25.01.2022 SPIRITUAL PROGRESS Don’t ever let anyone make you feel bad about yourself. It’s an old trick of a certain kind of spiritual leader. You go to them because you ...have problems. You trust them because of their reputation, their title, their clothing, their glittering temple, their crowd of adoring followers. They might even reinforce their message with a reading of some oracle, whether it’s a god or the I Ching, or the fortune-telling sticks at the altar. And then, they say you must work with them. At best, it’s a prelude to exhorting you to enter a true spiritual path. At worst, they string you along, abuse you, feed off your devotion, and take your money. Spiritual progress is rightly compared to a journey. Everyone has to take it. Why? Because we begin when we’re younger, and, ideally, our spiritual progress melds with the journey of our lifewhich means aging. That’s the path everyone takes. We hope that we’ll understand more next year. But does it stand to reason that we should feel bad about who we are this year? Logically, if you’re to achieve greater spiritual insight, it’s going to be built on who you are now. If you are told that you’re wrong or even evil, what kind of confidence will you have? Now, if you have faults, you already know that, don’t you? If you have health problems, you know that too. If you have spiritual goals, you have identified them. What you need is for someone to understand you, give you the tools you need, and point out the direction that will benefit you. That’s all. You don’t need someone to make you feel ashamed. There’s a saying that it doesn’t matter what donkey you ride as long as you reach the summit. Well, we are the donkey. How we are is how we’re going to ride. Let’s not feel bad about being donkeys becausesurprisewe all are donkeys. What matters is climbing to the top. That’s hard enough without being pulled back by those who would put us downand who aren’t even facing the spiritual mountain.

21.01.2022 Taoists hold the position that the earth is a living entity with a consciousness of its own. Just as you have a consciousness, so does the earth. And just as wh...at is most active in your body changes from day to day, the earth also changes. You have the choice to link with any living being. But what is meant by linking? When you go internally, it’s your consciousness that feels inside your body. The way in which anyone can clearly feel inside their brains or bone marrow, for example, is through their consciousness

21.01.2022 Stillness and silence lead to a deeper Presence. "Gradually, as we progress in Centering Prayeror in any meditation practice, for that matterwe begin to reor...ient. Centering Prayer’s instructions to let go of all thoughts, regardless of content, directs us back to the silence itself, and we gradually learn the shape of the new terrain. As we stop grabbing for content, we gradually discover that silence does indeed have depth, presence, shape, even sound." ~Richard Rohr See more

15.01.2022 Zhan Zhuang is a standing meditation where you stand still like a tree. The initial goal is to relax and sink all the tension from your body beneath to your f...eet. This standing method cultivates the body's natural energy called Qi. It's a simple practice with extraordinary spiritual, mental and physical benefits. It’s not a test of endurance, but patience. Can one stand for an hour without even a slight flinch? This exercise is also called motion in stillness.. as the rhythm in deep, relax breathing is the utmost importance, the blood flows with ease as one practices in a mode called Sung or completely relax in emptiness together with each internal organs’ involuntary functions. These collective process is the internal motion in an external stillness. This practice is equated or compared to a Standing Tree. The tree doesn’t move where it’s rooted, but many processes happen within and without, like photosynthesis with the Sun, harnessing soil nutrient by its root, and the flourishing bloom and fruits, the sprouting of new leaves/ buds, and the hospitable homing for birds and bugs alike. Stand like a tree but be relax and be soft like water. Take the challenge for 5 minutes first!! Namaste! See more

12.01.2022 Taiji Meditation 46 Wouldn’t it wonderful if you were praised for being beautiful? If people flocked to you until the glow of your presence was surrounded by ad...oring shadows? Wouldn’t it be great if after all these years of practice, your Taiji was lauded as equal to the great masters themselves? After all, you are continually promised that if you would just keep practicing and working on every detail, you’ll be graceful, ethereal, spiritual. No less an authority than Yang Chengfu said: A learner can improve his skill if he keeps on practicing; someday he will become an expert. Instead, you are plain. You look in the mirror and cringe. Your legs shake when you rise up to kick. Your knees and back hurt. You’re so tired from the day that you yawn during the set. The young student who’s been learning only a few years becomes the teacher’s favorite, goes to the tournament and wins the top trophy, while you are left holding the door open for the new hero to stride into the sunlight. Tell me: is that why you’ve been practicing? So you could be someone you aren’t? Oh, yes, I agree with you. I, too, am sick of celebrities who are impossibly beautiful, rich, healthy, and successful, breathlessly whispering, Just believe in yourself and all things will come to you. I, too, am sick of fairy tales where the ugly person is chosen by the beautiful and compassionate royal lover. It doesn’t happen. I’ve turned away from such promises, and so should you. Why? Because all things have already come. Yes, they have. You have the ideal to practice Taiji. That is already the treasure. You have the discipline to practice each day. That is already beautiful. You know how to channel your energy, you have insight into your life. You move with a lithe ease that people decades younger no longer possess. You breathe, you wake, you have joy. Maybe it’s private. All the better: no one will take it away from you. Shall I talk about Laozi’s uncarved block? Confucius’s lectures on what constitutes the virtues of a superior person? The masters have already talked themselves sick trying to point the way. You can silence all the sages and beat the handsome hero right now if you simply keep the most powerful gift of Taiji: humility.

