24.01.2022 The video of the blast today. Range 10 will be a new practical range.

22.01.2022 Some photos of the construction of the range, some shooting competitions, social nights, fishing in the dam and much more. Enjoy.

21.01.2022 Some good news for us Victorian shooters!

20.01.2022 Range 10 progress: Today we conducted the first of two blasts to remove the granite & rock from range 10. Things went well, here are some before and after photos, and videos on the next post.

20.01.2022 Yarra Pistol Club would like to thank Membrey's Transport and Cranes for donating their cranes and trucks over the past two weekends. We had to move a few containers, unload steel trusses and lift them into place for our new range. We absolutely could not have done it without you! Our new range will benefit our club, our members and the community. We are so grateful for your generosity. I hope we can somehow repay part of the favour someday. I hope you enjoy these photos. https://www.facebook.com/MembreysTransportandCraneHire

19.01.2022 A quick update of what is happening at Yarra during lockdown! Range 10 is getting close! We have had a few problems along the way, but that is to be expected. We hit a spring and now have water flowing down the right hand side of the range. Oh well, it's a water feature!... We had to dig a huge trench to run the power to the range. We were quite pleased that we hadn't hit the stormwater pipes.............. until we did! All fixed now. We found a buried pair of gumboots in the trench, do any of the old members have something they want to confess? The lawn area and carparks are coming along, and we have a walking track and driving track from range 8 down to range 10. A major focus will be the new lawn area, along with another sitting area down near the dam and another at the end of range 10. We will be undertaking a huge planting program once we get out of COVID lockdowns. *We have lost quite a few trees over the past couple of weeks due to the wind. These have been cleaned up and stacked in the firewood pile. For the technical minded, I have attached some photos showing the brackets that hold down the containers. We welded some support brackets under each of the truss supports. We are building the baffles to install on range 10 under the roof. These will help to stop bullets leaving the range. Peter has converted range 8 to a construction area. We hope to have the range and all of the earthworks complete in about two weeks. I hope you enjoy the photos.

19.01.2022 Range 10 is progressing well. The range is finally excavated, the slabs have been poured and we have some rock on the range. We will soon get the containers and the portable classroom delivered. We have used some of the boulders and rocks in the landscaping, also to form the fire track down to the dam, and to stabilise the new carpark area. This rock also provides habitat. We have hit a spring and have water flowing onto the range, we can sort that out. The range is quite large and should be hosting IPSC, ICORE and SAS competitions in the near future.

18.01.2022 Today we moved one step closer to clearing range 10.

08.01.2022 And in slow motion.

03.01.2022 Some good news! LRD has halved the participation requirements for 2020. Good afternoon, In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Victorian Government issued Stage 3 restrictions for travel and movement throughout the state. Due to previous and current restrictions, the Licensing and Regulation Division (LRD) are aware that licence holders were not able to attend and participate at shooting clubs during this time and may have been unable to meet participation requirements.... As a result, the Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police has issued a variation of conditions for all general category handgun licence holders who possess handguns for target shooting by reducing the number of shoots required for 2020 by 50 per cent. This means that, effective immediately, annual participation requirements for general category handgun licence holders will be applied: Number of specified classes of handgun possessed, carried or used Total number of handgun target shoots or matches (or combination of both) required for the participation year 2020 Number of classes / Total number of target shoots or competitions required in 2020 is as follows. 1=5, 2=5, 3=6, 4=8. In addition to the above requirements, general category handgun licence holders must meet the following conditions: 1. The total number of shoots or matches must take place on at least 5 separate days; and 2. Of the reduced number of matches or shoots, that the holder of the general category handgun licence is required to participate in for the 2020 calendar year a. at least 3 must be approved handgun shooting matches; and b. at least 2 must be participated in for each specified class of handgun; c. participation may be either as a competitor, supervisor, competition judge or range officer but at least 3 must be participated in as a competitor. Attached is the Notice of Variation signed by the Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police, Shane Patton APM, for your reference. This variation will be automatically applied to all affected general category handgun licence holders, no application for modification is required. Individual licence holders may apply for further modification (beyond the 50 per cent now required for 2020) of these conditions by completing an application for modification or exemption to handgun participation conditions by the end of the year. We appreciate your patience and understanding during these times and ask that you please continue to refer to the Victoria Police website for updates regarding COVID-19 or email us if you have any questions. Further information on the COVID-19 restrictions can be found on the Department of Health and Human Services website. Kind regards, Licensing and Regulation Division Regulatory Services Department Victoria Police
