21.01.2022 Mikaela Miller is a mural painter, community arts facilitator and printmaker, and a new studio tenant at Goolugatup Heathcote. I'm always challenging myself, always pushing the boundaries, and I say yes to a lot of jobs probably more than I should. I'm just a really curious person and everything is an opportunity to try something new, meet someone, explore a new place, and learn about new stories. I find it hard to pass up any chance to do these things. Full interview with Mikaela on our website as part of Questions with Creatives, a new series profiling Goolugatup artists. 17.01.2022 Laetitia Wilson produced a catalogue essay for Erin Coates' exhibition 'Alluvial Gold'. "Through monstrous, surreal and grotesque, it becomes palpable that in 'Alluvial Gold' the Swan River is so deeply interconnected with whatever is within, above and upon it. Coates' hybridisation of different species makes evident, we cannot separate ourselves from the rest of the world, we are not independent but utterly reliant and have an impact on our environment, the plants, gasses a...nd creatures within it. There's an undeniably transference of matter between the things of the Earth and Coates makes this manifest in a curious, confronting and utterly engaging series of works." Pick up a free catalogue in the Gallery for the full essay! Image: Erin Coates, Alluvium, 2020, HD video with stereo sound, 9 minutes and 30 seconds. Filming, props, editing: Erin Coates Composition: Stuart James Percussion: Louise Devenish Scuba Filming: Jasper Silver Freediving filming assistants: Tanya Lee and Gareth Wood
