24.01.2022 Happy new year everyone. I made it back to Victoria eventually, albeit delayed. But my first job is to see if I can rally some of you to volunteer in 2021. So, I’m looking for people to volunteer 2 hours a week at the community house, just 2 hours would be helpful to keep things operating and allow us to get some things happening again. We are open Tuesday to Friday. There is always help needed maintaining the lawns and gardens, we have a mower lol. Or perhaps on Thursday for lunch as I’d like to kick that off again ASAP. Give me a call on 0400 690 233 or pop in next week.

21.01.2022 16 September 2020 Get set for bushfire season The Fire Danger Period is fast approaching, so Wellington Shire Council is reminding landowners that now is a critical time to prepare their properties for the months ahead. Inspections of private properties to ensure compliance with bushfire hazard reduction rules... ahead of the 2020/21 Fire Danger Period begin Wednesday 4 November and run till May. Landowners must reduce hazardous ground fuels by slashing grass, weeds and bracken, as well as removing undergrowth, fallen branches and tree cuttings. While pruning trees is good practice, removing whole trees without a permit is not allowed. It is also good practice to include tasks such as clearing leaf litter from gutters and sealing gaps in exterior walls. To assist with the clearing of properties, Council is offering no-fee green waste disposal (excluding commercial operators) at all landfills and transfer stations, during normal operating hours, throughout November. While many landowners would normally visit their blocks to conduct works, this may not be possible this year. Landowners who are unable to visit their property will be expected to engage local friends or family, or contractors to do the work. For details of contractors, search online or the Yellow Pages, or contact a garden centre in the shire or estate agent. Landowners must maintain their properties throughout the Fire Danger Period. In response to the difficulties created by the pandemic, Council will continue with a 28-day hazard-reduction compliance period, first introduced two years ago. Landowners are encouraged to ask their contractor to provide them with photographic evidence that work has been completed to their satisfaction and the correct block cleared. Where a property is identified as posing a fire risk, Council will serve each owner with a Fire Prevention Notice via posted mail. So, it is important that any change of address details are registered before November. Penalties of $1,652 per owner apply for failure to comply. For more information, visit www.wellington.vic.gov.au/fire or call Victorian Bushfire Information on 1800 240 667. -- Ends Media Contact: Gordon Knight (03) 5142 3291 or 0437 500 393 See more

20.01.2022 In our attempt to keep our community safe, the GCVH will remain closed to the public until it is deemed safe to reopen. Unfortunate this means we will not be doing our Thursday lunches for the moment. We will continue to offer Emergency Food Relief for families and individuals that are finding it difficult during this time. However, it will be by appointment only. Please be assured that we are only a phone call away, 5197 7264 or on my cell at 0400 690 233. We are here to s...upport you in any manner we can, eve n if it is just for a catch- up chat. I can offer to assist with grocery home delivery from Traralgon supermarkets. You can have your groceries delivered to my home and I will bring them out here where you can collect them with minimal contact. Frozen of fridge items will be kept in my fridge and freezers in the garage. Contact me (Lori) for the address. If anyone needs assistance in setting up an online shopping or click and collect account, you can also contact me, and we can make an appointment to set it up together. See more
19.01.2022 Can anyone recommend a decent mechanic for a service on my Toyota Aurion... nothing wrong with it just needs a service and my mechanic seems to have vanished.
19.01.2022 I know it is a bit early to be talking about Christmas, but I am hoping to get some interest happening and need to know if others would be interested in a Christmas decorating program to brighten up our area pf the world. My thought is, we could adorn the streets/roads around Gormandale with decorated wooden Christmas Trees. Now, if you have an aversion to Christmas and hate this time of year then thats fine, this will not be the project for you. But for many of us Christma...s is our favourite time of year. And considering what we are currently going through Id like to come up with a way singles, families, groups or clubs could do something to celebrate and cheer each other up. We have a great woodwork shed here and I am collecting wooden pallets right now. I have gotten a donation of some paint already, thanks to my son in law . So I will be looking for solar lights and decorations that can go outside. Let me know your thoughts, Id love to see our town shine at Chrissy. Thought Id post some ideas LOL See more

02.01.2022 PAY IT FORWARD TABLE GCH is happy to continue with this service as it has little to no contact. The food provided comes from a few donations and what we buy from local stores. We hope it has been of a help to you. Its not meant to replace your weekly shop but to help you if you are running short and it saves you a trip into town. ... If you need more assistance with food than is offered at the table, please contact me as we do have more resources within the house. (Frozen meals and groceries). We here at GCH are trying our best to reduce your risk of contracting COVID 19. So, if or when you are doing shopping for yourself, you may like to grab an extra can or packet of something to add to the table. Every items helps and may be of a benefit to one of your neighbours or a friend. This is where the saying,"We are all in this together", really means something. Personally, I am very proud to be involved with a community that cares about each other as you do.
