23.01.2022 THE STEAM RANGER - ADELAIDE HILLS TO GOOLWA A rare sight of the Steam Ranger making it's way through the Adelaide Hills between Strathalbyn and Mount Barker. T...he Steam Ranger was originally based at Dry Creek, an industrial suburb in the northern suburbs of Adelaide. The Southern Encounter operated from Adelaide instead of Mount Barker, including six tunnels through the Mount Lofty Ranges. Special services were also operated to other places on the South Australian broad gauge network including Burra, Nuriootpa in the Barossa. If you've never been for a ride on this fantastic train trip back in time, then put it on the agenda for 2019! Travelling from Mount Barker to Goolwa and then Victor Harbor, it's a great day out! Also the cockle train from Goolwa is worth a look. Need images of South Australia for your marketing? Download Stock Photos of South Australia www.stockoz.com www.stockimageaustralia.com

21.01.2022 HORSESHOE BAY AERIAL VIEW Print this stunning photo www.urbangaragecollection.com/desktop-wallpaper Horseshoe Bay was proclaimed a port in 1851, and the settlem...ent above the bay was named Port Elliot in 1852 after Charles Elliot, the Governor of Bermuda who was a friend of the then Governor of South Australia, Sir Henry Young. The location had been previously known as Freeman's Knob; the aboriginal name for the area was "Witengangool" Freemans Nob was used as a lookout post for shore-base bay whaling stations in Encounter Bay in the late 1830s. The port was established to provide a safe seaport for the Murray river trade which terminated at Goolwa as the Murray Mouth was deemed too treacherous and unpredictable for safe navigation. Goods and passengers were carried between Goolwa and Port Elliot on the first public railway in Australia completed in 1854.
