25.01.2022 Have you heard of the coffee diet? Or that coffee can help with weight loss? What's the evidence? Although it is true that caffeine promotes movement of fat from fat cells and an increase in metabolism, does that result in lost kilos? A higher metabolic rate does mean more calories burnt, but the effect seems to be greater in younger, and leaner people. As to fat mobilisation, fats released into the bloodstream from fat cells will only be 'lost' if used for energy, and your b...ody burns fat when it has run out of carbohydrates. So, you will still need to overall reduce calories in your diet for this to work. So, it seems that caffeine in coffee may help you lose weight, but it's not going to do the work by itself. It is part of a bigger strategy. The doses you'd need to be effective are also possibly higher than your body might tolerate well. Yep, same old story- no magic solutions, weight loss is a long term journey. #coffeediet #weightlossjourney #fatloss See more

21.01.2022 The incidence of childhood obesity is rising and is a worldwide problem. This is not about teasing in the schoolyard - it is a real and strong influence on health problems throughout life. #childhoodobesity #eatforhealth #healthykids #healthyeating #dietandexercise

20.01.2022 Have you ever wondered why sprouted grain loaves seem to be the latest health food trend? Lots of interesting points here. One that stood out for me was the fact that sprouting makes some of the starches and proteins in the grain easier to digest so that non-coeliac but gluten intolerant or possibly high fodmap avoiders might find sprouted grains easier to digest. 16.01.2022 I just watched a super documentary on ABC iview called "The truth about boosting your immune system". I really recommend it. Easy explanations and illustrations of people who made small lifestyle changes and boosted their immune systems. It backs up everything that I 'preach' so watch and enjoy! (everyone enjoys a little validation!) https://iview.abc.net.au//truth-about-boosting-your-immune

14.01.2022 Is coffee good for you? Yes! In moderation, it is. Not just the caffeine, but the polyphenols too, so decaf also has benefits for your gut microbiota. If caffeine has unpleasant side effects for you then get on to decaf if you love the taste of coffee. Benefits include lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes, lower risk of Alzheimers and lower risk of liver disease! One or two cups a day is the recommendation for heathy coffee drinking. #coffeebenefits #coffee #guthealth

10.01.2022 I love it when someone who previously did one of my courses makes cooking healthy dishes part of their every day routine. Good on YOU Nel Parro for persevering with fish even though you had no confidence in cooking it before. #EverydayWins #omega3 #healthyeating #eatfish
