23.01.2022 Grass seeds can cause havoc for your best bud and they’re abundant right now, so watch out. Walk your dog on sealed paths and avoid natural scrub paths. If you can’t help it, check your dog’s coat, ears and paws. The sharp ends of seeds can pierce your dog’s skin and burrow into the flesh. In severe cases were left undetected, they can travel deep into the body. #dogs #wellbeing

A positive reinforcement trainer can help you and your dog master the art of a good recall if you’re having trouble. #dog #training

16.01.2022 Registering your dog is more than obeying the law, it's an investment in your dog and community. Everything from dog parks, poo bags and the animal management officers who bring your lost dogs home, are all funded by dog registration fees. Don’t forget to update your details if you move or your contact details change. And if your dog goes to a new home you need to transfer the registration to the new owner. More info >http://www.dogandcatboard.com.au/ #dog #happy

16.01.2022 Always supervise your dog around children. Some dogs don’t like being patted or cuddled by strange children and some children don’t know how to behave around dogs. Make sure your dog isn’t put in a situation where it can react unexpectedly with children. Any dog can respond badly if frightened or annoyed. Find out more at https://www.gooddogsa.com/children-and-dogs

14.01.2022 Prescribed breed, what’s that? In South Australia there are five unfortunate chaps who’ve been ‘character assassinated’ for reasons there’s no need to discuss. These are: the American Pit Bull Terrier, Fila Braziliero, Japanese Tosa, Dog Argentinia and Presa Canario. Anyone owning one of these breeds must ensure they’re desexed and firmly muzzled outside their home/property and under effective control by physical restraint (on a leash of no more than two meters long). Anyone who sells or gifts or places and advertisement to sell or gift a prescribed breed is guilty of an offence. There are also extra-hefty expiation penalties for owners if they/they dog of prescribed breed breaches any law of the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995.

14.01.2022 Did you know chocolate is toxic to dogs? If your dog eats chocolate she can become extremely ill because it contains theobromine and caffeine. These chemicals are used in medicine as a diuretic, heart stimulant, blood vessel dilator, and muscle relaxants. Dogs can’t metabolise these chemicals as well as people, therefore they're sensitive to their effects. So please guard your Easter chocs. Keep them away from doggo’s eyes and nose because you can bet, he’ll want some. It’s in his best interest to save him the pain.

14.01.2022 UPDATE: Due to the Premier’s announcement today, this event has been cancelled.

14.01.2022 As it starts warming up, don’t forget to keep an eye out for snakes. They could pop into your yard and also on your doggo’s walkies. If you suspect a snake bite seek veterinary assistance immediately. #dog #snakebite

14.01.2022 As well as looking after your dog’s wellbeing, owners have responsibilities to comply with law. For example, desexing and microchipping your dog is mandatory and owners must ensure these details are entered in dogsandcatsonline.com.au the State-wide dog and cat register for animals and breeders. These laws were designed to reduce unwanted litters, return animals home quicker if lost and keep them out of shelters. #dog #DogAndCatLaws

07.01.2022 BUYING A PUPPY OR KITTEN? In South Australia, a person who sell dogs and cats they have bred must be registered on Dogs and Cats Online. Breeders affiliated with ‘authorised associations’ such as Dogs SA, The Feline Association of SA and The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy SA adhere to their organisation’s specific codes of practice and have their association numbers displayed in Dogs and Cats Online. Do your research before buying your new dog or cat. Check the breeder is registered in Dogs and Cats Online and its good practice to visit their facilities. 05.01.2022 Doggo’s paws might seem tough, but they’re not indestructible. In extreme heat, they can burn walking on roads, footpaths, sand or fake grass. If you can’t walk barefoot on a surface, then please don’t walk your dog on them either. Or check with your hand by placing your palm flat on the surface if you can’t hold it down comfortably for more than a few seconds, avoid walking your dog. Walk them at night instead when the footpaths and roads have cooled down.
