18.01.2022 Early literacy skills begin with reading and storytelling. Spontaneous story time happens regularly in the junior room as well as more structured group times. Here children learn about sounds, words, language and develop an early love for reading and the joy of books.

17.01.2022 Play based learning is such an important part of school readiness.

17.01.2022 This week in our 0-2 spaces the educators have been introducing counting to five in Wiradjuri and introduce some Aboriginal literacy which will be a part of thwir everyday language and literacy resources. They will also be introducing counting in Ngiyampaa as well as we recognise that we have children from both Wiradjuri and Ngiyampaa tribes within the Nursery space. I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I work and live, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. I pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

13.01.2022 Holi is a popular ancient Hindu festival, also known as the "festival of colours", and the "festival of spring". It also signifies the triumph of good over evil. It originated and is predominantly celebrated in India but has also spread to other regions of Asia and parts of the Western world through the diaspora from the Indian subcontinent. Holi celebrates the blossoming of love and for many it is a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair b...roken relationships. The children sat together, looked at the colours, touched them, put them on each other. We tried yummy food, the most favourite was Kadbu as it was sweet. We pointed towards each other’s colours, it may show up on the clothes after putting them in water as I used the food colours for the health and safety. Thank you everyone for being a part of my Holi Festival~ Rama. Thankyou Rama for all the beautiful food you cooked and shared to all the staff and the Nursery children.

13.01.2022 Last week our nursery children delivered an invitation to our preschool and toddler rooms inviting them to their dance party. The Nursery children dance every day, it's their daily ritual that they dance. They have certain songs they dance to which incorporates balance, promotes muscle developments, coordination and many more skills. All the children and educators accepted this invitation and at 10:30 this morning the Nursery hosted a dance party. This was a great opportunity to build on and strengthen our own community relationships as well allowed for family interactions. All the children and educators enjoyed a delightful morning.

09.01.2022 At Kooringal we are always finding new ways we can be sustainability conscious and how we can better improve our sustainability practices. Our much loved Kerri-Ann has introduced to our nursery and kitchen bees wax wraps to cover our fruit platters and prepared meals. Objective is to minimise cling wrap and plastic usage. Our team have welcomed this initiative and Libby has embraced the change. Kerri-Ann made our nursery families their own to take home to create an awareness around sustainability.

08.01.2022 This week we celebrated major milestones for a number of our team members. Alyssa, Candice and Lisa celebrated 10 years of service, Jodi our Centre Director celebrated 15 and Kristin our long standing Nursery group leader celebrated 20 years of service.

08.01.2022 A little outting over your weekend.

08.01.2022 Our Senior Preschoolers have been doing some science experiments this past week. The children found interest on looking at their skin, hands, hair under the new Microscope. This lead to different discussions one of them being about germs. Since Covid the teachers and children have had more than normal discussions on hand washing. So they put their dirty and cleans hands to the test! As you can see the dish that had dirty fingers grew some germs and the dish without was clean fingers! Well done to our preschoolers on maintaining good hand hygiene!

08.01.2022 Did you know that preschool is part of your long day care centre. At Goodstart Kooringal both our Preschool 1 and 2 programs are delivered by teachers who hold relevant Bachelor of Early Childhood Degrees. Part of preschool is giving your child pre-skills so that when they get to school they are ready for formal learning. All children should access preschool the year before starting school.

07.01.2022 What do you think when seeing this photo, using three words or less?? Did you know sand play has many benefits? -Such as; Large muscle skills develop as children dig, pour, sift, scoop, and clean up spills with brush and dustpan. Eye-hand coordination and small muscle control improve as children learn to manipulate sand accessories. Sand play also promotes social skills.
