25.01.2022 "Finish at the finish." Seems simple enough to do, right? In a race or event, this absolutely makes sense but he also used to say this during almost every training session. Whether it was an easy recovery run or a hard interval session, 'finish at the finish' still rings true. Just like you cant imagine stopping your race 100 metres before the finish line, nor should you imagine this during training. We are creatures of habit and by finishing actually at the finish and not before, we are looking to create a positive habit that is reinforced in each and every session, not just when the coach is looking. Here is the link to this latest GoRun blog: www.gorun.com.au/blog/wefalltothelevelofourtraining

25.01.2022 In Coach Chris' few short years of coaching recreational runners to achieve their goals, he can pick out a few key themes and messages that are likely to stand the test of time and outlast whatever the latest, hilarious marketing trends of the week are. One of those key messages is the importance of the mental side running, as opposed to the physical side. Nine times out of ten as runners and across the fitness industry, we look to measure and improve our physical side, wh...ether it be the distance that we run, the time that we do, the physical preparations we make, the weight loss we achieve, the physical injuries we sustain, the fancy new running gear that we wear. Whilst these are all important in their own way, and very real, these are not the full story. In fact they are probably about 20% of the story. In this blog we talk about the other 80% www.gorun.com.au/blog/8020ofrunning

24.01.2022 Comparison is the devil. Well, maybe that's a bit extreme, but I rarely find comparisons helpful in my line of work. As runners we seem to be obsessed with comparing ourselves to last weeks parkrun, our old training times, our fitness levels when we were 18 or even worse, other peoples weekly training ks or race times. We then get really frustrated when we cant beat those times or continue our running progression on a beautifully straight upward trajectory. Hey, Ive been there and now as a coach I see and hear this frustration A LOT. We talk about some of these in our latest blog. Read it here http://ow.ly/otMV50xZaFV

24.01.2022 NEW RUNNER STORY: TIM So many runners get injured through overtraining and have to then tread the delicate balance of coming back from injury, managing volume and intensity and also changing their mindset to their training. Tim Mcbride-Burgess was one of those runners who managed to navigate his way back and ended up surpassing all of his expectations both with his running but also his triathlon. Here is his story and some of the lessons that he learnt along the wa...y. Thanks to Tim for sharing this with us https://www.gorun.com.au/blog/runnerstorytim #runnerstories #GoRun #GoRunAustralia #running #Melbourne #backtorunning #triathlon

23.01.2022 Remember those photos of Barack Obama playing basketball when he was President? Impressive, right? So the interesting question is, WHY do CEOs and other leaders, with some of the most stressful, energy sapping and time consuming jobs on the planet, MAKE SURE that they prioritise exercise and find the time to run? We talk about the 3 main reasons why in our latest blog http://ow.ly/KRvc50xZb0g

19.01.2022 This week Coach Chris talks about one of the topics he seems to come back to often, which is environment. By environment I dont really mean climate change and planting trees, nor do I necessarily mean a high performance environment like high altitude training camps, this is more about the environments that we choose to train, socialise and are raised within. 06.01.2022 Our new realities as runners... I've tried to draft a blog a few times about the #coronavirus situation and how it affects us as #runners. It's never felt right and the context keeps changing up on me. This blog will be the first of a few and this particular one focuses on realising the new reality that we now face as runners and what we might do with that new reality. I must say a thank you to my good friend and fellow coach, Michael from Momentum Endurance Coaching for the chat about this a couple of days ago and sparking the initial idea for this blog. Stay safe, stay healthy! #NewReality #blog #running #melbourne #keepconsistent #health #staysafe

02.01.2022 We're all still Learning. Even the Coaches. Even coaches still benefit from being coached. Whilst they are busy sharing their knowledge with others and helping to structure their training, increase accountability and get results, they too, can do with help from time to time. There are coaches out there who are former athletes, there are coaches who have never been athletes and there are coaches like myself, who still have athletic ambitions. There are plenty of pros and cons to each situation, but no matter what a coaches' own personal experience in the sport, few coaches would claim that they know it all. In fact, if they do claim to know it all, I would say that they are deluded. Check it out the full blog here: www.gorun.com.au/blog/all-still-learning

02.01.2022 Races are back! Here's Coach Kylie's thoughts on her first post lockdown racing experience. https://www.gorun.com.au/blog/postlockdownracing

02.01.2022 Getting back into running is fraught with emotional hurdles that we have to overcome. Statistically those first 3-4 weeks are the hardest and where we have the most to endure both physically and mentally. Just look at the numbers of people that 'fall off the bandwagon' after New Years. It kills me every year seeing the numbers of runners slowly declining as we get into February, March and April. Surely we can break through this! So what can we do about this? We talk about a few key points in our latest blog http://ow.ly/KuBL50xZbvC

01.01.2022 NEW RUNNER STORY: SARAH (Sarah Lovison) Sarah has come back to running after a full ankle reconstruction and has continued to push her own boundaries in terms of distances, times and her own image of herself as a runner. A self-confessed and named Turtle, she loves the trails and the trail running community. In this blog she writes in her own words about her journey of taking up running, through to completing a marathon and tackling an ultra marathon in 2019. Thank ...you so much to Sarah for contributing this story. This one is for all the turtles out there https://www.gorun.com.au/blog/runnerstorysarah #trailrunning #marathon #ultramarathon #backtorunning #blog #GoRun #GoRunAustralia

01.01.2022 Runner Stories: Susan A few keen GoRun observers, will know the wonderfully witty Susan from parkrun Australia. As a Melbourne Rebels rugby tragic, business owner and self confessed terrible cyclist, she is a lot of fun to coach. Introducing her to running hard intervals, longer event distances and learning to pace her Albert Melbourne parkrun has been interesting to say the least Check out her running story, which she was kind enough to share, on the GoRun blog: https://www.gorun.com.au/blog/runnerstorysusan

01.01.2022 What does the perfect runner look like? I hear this question being discussed every so often in magazines, online forums or occasionally over coffee after our Saturday morning 5km parkrun. Particularly if you are relatively new to running, you might be interested and might even be in awe of those runners who seem to have the perfect build, legs, speed,or effortless look to them as they glide around the track or along the bike path. I see so many runners undermining themselves and their progress by comparing to supposedly perfect runners but, what do we even think a perfect' runner looks like? 01.01.2022 Our first blog for 2020 talks about recovery. One of the key components that is often overlooked. We asked the Physiotherapists at Port Melbourne Physio and Pilates, "If you could recommend anything in the first 24 hours after a race, long run or particularly hard training session to help recovery, what would it be?"
