23.01.2022 We know many Victorian families are spending more time at home. Regardless of whether you attend one of our centres, we’re here to help! Goodstart@Home is an online platform we've created to support parents and children to learn, explore and play at home. It’s an activity hub filled with hundreds of fun and inspiring things to do at home, along with some really helpful information, tools and advice about children’s routines, behaviour and emotions.... The best news is it’s available for everyone. Even if you aren’t a Goodstart family you can access Goodstart@Home for only $12 per year ($1 per month). Because we care about children’s learning and are here to help! https://athome.goodstart.org.au/

22.01.2022 Media Project in Gunnawarra Learning Environment The children in Gunnawarra have shown a huge interest in photography and creative arts. To foster this interest ECT Kate and Educator Jase have set up an ongoing media project where children can explore art through photography and media. The children are provided with the opportunity to take photos of the environment, people and objects that intrigue and are of interest to them. Once they have taken their photos they are then ...supported through the process of editing their images and creating different effects to their liking. The children have also taken it a step further by requesting to print their photos out, cut them up and make abstract art with them. The intent behind this project also is for the children to explore a different element of themselves and others through a new art medium. As well as exploring arts media. The children then reflect on what pleases them visually and why. Then work on how best to capture this. The children will explore different editing techniques both using editing technology and different artistic techniques (cutting, colouring etc). Check out the photos below - the kinder children have created amazing pieces of art and photography. Combining photography and art for children offers a range of exciting and valuable learning experiences, not to mention some great experiences. The benefits include: * learning a new skill, which can boost children’s self esteem * encouraging planning and presentation skills * allowing children to display their potential through creativity * providing children with the opportunity to be innovative * giving children the opportunity to communicate their ideas, thoughts and feelings * stimulating children to develop their own ideas on design * self expression

20.01.2022 CHILD LED PLAY Children are play experts. They learn so much through play in their early years and did you know they learn best when they’re focused and engaged in play initiated by themselves? Child led play supports children in having ideas and being in control of their learning. It enables them to learn through first-hand experiences, allowing them to choose how to use the resources to do so. ... Allowing children to lead not only supports their curiosity and creativity, but also empowers them. Child led play also gives our children ownership of their play and experiences. This is extremely important as it helps with the development of their sense of identity and self-esteem. It develops their belief in themselves as thinkers and learners. Child-led activities may start out as an adult initiated activity however by allowing children space and time; children may extend the resources and ideas given to create their own experience. Through trial and repetition in play our children initiate, they get to practice and master skills. They learn persistence and perseverance as they are more motivated to keep going when it’s something they’re completely into. As you can see our children in the Barramul and Banya learning environment have initiated their own play through using doona covers and sheets to transform the climbing apparatus into multiple cubby houses. 18.01.2022 Within our Banya and Barramul outdoor learning environment, educators have been very busy resourcing many large and loose parts materials to engage the children in many different types of learning. The learning that educators have observed taking place within these spaces:- *Children are further developing their large gross motor development and strength building, engaging with resources to take part, assemble, invent and construct... *Children are further developing their balance, cooridnation and agility skills *Children are developing their knowledge on risk assessment and safety of oneself and others *Children are developing independence and ownership over their play spaces, which is helping develop their self-esteem and and understanding that they are capable learners *Children are using their imaginations and creative minds to act out different roles and play scenarios If our families out there have any loose parts materials they would like to donate, please feel free to let one of our educators know, we are always looking for more resources to add to our learning experiences. These are a just a few photos, to see more photos and learning taking place please log onto storypark :)

18.01.2022 Some children have become quite familiar to seeing their parents and educators wearing face masks, and shown an interest in wanting to wear their own. However some children can still have mixed and varying emotions about seeing the face masks on educators and their parents. Today in the Gurri room Educator Tara incorporated mini face masks into their dramatic play area with the dolls. ... As it is not recommended for children under two to wear face masks this is a great alternative for children to be able to extend on their interest in wanting to have one of their own. For children who display mixed emotions, talking with them can be a great way to help children become more familiar with the face masks, and this play experience also helps take sharing information that one step further by encouraging children to play and explore their feelings towards them.

