23.01.2022 Cooperation and Compassion as the Foundation of Our Practice Recently during a Reiki share with some beautiful friends, the topic of skills and development came up in conversation. Inevitably some comparisons were made among us and some seemed to feel that they were lesser than others. This is unfortunate as the context and the purpose of a Reiki share is to work together for synergistic effect. We work together to uplift each other. Our current society seems to be built upo...n the precept of competition rather than cooperation and compassion. We are constantly being told that we are, or do not have enough. This is not only false but also counterproductive. Centuries of colonisation, exploitation, pollution and general intolerance and insensitivity has negatively affected our collective consciousness. It seems to have created a winner takes all mindset. However, it does not have to be this way. Some years ago, my classical martial arts master ‘gave’ me access to some esoteric forms of Kung Fu. I then began to share this with other members of our Dojo. My master said this sharing was unusual as most people like to keep such new knowledge for themselves. Of course, I wanted to be great with it, but by sharing it with others who were smarter and more experienced than myself we all learnt and grew as we worked together to understand the new information. If we are to realise ourselves and be the best that we can be, working together is the best way to maximise our growth. We need to move on from a winner takes all mentality where we smash the opposition, to one based on compassion and cooperation. We need compassion for ourselves too, as it is from our mistakes and our experiences that we learn and grow. In my experience maximum growth occurs when things are not done for us but rather offered with compassion. Time, space and skills are offered to use, share and ultimately contribute to further development of the collective ideas. I believe that our recent time in lockdown, in isolation and with travel restrictions has shown us that we're better together. The ideas of collective cooperation and compassion form the ethics of all our Qi Gong classes and workshops. I look forward to continuing to share the Qi Gong with a dose of love, light and laughter. Together we are more than the sum of our parts.