10.01.2022 Be still. It takes no effort to be still; it is utterly simple. When your mind is still, you have no name, no past, no relationships, no country, no spiritual attainment, no lack of spiritual attainment. There is just the presence of beingness with itself. ~ Gangaji ~

09.01.2022 The progress is something you need to see to believe. In December 2014, my mother Pamela due to heart issues was fitted with a Pacemaker. This in itself was a huge adjustment, only to be followed with the loss of her loving husband, my Dad in March 2015. In September of 2015, Mum was diagnosed with the early onset of Parkinson’s Disease and as she had insisted on living on her own for the past 6 months it was agreed, the time had come for Mum to come and live with myself a...nd my husband. After a few days, I realised how weak and fragile Mum had become. No energy, needing to lay down for most of the day, eating very little and becoming more reclusive. Just to have a conversation with Mum was difficult with the jaw of her mouth shaking constantly, showing strong signs of Parkinson’s Disease at this stage. During the next 3 months, with various doctors’ visits and medication changes, it was recommended to assist with Pamela’s progress to source Tai Chi Lessons in our area. From my first initial phone call with Julie, I felt at ease to embark on this new pathway. Pamela commenced Tai Chi classes in January 2016. As a frail and unstable on her feet, 76year aged lady, Pamela attended her first lesson. As the oldest in the room and worried she may fall, Pamela began the first 4 weeks of her Tai Chi classes sitting in a chair and attempting all the movements in a much uncoordinated manner. But to her credit and practice at home Pamela continued to persevere. One of the noticeable changes within 3 months was Pamela’s walking. Pamela always shuffled her feet, taking tiny steps, I believe to save herself from falling. However, with the guidance of Julie, Pamela learnt to concentrate on what her feet where doing. Julie taught Pamela to keep her feet wider apart, to assist with her balance. This was a milestone for Pamela. This boosted her confidence in such a way, I was now able to take Pamela out shopping for short periods of time. Something Pamela had not attempted in a long time. As each week passed her control of her shakiness improved. Of course, there are still but days here and there, but by learning the art of Tai Chi, I believe Pamela has become stronger in her arms and hands and legs, giving her the ability and confidence she now has today. As for the shaking jaw back in September 2015, this is something I have not seen since 3 months after beginning Tai Chi. The progress is something you need to see to believe. From a frail, exhausted lady back in December 2015, to someone who is up and about at 7.30am each morning, doing the daily chores, pegging out the laundry, being able to maintain her diary with small amounts of writing, to going out on luncheons with her friends and to the most achievable conquest, being able to babysit her 6 year old Great Grandson. Thank you Julie, Tai Chi has given back to me the active mother I missed during 2014 and 2015. Amanda

03.01.2022 Taiji Meditation 54 I watched a middle-aged man begin Taiji lessons. He stuck through the whole class. By the end, he was bent over, his shirt drenched. I saw h...im glance at himself in the mirror, searching his face and graying hair, catching his own look of doubt and humiliation. Maybe he had been a great athlete once. In fact, I saw a former protégé of Preying Mantis unable to negotiate the subtlety of Taiji. I saw one former professional ballet dancer give up after a month because he couldn't take the clash between his former glory and the little that he could now master. But the middle-aged man came back. For class after class, every move confused him. Learning even half a movement was hard. Watching him do it all badly struggling with his pride and confidencewas worth more than watching a great master strike down ten opponents without touching them. This man was grappling with the only opponent that matters. That’s all it takes to be good at Taiji. Because whether you can do the moves or not isn’t really the point. What matters is that you try every day. That simple act of keeping at itnot the stadium performance in a silk outfitis the true essence of Taiji.
