25.01.2022 In Learning Space 1 we encourage the children to have a sense of involvement in the community (within our learning space) - these sensory activities helped us celebrate Clean Up Australia Day
24.01.2022 Children have an inherent need to take risk. The best thing we can teach them is how to safely take those risks while supporting their need to challenge themselves. By doing this they are actually less likely to have injuries as they will better understand their limits.... We like to do this here at Morwell Central with use of Large Loose Parts inspired by the Anji Play Philosophy. Love, Goodstart Morwell Central.
24.01.2022 Dear Families, There have been a few Government announcements this week which have prompted a number of questions around absences and fees, so I thought I would share a further update with you all. I can confirm that We are able to waive the gap-fee for any day/s your child is absent during the Stage 3 lockdown period... What this means is If your child is sick we will mark the day as absent and the gap-fee will be waived If you would like your child to attend only some of their booked days each week we are able to waive the gap-fee for the days your child is absent. If your child is not able to attend at all during the lockdown period We are able to keep your childs current booking and waive all gap-fees for days your child is absent Please note we do charge in advance and will apply the gap-fee credit to your account each pay cycle once CCS is confirmed by Government Please note: We ask that you please keep your childs booking in place, even if they cant attend all or some of the time. Your fees will be waived (no cost to you), but the funding we receive from Government (CCS) will help keep our educators employed; and our centres open and ready to welcome you back. The Government has allowed providers to do this so that families are still able to retain their bookings, without having any out of pockets costs. We will also be providing a further update soon on the additional support we will be offering around home learning for children who may need to be at home. CCS allowable absences; I know that some of you are concerned that you may exceed your 42 CCS allowable absences for the year if you take extended absences during the Stage 3 lockdown period. I can confirm that today the Government announced an extra 30 absence days for families (72 in total) meaning that a child can be absent for part or all of the six week Stage 3 lockdown period with no out of pocket cost for families. Our priority is to continue to support our children and families through these challenging times. Please reach out to me with any questions you may have. Cheers, Nathan Brown Director Goodstart Morwell Central
24.01.2022 Dear families, We would like to understand how we can best support your childs learning at home during the pandemic. If we were to offer regular online sessions, where your child could connect with educators at the centre, would you be interested in joining us?... The sessions would engage children in play based learning, and be no more than 40 minutes each. Thank-you for letting us know yes or no by Wednesday the 5th of August. Cheers, Nathan.
23.01.2022 Today we celebrate our wonderful kindergarten teachers. World Teachers' Day is a chance to recognise and celebrate the incredible contributions teachers have made in Victorian communities, as they help to teach the future. Thank you for helping to shape the minds of our children at Goodstart Morwell Central!
21.01.2022 Our Learning Space 1 babies are on the move! As their physical development needs continue to be met, a lot of the children have been exploring the indoor climbing equipment as well as the tunnel we have in the room. Beginning to identify and navigate through tricky situations and risks, the children are very confident in their play. ... Also starting to understand the importance of spatial awareness as they travel through the tunnel. Love, Learning Space 1
20.01.2022 Our Kindergarten Class has been continuing to expand on their emerging literacy skills. We have created book baskets, and we have been having a mat time activity based on one of our book baskets. This week the children chose the pirate book basket. We read the story, I wish I had a pirate suit written by Pamela Allen. To extend on from this story we decided to make our own pirate suits. ... We made pirate hats and got dressed up. We made pirate eye patches. The children figured out that the white pastel makes good marks on the black card. The children are also developing scissor skills by cutting out the eye patches. Once finished the children went on to role play a fantastic pirate game they made up together, it was really nice to watch their imaginations at work and how the play evolved. We further extended this interest in pirates by making ourselves into pirates. The children did a fantastic job and had great attention to detail. They are now displayed on the walls of LS7 Kinder for all to see. We will be further extending on our literacy skills, fine motor development and collaborative project work through more book basket readings and by following on with extending on the childrens interests when and where possible through play based learning opportunities. Love, The Kindergarten Class of 2020.

