23.01.2022 Canberra Study Tour The Australian War Memorial is a very sombre and reflective part of our Canberra experience. We participated in a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier. John, a war veteran, was part of the ceremony and then shared with us some stories about his years serving for Australia, both here and overseas. Most of the exhibits are real artefacts from Australia's military history. We also placed poppies on the Walls of Remembrance... in memory of service men and women who have lost their life in military conflict. This tour was a truly memorable experience and an important reminder of those who have fought for our country's freedom.

23.01.2022 P&C AGM The P&C AGM will be held tomorrow at 9.45am in the conference room. All are welcome to attend. P&C membership for the year is $1.

22.01.2022 Canberra Study Tour Today we visited the Australian Institute of Sport. We toured the various training venues and saw athletes from the women's basketball and water polo teams, as well as two javelin throwers doing a weights session. We then spent time at 'Sportex' an interactive exhibit that allowed us to try a variety of the sports at the Institute. It was so much fun!! We then visited the National Art Gallery and saw some amazing paintings, sculptures and other artwork...s. One of our favourite pieces was the 'Melting Man' he is a lifesize sculpture of wax that is slowly burning down over time. The artwork has been burning for a month and is expected to go for another 4 or 5 months! Lunch was at the National Arboretum, which is like a tree library, with hundreds of tree species from around the world. The views of Canberra from here are spectacular. Our final tour was of the National Museum. Here we learned about our Indigenous history, as well as our more recent history. Our guides shared many interesting stories from our ancient and recent past. We can't believe tomorrow is our last day! We still have a lot to see and do so keep checking in P.s. more photos to come of Arboretum and Museum

15.01.2022 Canberra Study Tour Our visit to the National Constitution Centre was really informative. We learned about how Canberra was designed and built according to a very specific plan. The model of Canberra is incredibly detailed and allowed us to see the layout of the city and has orientated us for our visits to the buildings and attractions this week.

10.01.2022 Canberra Study Tour After a really enjoyable bike ride along the shore of Lake Burley-Griffen we visited the Electoral Education Office. Here we learned how Australia's preferential voting system works. We held a mock election with four fruits as the 'candidates'. In a very close election the banana won narrowly over the apple! Back to our accomodation now for dinner, followed by a night visit to Telstra Tower for some magnificent views of Canberra.

08.01.2022 Canberra Study Tour This afternoon we visited the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House. We participated in a role play that recounted some key moments in our Parliamentary history. Next was Government House, the home of the Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove. Unfortunately he was not in residence today, so we had to settle for a video message from His Excellency. His lovely staff showed us through the ground floor rooms and we also got to see the Rolls Roy...ce in the garage! After dinner we went to the National Dinosaur Museum. We saw lots of life-like models, real fossils and our guide shared some amazing information about just about every dinosaur ever discovered! Now heading back to camp for showers and a well earned sleep, ready for another action-packed day tomorrow! Good night everyone

08.01.2022 Canberra Study Tour Our next tour was of Parliament House. We visited the House of Representatives and the Senate. There are more than 4500 rooms in this massive and amazing building! We also completed a role play where we debated and voted on a Bill in the House of Representatives. Our 'Parliamentarians' did an incredible job and learned so much about this important process of government. Next stop is for a well deserved lunch break.

07.01.2022 Canberra Study Tour Our final day began with a tour of the National Mint, where all of Australia's coins are made. We also learned about the history of currency in Australia. Next was the High Court of Australia. This is the highest court in the country, where cases that have been appealed in the District and Supreme Courts are re-heard by the most senior judges in Australia. ... Lastly we visited Questacon. This building has six levels of themed rooms. They explore many different elements of science and technology. It was so much fun and we spent some extra time here! We will be heading to the airport soon to begin our journey home to Perth. We can't wait to see you all again and share our amazing experiences from our time in Canberra.
