24.01.2022 'Oh no we missed Day 3 hope you all picked you your copy! Somewhere in Australia' is today's Great Australian Storybook Collection book! Join the little joey and many more familiar animals in this lovely Australian counting book based on the classic rhyme Over in the Meadow. You can further extend on this with your children by asking which animals they may have seen at a zoo? Explore how the zoo habitats may be the same or different as the habitats described in the book, and why zoos try to mimic the natural habitat of the animals in their care as much as possible. #KidsBookCollection

23.01.2022 A great way of explaining emotions and what we, as adults, can do more of to support our children

23.01.2022 This week we have said many goodbyes to children and families who have been at our centre for many years and a short time! We wish all the children who have had their last days with us the very best as they embark on their new journey to school. You will be missed- please come and visit soon

23.01.2022 Hands up who loves unicorns? Today is the launch of the Great Australian Storybook Collection and Thelma the Unicorn is the star! Head out to your local newsagent or IGA to grab your newspaper and free copy of the book, along with a free Collector Case to kick-start your collection! In the meantime, here's a little bit about Thelma... Thelma dreams of being a glamorous unicorn. Then in a rare pink and glitter-filled moment of fate (we're sure it's environmentally friendly gli...tter of course), Thelma's wish comes true. She rises to instant international stardom, but at an unexpected cost. Tip for families You can bring the story to life at home and encourage conversation about self-love by reading the book together and exploring with your child about what makes them special. Maybe they might want to draw pictures of the things they enjoy or are good at? For more info about the collection visit https://www.goodstart.org.au/storybook #KidsBookCollection

21.01.2022 Dear families, Following the State Government’s announcement that a six-day lockdown will begin at midnight tonight, I wanted to provide you with some further information. Our centre will remain open for children of essential workers and those in vulnerable circumstances. For children who can attend, please be assured we have maintained the highest level of hygiene since the beginning of the pandemic, and further strengthened these measures as community transmission was ident...ified this week. This has included two-hourly touchpoint cleaning, health and wellness checks and limiting the number of non-staff adults within the centre. These measures will stay in place over the coming weeks. We also know that during uncertain times, routines and familiar faces are really important for children. We have and will continue to provide the best possible learning and care for all children in our centre. For those of you unable to attend or do not wish to send your child to care you can access our online learning platform Goodstart@home which is packed with fun, play-based learning activities. To sign up for free email [email protected] We know this week has been increasingly concerning for families but please be assured that we are here to help. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me to discuss the above. As always, I am here to help and answer any questions you may have. Kind regards The Team at Salisbury North

15.01.2022 This is an image weve come across that simply explains the latest advice from the Prime Minister around Australias response to COVID-19. We just wanted to reassure you that our centre is open and we will continue to provide an essential service to our children and families. Goodstart is well prepared and has been planning around COVID-19 since early January.... 13.01.2022 Christmas is a time for giving We understand that this time of year can also bring additional stress, sadness and pressure for some families. Being kind to others is a simple way we can brighten someones day. You can purchase an additional coffee for the next person on your usual morning run, donate grocery items to a local shelter, or simply say hello/smile to a stranger. What are some ways you give back at Christmas? We would love for you to comment. Kindness adds to the magic of Christmas

12.01.2022 It’s Dental Hygiene Week this week (3 9 August), so we’ve created some fun activities you can do with your toddlers to encourage them to brush their teeth on our Goodstart@Home website. These activities are easy to do and a great way to support the development and understanding of dental hygiene and teeth brushing techniques. This year’s Dental Hygiene Week theme is all about sugar and ‘How much sugar is hiding is your trolley?’ We’d like to encourage families to be mindful... of hidden sugars in food. Making healthy choices at the supermarket extends to making similar smart food and drink choices at home. Early childhood tooth decay can affect your child’s health and cause pain, making it hard for your child to sleep, eat or speak. It can also affect your child’s ability to concentrate and learn. Children who develop dental decay at an early age are more likely to suffer from it throughout childhood. To find out more about Dental Health Week visit the ADA’s Your Dental Health website: https://www.ada.org.au/tips

12.01.2022 What is National Reconciliation Week? National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The dates for NRW remain the same each year - 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. ...Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We invite you to join in the learning about National Reconciliation Week at home through Goodstart@Home which is free for Goodstart families. Listen and learn from the stories and activities on the site. Take a moment to explore how you can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia: athome.goodstart.org.au YouTube link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtRHtCa6GZ8

12.01.2022 Today's book has been a big hit with one of our Goodstart families! 'Excuse Me!' is the tale of Martha May who has marvelous manners. She always says please and thank you... and she most certainly DOES NOT FART! But what happens on the day of the Baked Bean Bonanza?

10.01.2022 Did anyone manage to grab their copy of The Man from Snowy River today? This is an iconic Australian story that can be explored further with your children in a few ways. You might want to use it as an opportunity to talk openly and honestly about our true history with your children - colonisation and Australia's First Peoples. You may also want to enrich your conversation around diversity by exploring how your family originally came to Australia, and discuss how Australia is made up of people from many different backgrounds.

03.01.2022 Great initiative from Goodstart

03.01.2022 The year before school is so important for young children. It’s where they learn the skills to develop the confidence they need to make a smooth transition to school. At Goodstart the Kindergarten program is evidence based and is specifically designed for children aged 3-5 years. The curriculum is based on the Early Years Learning Framework, which is delivered by degree-qualified Early Childhood Teachers. This program nurtures children’s collaboration, communication, creativi...ty and critical thinking skills. Our approach gives your child the full benefits of a daily learning program while you are supported with the longer care hours we provide. That means your child gets the best start to their schooling, while you juggle the day-to-day demands of life. Find out more at: www.goodstart.org.au/kindergarten-sa