19.01.2022 Our Kindergarten children have been exploring and enjoying many different fairy-tales over the past few weeks. These stories have provided us with many different learning opportunities. This week one of our children requested we read a retelling of The Gingerbread Man. We talked about, the story being an old fairy-tale, what is a retelling and who is an author, who and what the illustrator is, the characters and whether or not the gingerbread man should have hopped on the ...fox to cross the river. Was this a good idea? Why? Why not? By reading this story we were able to make our own gingerbread men. Firstly, we cut out gingerbread men and gave them facial features and decoration. This activity allowed us to practice our scissor cutting skills; which helps to enhance fine motor skills, hand-eye co-ordination, strengthen hand muscles, two-handed co-ordination and directionality. We also discussed and tried hard to concentrate on adding facial features and having attention to detail. This activity led us to making a display of our work and a story book play zone. Secondly, we extended this activity and interest by making our very own freestyle gingerbread men. This activity involved concepts of Mathematics; measurement, quantity, volume, shape and time. It also involved concepts of Science; adding ingredients together to make a biscuit; mixing, making a dough, adding heat to bake the dough, smell and taste. These simple activities lead simply by a child asking to read a story. What a wonderful way to learn. We love play-based, child led learning in our Kindergarten, you never know where their imaginations and curiosity will take us. Love, The Kindergarten Class of 2020.

19.01.2022 We are never more fully alive, more completely ourselves, or more deeply engrossed in anything than when we are playing. -Charles Schaefer Play has such an important role within our learning spaces, our children have the freedom to play how they want and when they want to. This is why in LS1 we have ensured that our children have access to all the different areas of play no matter the environment they're in. We often bring the inside outdoors with building blocks, soft cus...hions and books, we also bring the outdoors in too! One of our children's favourite places in the room is our Sensory Sandpit tub! This place creates lots of happy play and beautiful memories for our children. They build friendships, fine-motor skills and take ownership of the environment. Pictured is Zara and Bentley who are sharing time in the tub looking at all the different animal print stones and using the shovels to manipulate the sand around them. We LOVE sharing these moments with you! Love , The Learning Space 1 Team.
19.01.2022 In Learning Space 2, the children have been intrigued threading through the use of various materials which can be found within the home environment. Threading provides children the opportunity to further develop their: Fine Motor Development Hand-Eye Coordination and Control Concentration... 18.01.2022 On Thursday was R U Ok Day? This was a day where educators were able to reflect and ask one another "are you ok?" as R U ok Day? brings awareness to mental health and help those who might be struggling in life. To help raise this awareness for mental health at Goodstart Morwell Central, Learning Space 3 have created a beautiful area for our amazing team of educators could go to have a moment to themselves and relax during their breaks with meditation music, yoga sessions, co...louring station and a conversation corner for anyone who just felt like a chat. Love, The Learning Space 3 Team
17.01.2022 Happy National Breast-feeding week! At Morwell Central we support families with all the choices they make when feeding their children, Breast-feeding being one of them along with Formula-feeding. We also have a comfortable room registered with Breastfeeding Australia If you need any support as a parent, always feel free to talk to our educators.... We have attached a fun video that is a little bit cheeky with some facts about Breast-feeding and Formula-feeding. Definitely worth watching! The key here is both choices are perfectly ok! https://youtu.be/U_80bWlLJvg Love, The Morwell Central Team.
17.01.2022 This week in Learning Space 4, our young toddlers were highly engaged in a range of fun and educational activities based on our Book of the Week Dear Zoo. During group story times, the educator used the big book and the puppets to engage young learners in the story and conversations. Children are so excited to lift the flaps in the book and find out what animals the zoo sent to us! The group time thus became interactive, engaging and meaningful for toddlers to learn how to g...ather together, listen to a story and engage in group conversations through both verbal and non-verbal ways of communication. We also set up a sensory small world play box filled with chicken peas, tree and grass and different animals. Children showed great excitement when they saw their favourite animals in the box and they couldnt wait to show them to educators and peers. The area is set up as a story scene and prompt for children to use their prior knowledge and imagination to retell the story in their own way, either by verbally saying the names of the animals or simply pointing and moving the animals around. Its a great opportunity for educators to initiate conversations with children to scaffold and extend their vocabulary and oral language skills. Another popular hands-on activity is handprint animals on paper plate. Messy sensory art play is always beneficial for young children to develop various learning dispositions and skills. They loved to choose their favourite animal and colours, with a little bit of help from the educators to paint their hands and draw the other body parts of the animals. This activity helps children develop their sense of confidence, autonomy and achievement, especially because they used their own hands to create their favourite animals! What is your childs favourite book at home and what ideas do you have to engage your child in his or her favourite story? Love, The Learning Space 4 Team.
