A couple of years ago he obtained his CF qualifications with the FITS program so he has been on a educational journey for a few years now . His strive for further education is a credit to him . 17.01.2022 Today some of the students in their theory session covered gaits of the horse , use and application of the heart bar and joint anatomy. The homework was revised which was Gaits and what influences the farrier has . 16.01.2022 So today Kayla and Jarrons forging exercise was to forge an aluminium ring , fire weld it , fuller it and nail holes . Before their forging they answered 5 test questions and revised their homework. Great day

14.01.2022 So this is Darcy Anderson . He is currently in the process of completing his RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning )Certificate 4 in Farriery . ACM40818.He is signed up with QBVET in Queensland and travels 3 hours every fortnight to attend Goodlands Farrier School for his training . Darcys main focus over the past 4 years has primarily been further education. 13.01.2022 So one of our student that keeps us smiling is Angus . He comes every fortnight as he has a keen interest in metal work . This week he made some hands with the aid of a plasma cutter . 12.01.2022 The theory for some of the students started with identifying key features, actions ,locations and orientations of the musculoskeletal system . Kim did a demonstration on how to shoe a horse and what he expects from the students. Modified store bought shoes and forging tools were also achieved. Jarron successfully welded aluminium bar inserts and we also assessed a foal with some angular limb deformities. A huge but very successful day with Kayla Tom James

10.01.2022 We started the day by going over their homework and had great discussions on concussion and the blood supply to the hoof . Then we had the perfect day to be around the forge . Kim demonstrated a plain stamp shoe and helped them improve their time management.Tom , Kayla and Jarron did a great job .

10.01.2022 So this week we welcome Anthony from NSW to the school . He is spending 6 days with us . Anthony wanted to improve his skill set . So he spent the week working with Kim . Each afternoon they had a couple of hours of private lessons ranging from theory ,forging lessons and dissections . To finish his week he will do the clinic with Rowan Coleman from the WA farriers Association. This industry allows us to met people from around the country and around the world . 05.01.2022 Today in Jarrons private lesson we covered the importance of a trim and sometimes what the farriers leaves is just as important as what they take off . In his theory Kim showed Jarron shapes for his drawings and how to adapt this to forging ,he also did a good job of fire welding. You did a great trim today - well done !!

05.01.2022 So last Wednesday I was given the opportunity to share my passion of shoeing horses to a group of police officers that showed an interest in the role of the Farrier . We covered distal limb anatomy, a basic dissection out lining tendons,ligaments,bones and blood supply to the foot . After a break we went though the exercise of nailing shoes on cadaver legs and then removing them , giving them a feel of doing this task in the field . This is a skill which would be needed in an emergency,all of the participants embraced this task with enthusiasm. 04.01.2022 So today we say hello to two new students. Aidan Freight and Angus Perry . Aidan has just signed up with QBVET RTO #41374 and working towards completing his Cert4 in Farriery. Ill get pics next time Aidan ,sorry . Angus and his guardian Narna have come to see if Forging steel / blacksmithing is what they want to pursue. We welcome both of them to our school and look forward to them coming on a fortnightly basis . Our other groups worked on modifying store bought shoes and a...chieving a good fit . 04.01.2022 So while we are having a break from group lessons we are getting help from Jeff our brick layer friend to brick in our coke forge . Using rasps for hooks and adding a few limestone blocks for a feature . The long awaited flue being put in so we dont get smoked out . Still a long way to go . Ill post again soon

04.01.2022 So our end of year theory tests have started . It covered all our sessions that we have studied throughout the year . Everyone who has sat the theory has excelled . We met Chad a few years ago when he first asked us for some guidance with his farrier education.Before long he sat his Certified Farrier exam within the FITS programme and now has recently signed up with QBVET RTO #41374 to complete his Certificate 4 in Farriery. 02.01.2022 Introducing Kayla Over the past few years Kim has examined many talented female farriers overseas and now we are beginning to see more and more female farriers emerging in Australia. Kayla is currently working through her Certificate 4 in Farriery via the recognition of prior learning programme (RPL).ACM40818 QBVET RTO #41374, which is being delivered at Goodlands Farrier School in Serpentine.We are extremely proud of her progress and dedication to her trade .

01.01.2022 Today we held an all day clinic at the school . We started with a leg dissection then after lunch we shared ideas and got to work with and apply modern materials to cavalier legs . We tested the heat range to some of the products which was extremely interesting. Mick Saunders was kind enough to do a talk and a forging demo for the remaining of the afternoon. We had over 25 farriers / hoof care professionals throughout the day . Thanks to everyone who came , to those who par...ticipated in the presentation. Kim , Mark and Mick .
