25.01.2022 . (Heard this gem in James Clear's book Atomic Habits). What it means is that whatever metrics you track when trying to build habits is what you'll be focussed on improving. ... For example, if your goal is to get fitter and stronger and improve your nutrition but the only way you're tracking progress is a number on the scale, then you'll engage in behaviours that will result in a lower number. This could mean you engage in crash diets and extreme exercise programs, or buy shakes and diet teas and fat burners - anything that gets a lower number on the scale. However, these aren't healthy behaviours. They don't support your long term health and wellbeing. They don't lead to a stress-free relationship with food and they don't teach you how to care for your body. So what can you track instead? Sessions in the gym Meals you add veggies Serves of protein Weight you're lifting Daily activity By tracking these metrics, this is what you'll focus on and improve. #goliathfitness #FitnessforEveryBody #GoFit

25.01.2022 Nothing to it but to do it If you want to get fitter and stronger, the only way that's going to happen is if you start doing things that will make that happen. You need to stop planning, stop looking for the perfect training program, stop analysing all the popular diets, and actually start. ... I know change is hard and new things can be scary. But taking the first step is the only way to move forward. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, as the proverb goes. So how do you stop planning and start doing? 1. Make it easy Have your training clothes ready to go, have veggies chopped up in the fridge to snack on - reduce the steps you have to go through to make it happen 2. Make it attractive Think about how it'll feel to be able to run around with your kids at the park or be able to move your furniture by yourself. That's the reward of getting fitter, stronger, and healthier. The more attractive the reward, the more likely you are to take the action that leads to it. Ready to take the first step? Head to www.goliathgym.com.au/links and register for your 2 week trial. Nothing to it but to do it! #goliathfitness #FitnessforEveryBody #GoFit

24.01.2022 100kg squat for Santannah! After originally starting the gym to just do cardio, Santannah has continued to surprise herself with her strength. She's a quiet achiever and an absolute powerhouse in both HIIT and Strong sessions. 2021 will be about building more confidence in her lifting with more time under the bar but this is a huge milestone to end 2020 with!... Congratulations Santannah! #goliathfitness #FitnessforEveryBody #GoFit

22.01.2022 Being able to brace your core effectively is an important foundation of everyone’s training program. If you’re not bracing properly, you aren’t getting effective force transfer through your lifts and you’re not creating the stability required to be able to lift heavier loads safely.

22.01.2022 Box jump progress! Often with box jumps, the mental barrier stops people from doing them more than their physical ability. We have been working with Cait on her confidence with box jumps by having her jump from a step onto the box so her target always looks the same. We have gradually reduced the height of the step and we're now so close to those jumps being off the floor! ... Cait has also been dealing with a wrist injury for the past 6 weeks but has still come to every training session. We've modified movements to work around her injury and she's still able to make progress despite having limited movement in her left wrist. Awesome work Cait, your resilience and subsequent progress is so good to see. Keep it up! #goliathfitness #FitnessforEveryBody #GoFit

12.01.2022 . I get asked frequently, how do I stay motivated to train regularly? And the answer is, I don't. If you only train when you feel motivated, when you feel that excitement that something new brings, then your training will be sporadic and you won't stick to anything long enough to get the results you're after. ... Let's look at it this way. Do you feel motivated to clean your teeth every day? No, you don't. That's because it's a habit. You've been doing it for so long that it's just part of what you do. Even on days where you're tired or stressed, you still brush your teeth because it's just something you do. You also know how you feel after you've brushed your teeth, and that reward reinforces the habit. Commit to showing up regularly to make training a habit, and enjoy the reward - more energy, better sleep, improved movement quality, increased muscle mass, improved fitness, . This reward is what will reinforce the habit and keep you going back - this is the "motivation" you're looking for. #goliathfitness #FitnessforEveryBody #GoFit

10.01.2022 If you're not having fun, what's even the point? Yeah, you can grit your teeth and slug your way through a short term program but you can't do that forever. Training hard doesn't mean being miserable. ... Find a way to train or move your body in a way that you enjoy. Because if you enjoy it, you'll do it consistently, and as we know, consistency is key

