25.01.2022 Loss of posture is any significant change from your bodys set up position during the swing. It is a breakdown of posture and can affect many aspects including timing, balance, speed and rhythm. This again can be due to technical issues or physical issues. Because it is such a global problem there are a few physical restrictions which can cause this. These include generalised stiffness and asymmetry of the lower body, inability to separate upper and lower body (shoulders and ...hips), and lack of core strength . . OSTEO: As osteopathy has a holistic approach a full body screen and assessment is performed to identify any postural or mechanical restriction. Identifying these along any element of the biomechanical chain can impact our movement patterns. This is directly related to golf as the swing is a global movement; and restriction in any joint along the chain can impact our movement. . . GOLF: loss of posture can cause many swing faults which is not helpful during a round. Practice, warming up, performing at home exercises whilst away from golf can improve the way our body moves which can directly impact how we swing. See more

25.01.2022 Reverse Spine angle is when there is an excessive upper body backward bend during the backswing This swing characteristics is one of the most common causes of low back pain Physical characteristics which can cause this characteristic are inability to rotate the upper body around a stable pelvis, trail hip internal rotation and weakness through the core and glutes . . OSTEO: assessment and treatment is based around improving your range of motion and quality of motion. ...Identifying the reasons for your restrictions is vital to improve mobility and strength to enable you to play efficiently with less risk of injury. . . GOLF: The upper body tends to dominate in this swing characteristic due to the lower body not being able to initiate the downswing. This can cause path problems and limited power output. See more

23.01.2022 The slide is any excessive lower body movement towards the target during your downswing . . This can result in a loss of power to our swing. Physical characteristics which can cause this are the lack of ability to rotate around the lead hip, inability to separate upper and lower body, and lack of glute strength. Here are some strength exercises which can help improve glute strength: .... . - bridges: encourages core and glute strength to help stabilise lower back, pelvis and hips . . - clams: strengthening the gluteal muscles to encourage a stable lower body during the golf swing . . - straight leg side extensions: strengthening glute med which is an important muscle to stabilise lateral movement and a must exercise for someone who is sliding See more

20.01.2022 Loss of posture is any significant change from your bodys set up position during the swing. Physical restrictions which can cause this issue is generalised stiffness and asymmetry of the lower body, inability to separate upper and lower body (shoulders and hips), and lack of core strength . . Here are some strengthening exercises which can improve these areas: .... . Deep squat research has shown that any limitation in performing a full deep squat can force a player to lose their pelvic posture during the downswing. Encouraging this movement will directly improve strength and asymmetry in the lower limb. See your osteo for technique and alteration advice . . Pallof press with rotation A great anti-rotation exercise which will improve core strength and train the movement needed in our swing . . Bridges core and lower limb stability and strength. 20.01.2022 How to improve you golf game whilst sitting at the desk! . . For those of us who are the weekend warrior, working full time during the week sitting at the desk, may hit a few balls at the range during the week but then on a Saturday heading out with minimal warm up to play a round. Sound familiar? .... . Immobilisation of the sedentary lifestyle results in stiffness of our joints and tightness of our muscles because they are not required to go through there full range of motion. However, on a Saturday with golf being such a demanding sport we require our complete range and strength in every swing. Which as you can understand is most likely not optimal if we have not been exercising this range throughout the week . . How can I change this Ensuring correct ergonomics whilst at the workplace (view next slide for some key tips or book a telehealth desk ergonomic appointment); this places our body in a more optimal state, aiding to decrease pressure placed on our joints and muscles, decreasing the risk of stiffness and tightness in our body whilst at work Other key modalities which can help are: take regular brakes every 30-45 minutes, mobility and strength exercises before and after work and practice at the range during the week. . . Rotation is the key movement lost whilst sitting at the desk as it is not required; however required heavily in golf. 14.01.2022 The glutes stabilise our pelvis and provide power through our swing resulting in control and distance to our shots . . They enable us to rotate around a stable body and push into the ground giving us explosive power. Weakness of the glutes can result in inconsistent shots and loss of power to our swing .... . Here is an exercise which every golfer should be performing. Is directly improves hip extension and a stable core which will in turn provide us with stability and power to our swing See more

12.01.2022 The slide is any excessive lower body movement towards the target during your downswing. This can result in a loss of power to our swing. Physical characteristics which can cause this are the lack of ability to rotate around the lead hip, inability to separate upper and lower body, and lack of glute strength . . OSTEO: This excessive lower body movement can cause hip and lower back pain as a result of increased load and strain to lower body. Strength and mobility work to imp...rove movement patterns can assist with decreasing load and strain placed through the body due to swing faults . . GOLF: The upper body needs a stable lower body to accelerate around during the downswing. The forward shift of the lower body in the downswing needs to transfer energy to the upper body and stabilize the extreme rotary forces that are created in the upper body, arms, and club. If there is no stable platform to rotate around, a loss of power will be the consequence. See more

10.01.2022 The late buckle is a swing characteristic which is determined by a drop in the knees after the point of impact. Physical reasons which can cause this are weakness through our core and glute muscles, restrictions to hip or ankle, or lower back pain. Here are some strength exercises to improve stability of core and gluteal muscles: . . - Standing side leg raises: This helps strengthen glute med and an important muscle to stabilise the hip and pelvis which will prevent bu...ckling at the hip . . - Advanced Bridges: see previous posts for regression but this exercise will strengthen core, glutes and hamstrings which will allow for extension and explosion into the lead leg during the follow through, again preventing the buckle . . - Donkey kicks: strengthening glute max will again allow extension and straightening through the swing and prevent collapsing of the leg See more

04.01.2022 Chicken winging is a term which describes the break down of the lead arm through impact . . It is a bent elbow and cupped wrist at the point of impact. Physical issues which can lead to this are usually lower body issues in not generating enough power, lower body not initiating the downswing, steepening of the swing plane, and loss of external rotation of the lead arm .... . OSTEO: lower body strength issues are usually from lack of muscle activation especially through the glutes and decreased mobility not allowing muscles to fire to generate power. Furthermore if there is loss of external rotation of the lead arm it is difficult to develop a fluid swing. Identifying the cause and resolving this issue through manual assessment, treatment and rehab can be an efficient way to optimise movement patterns to improve your swing. . . GOLF: Chicken winging can not only create a loss in power but also can add loft to the club and cause excessive spin of the golf ball. See more

02.01.2022 Casting/Scooping are swing characteristics which refer to premature release of the wrist angles during the downswing . . Physical characteristics which can cause this are lack of drive from the lower body during the swing, poor forearm and grip strength and inability to extend the trail wrist. Here are some strength exercises which can help: .... . Single leg glute bridges: the glutes stabilise and drive power in our golf swing and allow the lower body to initiate and create force . . Wrist/elbow rotations: improving grip and forearm strength will help prevent breakdown of wrist angles through the swing . . Wrist strengthening with club: whilst encouraging radio/ulna deviation and further strengthening wrist and forearm muscles See more