08.01.2022 Big hello to Sarah! Sarah is the fearless leader of our Barramul room, which is our 3 year old kinder program. She holds a Bachelor in Early Childhood Education and has been with us since January 2019. Scroll down to learn a little bit more about our Sarah, and feel free to leave her your own shout out below!!... Time in Early Learning: Four Years Favourite thing about the job: Watching the sheer joy that children experience as they learn something new and knowing that I was part of that experience. Dream Job: Presenter on Getaway or an Early Childhood Teacher without the mountain of paperwork! Family: I live with my husband, Harrison, and our two crazy, furry children: Reggie the kelpie cross and Lisa the cattle dog cross. Hobbies/Interests: I'm a big Harry Potter nerd who enjoys spending weekends exploring our beautiful region by hiking, kayaking, or taking my dogs for adventures. When we could, I also loved travelling overseas. When I'm not working or exploring, I enjoy spending time with friends and trying out new restaurants. I'm always looking for a good spot for date night! Something you wouldn't guess about me: I'm the surprise baby girl that my parents weren't expecting to have in their mid-forties! They'd thought they'd finished having kids after their six boys and were starting to enjoy life as grandparents when I came along. This meant that I was an aunty as soon as I was born, and I became a great aunty at the ripe old age of 17. I now have 14 nieces and nephews and 6 great nieces and nephews.

07.01.2022 A huge thank you to BENDIGO KART CLUB for the donation of old go kart tyres. They have been a great addition to our loose parts play and construction zones. They were delivered on the Wednesday just before stage 3 lockdown and the children have explored with them in so many different ways already. *Exploring engineering and coordination skills through stacking them on top of each other and making other various constructions ... *Exploring motion through rolling them to one another, using the balance beams to roll them down *Exploring them in dramatic play by wearing them on their arms and feet and pretending to be different identities *Exploring pattern making in the sandpit by rolling them through the sand and turning them on the side and pressing them into the sand We cannot wait to see where else their imaginations will take them with the go kart tyres.

05.01.2022 We love you Nona!! Fiona (aka Fi, aka Nona) came across to us from our Strathfieldsaye centre in 2019 and boy was that a joyful day for us!! Nona is our Gurri 3 leader this year, working on our unders side Monday to Friday. Get to know more about our Fi below!... Time in early learning- 10 years Fav thing about the job- seeing the children’s faces light up when they are discovering something new about their world or about them. I also love when I have made a beautiful connection with them and then I hear them call out my name Nona Dream job- I have always wanted to be a cake baker and decorator, have my own tea shop where people can enjoy my yummy cooking with a nice cuppa! Family/hobbies/interests- I have 3 older sisters and 2 nieces. I’m single and live with my cat (and hopefully one day soon a puppy!). I love baking, video games, books (I have a whole room dedicated to my books), going on walks and I love sci-fi, especially Star Wars!! Something you wouldn’t guess about me- Before I moved to Bendigo to start my childcare career I was a big horse rider. I owned my own horse and use to compete in events. Now when I want to have a horse ride I go and visit my sister and we go for a simple ride down the road. We love you Nona, thank you for choosing us!

04.01.2022 Gurri Educators Di and Fi have been very busy lately sourcing different materials to create resources to extend on children's play and learning within their environment. They have made busy boards, these boards provide children with the opportunity to tinker, learn, and explore the things around them safely. Tinkering is a great way for children to explore their natural curiosity about life. Busy boards are also a wonderful invitation for children to explore and further deve...lop their cognitive skills, language skills, fine and gross motor skills, social interactions, and problem-solving skill. They have upcycled old laminate floor boards and turned them into pieces of road for the children to further extend on their interest in cars and construction.

03.01.2022 Story time provocation in the Banya learning environment. Within this learning space educators have provided an array of picture books for the children to explore with and have also provided the children with different props to be able to engage in and act out their own story telling. Sharing stories with children can help their learning and development in so many different ways.... Reading and sharing stories can: * help children get to know sounds, words and language, and develop early literacy skills *learn to value books and stories *spark children’s imagination and stimulate curiosity *help children’s brain, social skills and communication skills develop *help children learn the difference between ‘real’ and ‘make-believe’ Encouraging children to act out their own stories is a fun and great way to build on their sociodramatic play as well as enhance their oral language skills, vocabulary and narrative understanding.
