(I have done this multiple times, just so we’re clear ) Or if you’re a client, have you ever been blonde, wanted to go dark, and ended up with very flat, blah looking color? Just like going lighter, going darker can sometimes be complex. When you lighten hair, you essen...tially burn up all the natural pigment in the hair. When you want to go back to dark, you can’t just throw on any ol’ dark brown. Those pigments that got eliminated when you bleached need to be added back in to create a balanced and rich looking brunette. This process is called filling or re-pigmenting. And then sometimes you go through all that work and it just fades out after like, 2 washes Blonde hair is typically porous. It’s often not the greatest at holding onto color, or even accepting it evenly I always like to prep clients about the fact that we may have to do the dark more than once before it really stays looking rich for an extended period of time. Our hair is made up of proteins formed by long chains of amino acids, they are linked together by different types of interactions. ... Keratin is the main protein present in the hair. It is rich in sulfur, which allows a large amount of interactions, called disulfide bridges , they are responsible for your hair shape . This shape is genetically determined and each type of hair distributes keratin within the cortex of the hair differently. To change this shape, it is necessary to modify the keratin distribution by breaking the disulfide bonds, but they are not easy to break. To modify the shape of the strands it is necessary to open the cuticle, apply a product to break down the sulfur bridges and then restructure the hair in another shape In the past, the only permanent hair straightening system available on the market was ALKALINE called a chemical relaxer.
