21.01.2022 Today is Indigenous Literacy Day. At Goodstart we are deeply committed to Reconciliation, we want to recognise our rich culture, history and connection to our ...First Australians every day and celebrate by embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in all that we do. We know that language is more than just a means to communicate, it is an essential characteristic that makes people and communities unique and plays a central role in a sense of identity. Did you know there were more than 250 Indigenous Australian languages spoken on the continent at the time of European settlement in 1788? Now Only 13 traditional Indigenous languages are still acquired by children today. (source: Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies website) In Australia the 2018 NAPLAN report indicated that only 36% of Indigenous Year 5 students in very remote areas are at or above the national minimum reading standards, compared to 96% for non-Indigenous students in major cities. Keep Indigenous language strong by finding out the language of the Traditional Custodians where you’re located by visiting https://gambay.com.au and incorporating it into activities with your children. Advocate for better access to literacy resources for remote Indigenous communities by learning more from the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. https://www.indigenousliteracyfoundation.org.au/

21.01.2022 Happy Fathers day to all the Dads, Stepdad's and Grandfathers out there

20.01.2022 Today we are experimenting with a different type of sensory exploration, and attempting to use our fine motor skills to paint with our feet! As the children laid on their back and connected with the environment, they also showed that art comes in many forms, and can be created with many different crafts and tools. We heard the giggles of ticklish feet, watched the shivers from their senses when they felt the paint touch their feet and experienced in their joy as they stomped their feet into their amazing art. Art is not what you see, but what you make others see. Edgar Degas.

20.01.2022 Dear families, You will be aware of news reports of two new positive COVID-19 cases in Qld today which have resulted from two people recently returned from interstate. 19.01.2022 This week we celebrated National Science Week. All children from Nursery to our Kindy room have engaged in different science experiments. Our favourite experiments have been the milk food dye experiment, creating volcanos, which item will float or sink and colour mixing. Introducing science into a child's environment supports them to develop a range of skills and processes such as problem solving, inquiry, experimentation, hypothesising, researching and investigating (outcome 4.2). Throughout these experiences we have discussed with the children the different reactions that could occur. We have loved hearing their thoughts on what they think will happen during the experiment!

17.01.2022 Recognition of Aboriginal culture, language and history is important for children to understand connections between diverse communities. Both the Pre-Kindy and Toddlers this week took part in their own activities to recognise being, belonging and becoming a part of not only the land the people before us, but belonging as part of the Goodstart Buderim environment. We’re fortunate enough to have one of the richest and oldest continuing cultures in the world here in Australia. This is something we should be proud of, and here at Goodstart Buderim, we celebrate this daily. We pay our respects to the Gubbi Gubbi people for sharing the land on which we learn on, play on and thrive on.

14.01.2022 We think it’s safe to say that 2020 has been a year unlike any other. For the world, for Australia and for our Goodstart team. Over the past few months people, ...families and communities have been tried and tested in the most extraordinary ways. As frontline essential workers our ‘Goodstarters’ rose to this challenge, stepping up to support our 60,000 families and 71,000 children through some incredibly challenging times. So we’ve declared this week Thank You Week! A week to celebrate and recognise our 10,000+ Goodstarters for continuing to go above and beyond in face of adversity. We have a few special surprises planned for our Goodstarters this week, but in the meantime we'd love for our Goodstart families to get involved too! Please share your messages of thanks and support below and tag an educator or a centre who has really made a difference. #ThankYouWeek #InThisTogether

14.01.2022 Not all superheroes wear capes. With the end of Superhero Dress-up Week, we recognise our heroes that you don't see wearing capes everyday. During this phenomenal time of change, our heroes have continued to show their incredible capabilities of strength, determination, placidity and most importantly, love. Who are these superheroes you ask? Our Educators. Our educators at Goodstart Buderim don't wear capes. Our educators don't save lives. Our educators aren't labelled as her...oes. But without our essential service of providing to the community, many others would be without support. Whilst our life is about social distancing, through our doors, our educators love, hold and care for the children regardless, putting themselves at risk every day. Whilst others are practicing hygiene, our educators are teaching it, so the children have a healthy and happy future. Whilst the world is turning upside down, our educators are making the world right side up, to allow our children to learn, grow and develop to the best of their ability. Want to see a superhero in real life? Walk into our centre, and you'll see not just one, but many, loving and caring superheroes.

09.01.2022 Book Week! Our Kindergarten teachers and one of our little friends J dressed up as the characters from Where's Wally to celebrate Book Week today. The Kindergarten children have been enthusiastically reading the Where's Wally collection the past few weeks, trying to find Wally and his friends. What fun it is dressing up as your favourite character from a book!

09.01.2022 This week encompasses both Superhero Dress Up Week and National Child Protection Week. In order to promote child protection, we encouraged the children to dress up as superheroes to remind them of their own secret powers of keeping themselves and others safe and protected. Our superheroes had many different capabilities and powers, but regardless of who they dressed up as today, they knew just like their educators that they are safe and secure in amongst our care, and will always have a safe place to come to everyday, a place to be themself.

07.01.2022 2020 has been a year like no other.
