The following year Nelson move...d up the Gold Coast in pursuit of warmer weather and begun working at Gold Coast Foot Centres at the beginning of 2015. Nelson has special interests in the prevention and treatment of injuries, paediatrics and athletic footwear and its affect on injury and mechanics. Nelson has worked in a range of settings including private practice, public and community settings. This has exposed him to a diverse patient base in the areas of assessment and rehabilitation of sporting injuries, diabetes, nail surgeries, footwear recommendation and general foot care. Nelson worked in a Melbourne based speciality running shoe store, Active Feet, for a number of years, where he gained invaluable knowledge of athletic footwear and how this can affect biomechanics and injury. Outside of work Nelson enjoys playing Australia Rules football for the Broadbeach Cats, running, social basketball, hiking, food and playing guitar.

19.01.2022 Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) for treatment of Plantar Fasciitis Are you experiencing heel pain that hasnt responded well to conservative treatment? ESWT might be the answer for you. ESWT is a highly effective treatment modality used to treat a range of lower limb musculoskeletal injuries. It is cost effective, non-invasive and relatively pain free. FUN FACT: Initially, ESWT was used to treat kidney stones, although practitioners also released that it was aiding in... soft tissue repair. ESWT works by reactivating the local tissue repair response which stimulates certain components within our body, allowing us to heal. The proposed benefits include: - Increase in vascular supply to the tissue - formation of new blood vessels - Improved tissue healing through reduced inflammation and production of fibroblasts (responsible for repairing tendons) - Immediately reduces pain through stimulation of the nerve pathways. ESWT is non-invasive, relatively pain free, requires no anaesthesia and has no side effects. Patients will generally require between 4-6 visits, spaced around 1 week apart and depending upon the severity may be able to continue with normal levels of activity. No referral is required. Patients will also generally receive some home-work in the form on strengthening and stretching which will improve the effectiveness of treatment. One of the reasons we prescribe ESWT as a treatment option for heel pain is the influx of good quality studies supporting its use over the last few years.
