairly new member to the club. I got my first DSLR camera about 5 years ago and to be honest I had not used it very often, and when I did the only genre I had tried was scapes which I enjoyed but never strayed out of my comfort zone. At the end of 2018 I came along as a visitor to a coupl...e of meetings and really enjoyed it so joined properly ready to take part in competitions from 2019. I submitted some of my images for grading and was placed in B (Beginner) grade. I started entering club competitions and during the year managed to move to AB grade. I have tried so many different genres such as portrait, architecture, food and street photography. I definitely have had to push myself out of my comfort zone and the result of that is my images are improving. My personal challenge this year has been to try bird photography. I still have heaps to learn but the club has members from of all standards and there are plenty of people who are generous with their knowledge and advice. https://www.instagram.com/janicelynneprice

21.01.2022 There is no club meeting this week. Our next meeting is Thursday 14th November which is a competition night with Scapes as the set subject. 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

17.01.2022 There are many reasons why joining a Club can be of value. The sharing of knowledge and experiences is one of these benefits. The attached pdf on Lightroom and Smart Collections was written by our current Club President and shared with Club Members. We thought it might be of interest to others. Of course there are many ways you can use Lightroom Smart Collections, this is just one approach . Don't forget our first Club night for 2020 is on Thursday 16th January. Hopefully we will see you there https://www.dropbox.com//Lightroom%20Tips%20No%201_Greg%20

17.01.2022 Tonight is our AGM. 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Hope to see you all there.

16.01.2022 Judging by Mr Tim Newbery

13.01.2022 Super happy to launch fotoAID. I have been working with Darren Jew and Irena Prikryl to develop fotoAID as a direct response to the tragedy of the Australian bu...shfire season of 2019-20. The objective was to create a series of events that would bring together the Queensland photography community in support of bushfire recovery, and to encourage conversation around the importance of Visual Journalism and photo story-telling. Check out www.fotoaid.com.au for details of the exhibition, print swap and conference. More details on the event to be released soon. https://www.facebook.com/fotoAID/ https://www.instagram.com/fotoaid/ See more

12.01.2022 It's a special night on Thursday 17th October. As well as the results from the judging from our inter-club competition with a camera club in Scotland we will be showing Part 1 of the 6th Queensland International Digital Circuit - 2019 As our club is one of the sponsoring clubs providing this international competition we also provide a night(s) to view the entries. There is no judging for this, just a slide show exhibiting the many competitors from across the world. It should be quite interesting to see the caliber of images in an international competition. All welcome 7pm for a 7.30pm start

10.01.2022 Thinking about joining our Club: meet one of our members, Marisa and read her story. I joined the GCPS back in 2013. I had been very undecided whether to join or not as I thought it would be just professional photographers attending. I decided to bite the bullet and just enquire, then decided to just turn up. It was pretty overwhelming at first, it was a competition night and when I saw the standard of images being shown I almost decided to walk away. I would never get t...o that standard. But I stayed . and I attended every week, I met many nice people and some not so nice but hey that’s life in general so I just accepted that. It was great to be able to talk about photography and not have anyone roll their eyes or yawn. Everyone was keen on talking about photography I was in heaven. I started in B grade and soon graduated to AB grade, I was happy there results were good and not too much pressure, I think I would’ve been happy there forever, but as one improves and the honours are more forthcoming then the inevitable happens .. A Grade. Why is it that once in that grade you become so self-critical, so judgmental about every one of your images . nothing ever seems good enough. It is then that I started to deviate from the traditional genre of photography to a more whimsical genre . I loved creating children's portraits that were a little bit different to the straight forward ones .. from there my work has evolved to creative art and conceptual art genres with a strong emphasis on surrealistic themes. My art is a combination of style, dreams and moods and it is strongly influenced by and encompassing of social events that impact on people. This means that I don’t create art just for people to simply look at and smile or frown upon the image created, I want people to look at my work and think and feel something whether that be a good, positive or even a negative feeling. This is where I now feel most comfortable and where I feel that my true self shines through. So, while my camera is the base ingredient, I use a variety of post-production techniques that bring emotion and life to the image I create. If you feel inspired or challenged by my work, then I have achieved what I have set out to achieve. 09.01.2022 This week at GCPS we have the judging results of the set subject "Storytelling". This is a new concept (for us) where we were invited to add a narrative to go with our image to help explain the story behind the photo. It should be most interesting to see how they will be presented. Thursday Night (10th October) 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Supper provided afterwards, all welcome.

08.01.2022 Recently we met Marisa, a Club Member since 2013 and her love of photography. In this Post we get to meet Ross Spencer and his photography story. ******** One year ago I thought about joining a photographic club. I made a few enquiries as I was looking for a club that welcomed creative as well as traditional photographic work and it seemed that GCPS was such a club. It was also conveniently located as I live at Burleigh. Why did I consider joining a club? All my workin...Continue reading