09.01.2022 Top 6 Fitness and Nutrition Myths Debunked Even though we’ve come so far in terms of fitness and nutrition and our access to information is greater than ever before, there are still some myths that circle around and pop back up, refusing to die like those weeds in the cracks of the driveway. 08.01.2022 Celebrated making it through 2020 with our GoFit crew over the weekend 2020 has been a challenging year, to say the least, but it has also brought so much growth, personally and professionally. We're so grateful to be where we are and to see the way GoFit and the gym has expanded and evolved this year. 08.01.2022 When Lauren started coming to GoFit, she'd never have imagined she'd be squatting this weight and looking forward to adding more! Lauren started coming because she felt like she had to. It wasn't something she particularly enjoyed at first; everything felt hard and she'd get frustrated when progress wasn't immediate. Now Lauren comes because it's part of who she is. She loves the feeling of getting stronger and recently aced her fitness test for a job application. ... Well done Lauren! I'm so proud not only of your physical progress but your mental strength and the growth of your self-confidence @lauren.____ #goliathfitness #GoFit #FitnessforEveryBody

07.01.2022 Monster PB for Dylan on his front squat tonight! 97.5kg in the books Dylan trains consistently and has done so ever since he started GoFit HIIT last year. Dylan has amazing mobility so we have worked to develop control through his movements and build strength by slowing things down. ... We only started our Strong sessions a few months ago and Dylan's strength and control has increased significantly. It's awesome to see him hit this PB tonight Congratulations Dylan! #goliathfitness #FitnessforEveryBody #GoFit #GoFitStrong

06.01.2022 We can do exercises to build muscle and get stronger; we can do varying intensities of cardio to get fitter and build a strong cardio-vascular system, but we can’t do an exercise that will result in fat loss in one specific area.

04.01.2022 Are we anti-weight loss? We talk a lot about how weight loss doesn't have to be the goal and that we focus on performance and movement quality rather than aesthetics. We also want to break down the shame tactics used by so much of the fitness industry to make you feel like you'll never be good enough at any bodyweight or bodyfat percentage. ... However, that's not to say we don't help our clients lose weight (or more accurately bodyfat). Most of our clients come to us and initially say they want to lose weight. We go indepth into this to breakdown why that's their goal - do they want to lose weight because they feel like they have to as that's the only option ever been presented to them, or do they want weight loss to be a side effect of getting fitter, stronger, and healthier so they can run around with their young kids and be involved in all the activities, not sitting on the sidelines? Once we've established the why, we look at how to achieve this in the healthiest way possible. I'm not going to tell someone to slash their calorie intake if they're not currently sleeping well, exercising regularly, or drinking water. We also look at how we can measure progress in ways that don't rely on the scale. We work on building healthy habits and strong, fit bodies and fat loss and body recomposition can be a side effect of making these healthy changes. Once our clients see this change, their goals become less about the number on the scale and more about feeling good and pushing their body to do more.

03.01.2022 You're not running out of time. There is no deadline. You're probably seeing a lot of end of year promos about how the year is coming to an end and you should get in the gym to make the most of the time you have left. ... This time of year is stressful enough in a regular year but in 2020, stress levels are elevated even higher. There's no deadline for getting stronger, moving in a way that feels good, and setting up healthy habits. Time doesn't just run out on 31 December. You have a lifetime. That's not to say you shouldn't keep working towards your health and fitness goals. But you don't have to run yourself ragged or give yourself a guilt trip to have everything done by the end of the year. There's no deadline. #goliathfitness #FitnessforEveryBody #GoFit

01.01.2022 "How are they able to do that??" Have you ever thought that when you saw someone doing something you couldn't do yet? Maybe about that person lifting heavier weights at the gym? Or the friend who seems to always have nutritious meals prepped?... And the answer is - practice. The only way to get better at something is to practice. As the saying goes, practice makes progress. As annoying as it is, it's true. Want to get better at training regularly? Practice. Want to get better at moving and lifting stuff? Practice. Want to make better choices with your nutrition? Practice. It's not an all or nothing. No-one is perfect at everything the first time they do it. It comes with practice. And to be honest, health and fitness is a constant practice. Yes, we develop habits which means we're not having to actively make choices about things all the time; it's just what we do. But we're still practicing those habits. So if you want to get better, practice. #goliathfitness #GoFit #FitnessforEveryBody

01.01.2022 Life is what happens outside of the gym. Most of us aren't going to be professional athletes and we don't need to train like them. We just need something that gets us fitter and stronger and healthier in a way that makes the rest of our life a bit better and a bit easier. ... This is what GoFit is for. It's not about training for competitions or being the strongest person alive. It's getting you fitter so you can keep up with the kids or not get about of breath at footy. It's getting you stronger so you can lift and move things on your own, have faith in your body to do certain tasks, and maintain mobility and physical independence as you get older. It's getting you healthier by focusing on moving and eating in a way that's sustainable and enjoyable. You don't have to have big goals or lofty athletic aspirations. Just a desire to be a bit fitter and stronger each day, doing something you actually enjoy, as a benefit to your overall life. #goliathfitness #FitnessforEveryBody #GoFit