17.01.2022 Everybody enjoys a good pun! (sometimes even a bad one). We are big believers in filling up each others cups, whether its our children, families or fellow Educators. This week our Educators were spoiled with some naughty treats gifted to us by Learning Space 1.... What of their puns is your favourite? HAPPY WEEKEND EVERYONE!
16.01.2022 Do you have bananas going brown and not being eaten? Rather then placing them in your compost bins to decompose. How about cooking up a delicious banana bread. Todays afternoon was freshly baked banana bread with cheeky choc chips! ... This was definitely a favourite for all aged children! Love, Goodstart Morwell Central Kitchen Team.
16.01.2022 The children were encouraged to dance and move about freely in the open space with the dancing ribbons. Dance, leap, run, twirl and spin a were just a small list of what the children were able to achieve. The children developed dispositions for learning such as curiosity, confidence, creativity, enthusiasm, imagination and reflexivity through his movements, this promoted physical exercise and ignite imagination and play.... Love, Learning Space 2
16.01.2022 This week the children of Learning Space 5 have been enjoying exploring new and exciting books we have in the room. We have been sitting down together in our book corner and outside and reading books and having discussions about the pictures. The children are able to sit in groups and read together, with an educator or have some quiet time alone to read. Exposing children to literacy at a young age is important to help them learn words, sounds and language and develop lite...racy skills early in life while also inspiring imagination, creativity, social skills and communications. Love, The Learning Space 5 Team.
16.01.2022 This week in LS2 we have been working on our gross motor skills! Every morning we set out challenges for the children, whether it be balancing beams, logs, a-frames or stepping stones. At first we began with small stepping stones and the balancing beams but since then the children have grown and developed so much! ... So, we thought we would set up the BIG a-frames and taller stepping stones so the children could challenge themselves. Throughout these experiences the children are further developing their coordination, balance, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, risk play and spatial awareness. How do you incorporate Gross motor/risky play at home? Love, From Learning Space 2

14.01.2022 This week, children in Learning Space 4 have been working creatively and diligently on various Art Experiences. Children love our group art activities! They have been experiencing cutting and pasting, drawing and painting on different materials for different purposes. Provided with various open-ended art materials and ample time, these little artists would create some beautiful and imaginative art work. Creative art collage was a popular table activity this week for different... children to participate, create and express their unique ideas through exploring colours, pictures, designs and patterns, and making beautiful art out of recycled newspaper and magazines and paper scraps. Collaboration and team work were witnessed through the making process of childrens collective art collage. One child loved using yellow paper as yellow flowers and another child loved pasting yellow duck cookies. Another group activity we did was to paint and decorate a mountain for the miniature Jurassic World at the Dinosaur Investigation Area. Children used brown paint to decorate a recycled box pretending its a volcanic mountain for dinosaurs! Our Fathers Day sock painting was another hit this week as children created something beautiful and sweet by themselves for their special person. Art plays an essential role in providing children with a holistic education. Art engages childrens senses in open ended play and assists with the development of their sense of identity, community, wellbeing, learning and communication. Children take pride in their discoveries and creations and experience a sense of emotional satisfaction through art making. Love, The Learning Space 4 Team.
14.01.2022 Good afternoon, Hot cross buns orders are here and ready to go!
14.01.2022 We are continuously encouraging children to be independent. This is shown through the use of children utilising the washing up station after meal times. Children demonstrate their ability to empty their scraps into the scrap bucket and learn about being sustainable and wash up their own crockery and cutlery. If children are provided with hands on experiences, they gain an understanding of their world. ... How do you promote independence in your home environment? I would love to see some pictures. Love, The Learning Space 2 Team.
