25.01.2022 The Department of Health and Victoria’s Chief Health Officer are urging parents and carers to keep young children at home if they are unwell, after a rise in ou...tbreaks of viral gastroenteritis (also known as gastro) in childcare centres. Viral gastroenteritis is highly infectious. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, abdominal pain, headache and muscle aches. Symptoms can take up to three days to develop and usually last between one or two days, sometimes longer. Infants or children in childcare or school, as well as staff, who develop vomiting or diarrhoea should stay at home until at least 48 hours after their symptoms have stopped, as they will still be infectious. If symptoms are severe or they persist, or you are concerned, please visit your local GP for advice and possible testing. As we are currently seeing high numbers of Emergency Department (ED) presentations and long wait times at the RCH, we recommend attending your local GP if care is required, as your child will be seen quicker. Anyone recovering from gastroenteritis should avoid visiting hospitals, childcare centres and aged care facilities to avoid spreading the infection to those most vulnerable. Any person living in a household with someone who has gastroenteritis should also refrain from visiting these high-risk facilities until at least 48 hours after the last person in the household has recovered. To learn more about gastroenteritis, view our RCH Kids Health Information fact sheet here: https://bit.ly/3l2CD86

25.01.2022 Equal opportunity isn’t just important when we reach school. It needs to start from childhood. We need to close the gaps created by cost and access barriers, so... all Australian children have an equal opportunity to benefit from two years of early learning and develop the skills they need to succeed. Watch Dr Stacey Fox explain why at our National Press Club campaign launch.

23.01.2022 Help us achieve our goal & make a difference in young peoples lives. Goodstart are getting behind the good Friday Appeal, as a state we have set the goal to raise $100,000 for a retinal camera for the Royal Children Hospital Ophthalmology Department. The camera is used to check the health of the interior surface at the back of the eye, and the updated technology will allow for earlier diagnosis and improved management of life threatening eye disease in children.... Please feel free to share this post on your page.

20.01.2022 Last week we launched a special partnership with BW Tribal to provide all 16,000 of our Goodstart team with a free Goodstart NAIDOC shirt. Melody Ingra, Goodstart’s Cultural Liaison said the initiative was about enabling all Goodstart employees to connect with this year’s theme of ‘Heal Country’. Our teams can choose from three beautifully designed shirts created by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists Kiya Watt, Joel Sam and Leah Brideson, each with their own un...ique story. We take seriously our responsibility to ensure the next generation of Australians grow up with connection to and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, people and our true history. By wearing our shirts across more than 670 communities nationally, we hope to spark many conversations ahead of and during National NAIDOC Week with each other, our children and our families. #NAIDOC https://www.goodstart.org.au//goodstarters-to-proudly-%E2% See more

19.01.2022 Hands up who loves unicorns? Today is the launch of the Great Australian Storybook Collection and Thelma the Unicorn is the star! Head out to your local newsage...nt or IGA to grab your newspaper and free copy of the book, along with a free Collector Case to kick-start your collection! In the meantime, here's a little bit about Thelma... Thelma dreams of being a glamorous unicorn. Then in a rare pink and glitter-filled moment of fate (we're sure it's environmentally friendly glitter of course), Thelma's wish comes true. She rises to instant international stardom, but at an unexpected cost. Tip for families You can bring the story to life at home and encourage conversation about self-love by reading the book together and exploring with your child about what makes them special. Maybe they might want to draw pictures of the things they enjoy or are good at? For more info about the collection visit https://www.goodstart.org.au/storybook #KidsBookCollection

18.01.2022 As some of you may know or have seen at the desk a couple of the mothers from our centre have their own business of hand made gifts, so if you were stuck for mother's day ideas or just feel like making a purchase for youself they have candles, melts and diffusers that can be ordered as well as hampers (see attached flyer). This year 10% of all sales will be donated to the ACCF (Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation) as it has effected them personally.

16.01.2022 During these uncertain times we want to reassure you that we are open, safe and ready to welcome all our current and new families. As Australia's largest provider of early learning and care with 665 centres we are here to support in every community, in every state across Australia.

15.01.2022 Goodstart Families! Just wanted to clarify with you that the 'free childcare' package announced by Government today absolutely includes ALL Goodstart centres. If your child is enrolled in one of our centres and you are still working, studying or searching for work you will be able to send your child for free from Monday 6 April. We know you probably have lots of questions, and your Centre Director will share more tomorrow once we understand the finer details of how it all works.

15.01.2022 You may have noticed some new artwork in the foyer. We recently received this canvas. With reconciliation week approaching I thought I'd share the meaning behind the piece. This was painted by Cyndy Newman, a Wiradjuri woman of Condobolin in New South Wales and a former Goodstart centre director, the artwork expresses the journey that we are taking to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within our services and communities. Each of the symbols is significant... to the creation of the artwork, as explained by Cyndy: The circles symbolise meeting places, people coming together for discussions and decision making. The hands symbolise the children, the early education industry in which we are dedicated to make a better place for. The foot prints symbolise the steps we are taking to create, design and acknowledge the importance of having a Reconciliation Action Plan in place. The path symbolises the most important path we will learn to take during this adventure. I would like to think that this path will never end, there is always room for improvement and the journey that we take will always be a learning curve and a piece of history that is being etched into the history of the RAP and Goodstart. When I was invited to be a part of the RAP and create the art piece that would be used in all communications, the first thing that popped into my head were the Goodstart colours. To me they are inviting, mesmerising and cheerful. Each dot was painted with respect, in total there are over 4,030 dots. See more

03.01.2022 Hi Goodstart families! As you know the Government announced today that the 'free childcare' package will expire on 12 July and that the CCS system will return f...rom 13 July, along with new transition measures (up until October) to support the sector and parents as they move back to the subsidy. This announcement is a little bit complex so we are working hard to understand what this means for our families and for Goodstart. We will provide an update to our centres and our families later today and over the coming days as we learn more. #5weekstogo! See more
