24.01.2022 Creating clay artworks inspired by the Dreamtime story ‘The Echidna and the shade tree’ and other native animals

22.01.2022 Today at Tillys Waratah 2, our children and Educators came together, meeting in our front yard to participate in Remembrance Day. Some of the children from each age group were given the opportunity to position the three flags we display each day at half mast. At 11am we had a minute silence while we listened to The Last Post. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

14.01.2022 Last week at Tillys Rutherford we had a fabulous time dressing up in our pyjamas all week ! The children and educators wore their pjs, slippers, oodies and dressing gowns to raise awareness for childhood asthma. We collected a gold coin donation to support Asthma Australia and are proud to have raised $126.00. Throughout the week during our intentional teaching experiences, we discussed with the children the importance of sleep and rest for our bodies and also talked about our bed time routines and what we like to do before we go to sleep. It was such a fun week for all that we are planning another pyjama week in August.

14.01.2022 On Monday at Waratah 1, the children in the butterfly room had a fun time exploring with Educator Loris. Loris mixed food colouring and water in an ice block tray and popped it in the freezer. Once it was frozen, she bought the ice cubes outdoor to do some painting. The children enjoyed the cold sensation on their finger tips as they moved the ice across their paper. This experience is particularly beneficial to infants as it helps them to explore sensations of cold, wet and slippery, as well textures, cause and effect, and colour mixing. As the children grasped their paint popsicles, they were further developing their fine motor skills and muscle control to paint strokes, lines and swipes across their paper. They each created some sensational masterpieces in their outdoor art studio.

11.01.2022 GASTRO ALERT Increased rates of gastro are being reported in NSW child care centres this month. NSW Health have issued an alert to child care centres, the ...key points are: Gastroenteritis outbreak notifications have increased in childcare centres across NSW Alert staff to be vigilant for symptoms of gastroenteritis in children Reinforce basic hygiene measures, such as regular hand washing, to prevent the spread of infection Exclude sick children and staff for at least 48 hours after their last symptoms The two most important things you can do if your child has gastro to break the chain and stop the spread are: WASH YOUR (and everyone in your household) HANDS FREQUENTLY with soap and water! KEEP your child home for 48 hours AFTER their last vomit and/or diarrhoea (typically diarrhoea will go on for longer than the vomiting). Why? Because your child can still be shedding the virus after the symptoms stop! We get it, it can be so hard, especially if you are a working parent. But it is key to stop the spread! Remember, always seek medical advice if you are concerned about your child. 10.01.2022 Happy 1st Birthday Tillys Fern Bay!

09.01.2022 At our Waratah 2 centre, they have continuing on their journey on embedding the Aboriginal pedagogy framework into everyday curriculum play spaces. This has been a wonderful journey on educators and children learning together. During NAIDOC the educators have been participating in daily professional training that they are implementing into their daily practices. We aim to teach our children, educators and families about the importance of respect, compassion, understanding, c...ultural awareness and relationship building with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. We recognise that children’s connection to their community is essential to their sense of belonging, and that our centre plays a key role in cultivating relationships within the wider community. Our service has a daily Acknowledgement to Country and participates in raising the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags. All children are also given the opportunity to participate in the yarning circles. This is implemented from the nursery rooms where they come together, all the way up to our preschool rooms where they have wonderful discussions on how we can help the Awabakal people - example looking after the people, animals and land etc. They have also been learning the Awabakal words from exploring the storybook Where is the water written by Aboriginal Students from Newcastle High School. In our preschool rooms, we have strongly embedded a lot of Awabakal language and an awareness in Indigenous injustices, so we have continued to learn about different Aboriginal people and achievements through a variety of methods highlighting fairness, injustices and advocacy. One of the books that was read through the week was Finding our Heart written by Thomas Mayor. This book is so beautifully written and we have never come across another book that explains such a complex issue in a way that young children can really grasp! On Friday the Preschool rooms participated in a zoom session with Aunty Fay Muir as she read and explained her two books. We recognise that children’s connection to their community is essential to their sense of belonging, and that our centre plays a key role in cultivating relationships within the wider community. 07.01.2022 During the 27th May - 3rd June at Tillys Rutherford we celebrated National Reconciliation Week. All of our age groups engaged in learning experiences to reflect the theme More than a word. Reconciliation takes action. The nursery rooms enjoyed participating in a yarning circle and exploring the garden looking for bush tucker. The Preschool rooms showed great team work by working together to create some aboriginal inspired artworks. Our team members purchased indigenous shirts to wear throughout the week and show our commitment to embedding and respecting ATSI perspectives into our daily programs. This is an ongoing goal for our centre at Tillys Rutherford and we are proud to be on Wonnarua land

01.01.2022 Today at Waratah 2 we made our water play in the sunshine even more fun by adding some corn flour to make goop. The children loved mixing the water and cornflour with their hands and feet to make it change texture. At the end of this wonderful messy play experience we ran under the hose to wash it all off.
