25.01.2022 Introducing Phillip Island Nature Parks LIVE Penguin TV https://www.penguins.org.au/virtual/live-penguin-tv/ Streaming Phillip Islands Little Penguins into your lounge rooms from Tuesday 25th of August...... Tune in on Facebook Tune in on YouTube What is Live Penguin TV? At sunset every night (AEST) the worlds largest colony of Little Penguins waddle up Phillip Islands floodlit beaches to their homes. Since they arent able to welcome visitors to enjoy this natural phenomenon in person at the moment, they have decided to bring the penguins into our homes across the world instead. How can I watch it you say? Viewers can tune in on either their Facebook page or YouTube channel to watch live and ask questions in real-time. You can watch on your phone, laptop or if youre feeling extra savvy - stream to your TV to enjoy the little penguins on the big screen! What time should I tune in? The Little Penguins come ashore just after sunset 6:00pm (AEST) each night, which obviously varies month to month. Check out their Penguin Arrival Calendar to get an idea of what time to tune in from at different times of the year. If your wanting to help? You can help their rangers and researchers continue to protect these little wonders while our ecotourism attractions are closed, you might consider donating to the Penguin Foundation or Adopting a Penguin. 21.01.2022 We love National Science Week thats why put Shaftsbury team decided this time we wanted to run it for two weeks! This was a fantastic way that provided us with an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Australian scientists and to the world of knowledge. It also aims to encourage an interest in science to encourage younger people to be fascinated by the world we live in. We couldnt think of a better way to kick start our first day back with the children conducting their own science experiments. When we asked the children what they would like to do Lava Lamps were at the top of their list.

21.01.2022 Shaving Foam Rain Clouds When clouds get so full of water that they cant hold any more the water falls back to the ground as rain. The shaving cream forms a cloud like substance above, then the weight of the food colouring will start to push through the shaving cream and fall down through the water thats in the glass! This will look just like streaks of rain falling from rain clouds.

21.01.2022 A big thankyou to our 2 amazing teachers...Nancy and Sasha...thank you both for always going above and beyond for our amazing children and their families!

Our relationships and bond with our children and families is very important to us as it helps us provide the upmost enriching and engaging learning for our children, especially during this tough time. We have really enjoyed conducting our live zoom sessions which have helped continue to grow our special bonds with our children and has enabled us to communicate with them and keep in touch. Thank you for continuing to join in and support us .

17.01.2022 Vinegar Volcano A chemical reaction between vinegar and baking soda creates a gas called carbon dioxide.. There is not enough room in the cup for the gas to spread out so it leaves through the oepning in the top of the cup quickly, causing an eruption

14.01.2022 Ocean in a bottle This oil and water science experiment Is a classic preschool science activity thats been around for years. I actually cant believe we havent done it before! The way the waves roll cascade inside the bottle is just beautiful, and watching the big blobs of colour swoosh and fall through the yellow oil is really fascinating.

14.01.2022 R U OK DAY 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and given the recent circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and support each other where possible and within our means. Yesterday Shaftsbury Blvd took part in R U OK Day, we showed our support by wearing yellow. Just know you are never alone and we’re all in this together.

13.01.2022 Lava lamp Instead of using a light, in our homemade lava lamp we used alka-seltzer to power the lamp or Aspro clear tables. The alka-seltzer reacts with the water to produce carbon dioxide gas bubbles. These stick to the water droplets. The water/gas combo is less dense than the oil, so they rise to the top of the flask.

12.01.2022 Sink Or Float Why does the egg sink in regular tap water, but float in saltwater? The answer lies in the density of water! Density is a measure of the mass per unit volume of a substance. Simply said, how much stuff in a given volume. Water has a density of 1 g/mL (g/cm3). Objects will float in water if their density is less than 1 g/mL. Objects will sink in water if their density is greater than 1 g/mL. The egg will sink in regular tap water because the density of the eg...g is greater than the density of water. The eggs density is only slightly higher than water at 1.03 g/mL, but that is enough to make the egg sink. When you add salt to the water, you are increasing the density of the water by adding more mass (or stuff) in the given volume. You dont really change the volume of the water by adding salt. By adding enough salt, you increase the density of the water so that it is higher than the density of the egg and the egg will float! #scienceexperiments See more

11.01.2022 Our kindergarten room have added a space with one of the children’s favourite books, The Lion King. We have set up this special area for the children to engage in story telling and imaginative play. The children loved this book so much that it inspired them to learn the songs in other languages.

11.01.2022 Magic milk When liquid dish soap is added to milk with drops of food colouring on the surface, the soap reduces the surface tension of the milk and reacts with the fat. This interaction causes the fat particles of the milk to move and create swirls of colour. Try it out and watch the magic happen

11.01.2022 Shaftsbury Boulevard had a Spooktacular Halloween on Friday! Our children and staff were encouraged to come dressed in their favourite or spookest costumes! 11.01.2022 Walking Rainbow! The water appears to defy gravity, but in reality, it moves because of a process called capillary action. Water is able to move against the force of gravity because water molecules stick to each other AND they stick to the fibers of the paper towel. Try and see if your rainbow walks!

06.01.2022 We started off our Australia Day celebration by going back in time and explaining to the children that before the first ship arrived to Australia, the first people to walk on this land were Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islander people. We showed our respect by acknowledging and showing respect for all people and the land which we learn and play. Each room enjoyed this special day by taking in part in Australia themed arts and craft activities and delicious traditional Australian cooking experiences. We read many stories about everything that Australia has to offer. We wish you all a safe and Happy Australia Day.

05.01.2022 Liquid Density The liquid you thought was more dense should be at the bottom of the jar. The next dense matter will float on top of the previous one, and the least dense matter will float at the very top. Now you know how the densities of the three liquids compare to each other. If you want to find out the approximate density of each, you can calculate it using this formula: Density = Mass/Volume.

02.01.2022 Dear families, As you know we are waiting on more detailed information from the State and Federal Governments about the impact of Stage 4 restrictions on our centre. We expect to know more tomorrow but in the meantime heres some information on our plans. What is likely to happen this week: At this stage we plan to open as usual on Thursday and Friday for eligible children Once we have more information on who will be permitted to send their children to our centre we will ...be in touch but if you believe your family is likely to be a permitted worker your child can attend as normal Here are a few things we can be sure of: If your child is not permitted to attend for the next 6 weeks your gap fees will be waived and all direct debit arrangements paused It will be important to keep your childs booking with us during this time as it ensures we still receive Government funding so that we can pay wages and be ready to welcome your family when the restrictions are lifted We will apply for more absences for your child if you are concerned will exceed the current 42 days of CCS allowable absences From Monday 10th August (unless we are instructed by the government to do otherwise): We will be accepting children from permitted workers and those who need extra support at this time Our strict hygiene rules including temperature checks and foyer drop-off and pick-ups will continue Our centre team will offer remote learning for children who are not able to attend the centre with educator time being offered on-line and even more home learning resources being made available through Goodstart@Home Thanks again for your continuing support during this difficult and uncertain time. 01.01.2022 Shaftsbury Boulevard had an amazing day celebrating our book week for 2020. This year the Children’s Book week theme was Curious Creatures, Wild Minds. WOW! We had a wonderful day in our beautiful costumes exploring and engaging in some reading of our favourite books. Thank you everyone for participating!