13.01.2022 This week the children in learning Space four have been observing the pre-Kinder and Kinder children during there Large Loose Parts inspired by Anji Play sessions in their outdoor environment and decided to create their own Anji play using large wooden blocks and tires. The children were able to take risks and used Parallel play for this experience by watching the older children within their own Anji play experience and at times the older children offered assistance to the... younger children to help construct their play. Anji Plays Philosophy is based on an outdoor program that allows children to learn through play, Co-operate with others, take risks, problem solve and get creative with supervision from their Educators. Anji Play allows the children to freely use their imaginations to explore and discover freedom to play using recycled, re-usable and up cycled parts, both big and small The experience promoted group Interactions both small and large, balance and co-ordination, risky play, fine and gross motor skills, turn taking, and problem solving. Love, The Learning Space 4 Team
12.01.2022 In Learning Space Two we have been supporting childrens learning of the mathematical concepts of shapes and colours through sensory and creativity experiences. To extend on childrens interest in painting using different mediums, we cut shapes of circle, triangle and square from sponges, attached these to pop sticks and dipped in paint before pressing into paper to see the print it created. We utilised both the scoured and sponge sides to provide different textures and prin...t results - this gave fascinating results! This experience extended to colour mixing as the children pressed the sponges atop other colours, sparking further discussions about the shapes and colours and what happens when we combine them. Love, The Learning Space Two Team
11.01.2022 In Learning Space 5 we have been working towards incorporating more music into the program. We have added musical instruments like shakers, drums and wooden xylophones into the room as well as making our own shaker by using an old pringles can and rice and even using a ball as a drum. The children have loved exploring the new resources and enjoyed using them through out the day. We have also been doing songs during our group times and listening to music in the room during t...he day and at rest time we play soft sleep music to help create a calm, relaxed environment. Having music in the program for the room helps with children's social development, language skills, increased coordination, cognitive skills and creative expression. Love, The Learning Space 5 Team.

06.01.2022 Science Week! Throughout science week in Learning Space 5 this week we have explored various scientific concepts within experiments and experiences. Ocean Sensory Tub:... We measured and combined chia seeds with water and blue food dye then monitored the transformation throughout the day before engaging in an incredible sensory experience, discussing the feeling of the combination- one child described as feeling like fish eggs! The children found they could make swirls, lines and patterns within this, using both their hands and/or the popsticks provided. Another experiment utilised the natural citric acid of lemons to make bubbly eruptions! We scaffolded the childrens manipulation of pipettes to apply the vinegar to the lemon halves - this involved concentration and cognitive development as they learnt to control the pipettes and collect the vinegar to then release on the lemons. They were mesmerised with how each aspect changed the dynamics and gave a different reaction as we added the vinegar and bicarb soda - we soon had a tub of reacting bubbles and mini volcanos! Building their hand skills, the children began squeezing the lemons - this gave us even more bubbly reactions in the tub! We then used the lemon halves to make prints on paper, extending the experience to imagination & creativity and building the discussion further! Later in the week the children engaged in their own Lava Lamp making, discovering the non-mixing trait with oil and vinegar. We added vinegar and blue food colouring together then added oil. We discussed about how the oil ad vinegar dont mix and create 2 different layers - this was a fascinating discovery!! The children then added bicarbonate soda to create the bubbling reaction of their lava-lamps and watched in wonder as it continued to react. Throughout all of these learning opportunities, the children are Developing skills such as: Sensory dispositions, Manipulation, cognitive and concentration ability, observing change, descriptive language, scientific concepts, Mathematical analysis and concepts. 04.01.2022 This week in Learning Space Two we recognised the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Childrens Day! We began the day with our Acknowledgement of Country then read the Dreamtime Story KooKoo Kookaburra. The children are becoming very confident with identifying animals - this book introduced them to less familiar images of animals, their sounds and the cultural aspect behind the Dreamtime Story; The children were very engaged with the book and can make incredib...le Kookaburra laughs!! To connect and extend from the story, I offered a painting experience where the children used cotton buds to paint resembling colours from the story onto their kookaburras; This supported sharing, colour identification, building fine motor skills, foundations for line marking, sensory dispositions and creativity. Later in the morning we made damper; The children showed great resilience, patience and turn-taking making their own individual dampers, whilst enhancing their concentration, cognitive development mathematical and scientific concepts and texture exposure. We took our time with each step to discuss, measure and feel each ingredient before adding to the bowls. Lots of hands on & sneaky taste-testing too as we mixed it all up! The children enjoyed their yummy damper for afternoon tea whilst we read the Dreamtime Story together again! Love, The Learning Space Two Team
