18.01.2022 ***Sensory Tip of the Week!*** 1. A hug provides the perfect quick dose of deep pressure touch to help calm, soothe, and support self-regulation. 2. A hug also ...provides proprioceptive input which is organizing and regulating for the nervous system. 3. A hug triggers the body to naturally release the hormone oxytocin...which decreases the level of stress hormones in the bloodstream...which in turn decreases the episodes or chances of fight or flight. 4. A hug supports a parasympathetic nervous system response, which is where our nervous systems need to be for ready state and to function throughout the day. 5. A hug is a great time to encourage deep breathing, which is also an excellent technique to decrease sensory dysregulation and/or a fight or flight response. ~Angie Voss, OTR (A little personal touch and photo credit: This incredible picture was taken of my beautiful cousin at homecoming hugging her best friend, capturing a very emotional moment for both of them. My precious Uncle, her Grandpa, had recently passed away. She felt him there with her in spirit.) See more

09.01.2022 So important for us to stimulate our children's imaginations so they can think creatively enough to solve problems when they arise. Beware the difference between imaginative play and simply imitating something they've seen somewhere else.
