24.01.2022 PLEASE KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR THESE FISHING RODS Just before Christmas, our shed got broken into and a heap of stuff was stolen... Unfortunately it wasnt insured. ...I tried, but no insurance company would because the shed was on a vacant block... They took thousands of dollars of our things including a welding machine, a generator, and trailblaza and ALL of our fishing rods and reels. Police havent had any luck. The only things that have a special mark and that are easily identifiable are my 2 x Wilson fishing rods that I won at the Gold Coast Flathead Classic. (See pics). So there are only a few of these in existance... PLEASE keep an eye out and let the me (or the police) know if you see one of these rods. I am not looking for sympathy as we are lucky and dont "need" these things. But it would be great to get some of our rods back if possible. Particularly these because they are like trophies. 23.01.2022 *Thursday night briefing wrap up* Last night we had our first Live video for the Ultimate Flatty Dash. If you missed it the entire video is right here on the Go...ld Coast Sportfishing Club Facebook page. Some of the key takeaways from the rules briefing were as follows, - All Flathead no matter the length are eligible for their length in points i.e. a 29cm Flathead is to be submitted as 29 - All Flathead must be submitted by 4:15pm on the Saturday and 1:15pm on the Sunday. - You can submit up to 10 Flathead at a time. - Make sure to photograph all of your Flathead clearly with the token (token will be emailed and shared here tonight) - Fishing starts at 6:30am and ends at 4:00pm on Saturday - Fishing starts at 6:30am and ends at 1:00pm on the Sunday If you have any questions please comment below Our thanks to the GCSFC President Bruce Andersen for his introduction and opening of the tournament. And to the GCSFC Gamesmaster Craig Templar for his rundown of the rules and the event briefing. Here is a full rundown of the Ultimate Flatty Dash by Craig Templar, Gamesmaster for the Gold Coast Sportfishing Club. ...... Tom Ryan, Neal Caruana and Guy McConnell (Team Reel Easy) have taken out the Gold Coast Sportfishing Club Ultimate Flatty Dash held over the weekend. The boys amassed a total length of 1105cm for their combined score of their best 10 Flathead each day. Sitting in 8th place after day 1 with 535cm, the boys' consistency paid off compiling 570cm on day 2 to secure the win as some of the other leading teams struggled to catch a limit. Josh Johnston landed a cracking 92cm fish to secure the events Biggest Flathead title, whilst Pete MacGregor’s 89cm Flatty was the best for a Club Member. Melinda Henderson enhanced her reputation as a big fish specialist with a 73cm fish to win the Ladies Biggest Flathead. It was great to see lots of juniors fishing the event and Drayzen Allen backed up his Classic win from last year by catching a 66cm fish to win the Junior Male biggest Flathead. Jaimee Horner, in her last year as a junior, added another win to her resume with a 68cm specimen being the largest caught by a Female Junior in the competition. The Random Draw prize on Sunday night had the 15 lucky people involved on the edge of their seats right down to the end when Larissa Thompson (Team RnR) was elated to learn she’d won the major prize of an 8 night holiday to Papatura Island resort in the Solomon Islands. The prize valued at a cool $10,000 also included airfares (thanks to Solomon Airlines), accommodation, guided fishing time, meals and approx. $2500 worth of Rapala fishing gear specifically selected for this trip. Larissa was surrounded by around 30 other anglers fishing the comp watching the draw live on the clubs Facebook page and was left speechless when she realised she’d won the major prize. Lowrance are great supporters of the Club and provided Lowrance units as prizes for the event and we couldn’t think of a more worthy winner of a Lowrance HDS Live 12 than Vlado Ristevski who was drawn from all anglers who hadn't been in the Major Draw final 15. A code word was issued and a number dialled with the prospective winner to say the codeword first up to win the prize. Vlado never missed a beat and was super excited after telling us he was unable to actually fish the event after his motor blew up at the eleventh hour. Thanks to everyone who fished the event. The committee was absolutely devastated in April when we made the decision to cancel the Flathead Classic and were unsure how this event would unfold. But as usual the punters came to the party and of course our amazing sponsors were extremely willing to back the hard working committee to put on an awesome event.
