18.01.2022 We have been busy learning about the human body in the Kindergarten room and on Tuesday, we continued our learning about the digestive system by doing an experiment. Beginning at the mouth, the children engaged in activities that mimicked the different processes that occur as our bodies process food. In the end of our experiment, all we had left was the waste our body gets rid of, poo! QKLG 4.1 Building positive dispositions towards learning.

15.01.2022 In the Senior Toddler room, we have provided the children with a loose part/science area. This week we have introduced a variety of small natural resources such as small pine cones, rocks, bark and more for the children to use their fine motor skills as they pick up the pieces, manipulating the tongs to do so. The Senior Toddlers can sort and categorise into sizes if they prefer which will encourage them to develop some mathematical concepts. This area has been very popular with not only the Senior Toddlers but also the children passing through on arrival and departure.

15.01.2022 We received a donation from a family of giant cardboard pieces with big circles cut from them. What better use of these, than to make a cubby house? We constructed a cubby and have been using it in a variety of ways. We threaded the material through it one day this week, we have played peek a boo through the holes, and used the holes to poke toys through to our friends on the other side. We scared Miss Rach by hiding in the cubby and pretending we had all gone home, jumpi...ng out and saying boo! When we saw her. Today we hung some streamers from the roof and this gave our cubby a whole new look and sensory experience. We walked through them so the streamers ran over our heads, we pulled on them, we ran our hands through them and also shone the torches on them. What a great resource from one of our centre families! Thanks to Zena and Troy! See more

14.01.2022 A great day experience for all children
14.01.2022 Last week in Kindergarten we worked on a new puzzle format- a sphere shaped farm scene. Not only did we have to match the picture on the puzzle, but we also had to work as a team to place the pieces over a bowl shape which helped support the frame of the puzzle. As we examined the pieces in the box, we realised that we needed to work together. We began by reading the instructions which suggested separating the puzzle pieces (half were white on the back and half were striped).... We also discovered numbers on the back of the puzzle pieces so we began by placing number one on the base of the bowl and continued following the number order on the pieces. As we completed the base, the children were able to get a better picture of what the puzzle looked like and could match the puzzle pieces. We took it in turns to join our pieces onto the bowl and in just a short time we had half the puzzle done. The second half followed the same idea so I was able to step back and allow the children more opportunity to problem solve and work together on completing the puzzle. When both halves were finished, they joined together to create a sphere. Great job everyone! 12.01.2022 Did you know that there are volcanoes in the ocean? They are also known as submarine volcanoes and we created our own submarine volcano last week, during science week, as part of our ocean project. Two chemicals, which can be found in the cooking aisle at the supermarket - citric acid and sodium bicarbonate (also known as baking soda) - were added to our mini display volcano and as the water was added, bubbles began to lift up and out of the volcano. The children asked for th...e experiment to be repeated several times. We talked about whether animals would be able to live in the volcano and discussed the difference between an active and a dormant volcano, before following up our experiment with research using the ipad to further the childrens understanding of submarine volcanoes. The kit is available from Kmart if you would like to try this experiment at home! QKLG 4.1 Building positive dispositions towards learning & 4.2 Shows confidence and involvement in learning. See more
