25.01.2022 We have had a win - our Alcock St bus stop in Maddington has been upgraded! The poor accessibility of the previous bus stop was raised with me by a local con...stituent. I wrote to the City of Gosnells, who contacted the Public Transport Authority and the issue was quickly resolved. A big thank you to the City of Gosnells and the Public Transport Authority and a great result for our community.

21.01.2022 It has been 16 days since Phase 3 came into effect here in WA and Western Australians have once again been outstanding. People have enjoyed the new freedoms, su...pported local businesses and continued to listen to health advice around physical distancing and good personal hygiene. Thanks to our relaxed restrictions, WA is already the most economically free and active State in Australia. And today I can announce that as of this Saturday, those restrictions will be easing even further. In line with expert health advice, Phase 4 will commence this Saturday 27 June. It will allow even more activities to recommence in WA, and continue to make our State the envy of the nation, and the world. But before I outline those changes, it's important to acknowledge that our hard border has been in place unashamedly to protect the health and well-being of Western Australians. It has allowed us to confidently ease restrictions more than any other State and open up our local economy. Having to reimpose restrictions in WA would be absolutely catastrophic. I won’t undo the good work of all Western Australians and rush to open the border against our health advice. As part of Phase 4, from Saturday, the follow changes will occur: All existing gathering limits and the 100/300 rule will be removed. Gathering limits will only be determined by WA’s reduced 2sqm capacity rule; The 2sqm rule will include staff only at venues that hold more than 500 patrons; Removal of seated service requirements at food businesses and licensed premises, meaning Western Australians can once again enjoy a beer while standing at a pub or bar; No requirement to maintain patron register at food businesses and licensed premises; All events will be permitted except for large scale, multi-stage music festivals; Unseated performances will be permitted at venues such as concert halls, live music venues, bars and pubs; Gyms can operate unstaffed, but regular cleaning must be maintained; and The casino gaming floor reopening under agreed temporary restrictions. For WA’s major sport and entertainment venues, a 50% capacity rule will apply. Therefore, under Phase 4 the temporary capacity of Optus Stadium will be 30,633 for sport events (35,000 for concerts), HBF Park can hold 10,150 (16,500 for concerts), RAC Arena can hold 7,150 (8,250 for concerts). Today we've also outlined Phase 5 of easing restrictions - which is expected to take effect on Saturday 18 July. Phase 5 will include removing ALL State restrictions except for the hard border with the eastern states and travel restrictions for remote Aboriginal communities. That will include the removal of the 2sqm rule and the 50% capacity rule for our major venues. This will be a significant moment for our State. Phase 4 is another giant step for WA we’re confident it’s the right step, at the right time. However, Western Australians must continue to keep up physical distancing where possible and good personal hygiene to better protect themselves and the general health of our community. We need to remain vigilant. We must take nothing for granted. We need to all understand that if you are unwell, don’t try be a hero and still go to work. It’s simply not worth it. Because if we have an uncontrolled outbreak, we will have to place restrictions back on. And I cannot be clearer on this I don’t want to even contemplate that scenario.

16.01.2022 Today we’ve announced the next phase of easing restrictions in Western Australia, which will take effect on Monday 18 May. As I’ve said almost every day during ...the pandemic, Western Australians have done an incredible job in stopping the spread of the virus - our performance has led the nation and indeed the world. Thanks to that hard work, and the measures we’ve been able to put in place, we are now ready to take the next step. Our performance has given us an opportunity to be bold as we move to further ease restrictions in WA. But as we move forward we must continue ensure every decision we make is based on the best of health advice. The new phase we’ve announced today will focus on encouraging many Western Australians to return to work, unless they are unwell or vulnerable, so the WA economy can further rebuild in a safe and measured way. Phase 2 will come into effect from Monday, 18 May, giving businesses and families time to plan accordingly and includes: - Indoor and outdoor non-work gatherings lifted to 20 people; - People are encouraged to return to work, unless they are unwell or vulnerable; - Cafés and restaurants can reopen with meal service (including within pubs, bars, clubs, hotels and casino), limited to 20 patrons and the 4 square metre per person capacity rule applied; - Weddings and funerals, limited to up to 20 attendees indoors or 30 outdoors; - Places of worship, community facilities and libraries to re-open, limited to 20 patrons; - Community sports (non-contact) limited to 20 people; - Outdoor or indoor fitness classes (minimal shared equipment) limited to 20 patrons; - Public swimming pools can open under strict rules (one indoor pool and one outdoor pool), limited to 20 patrons per pool. As part of Phase 2, regional travel restrictions will also change, bringing the number of current borders within WA from 13 to only four (not including the Commonwealth Biosecurity zone and remote communities). The new regional boundaries will allow: - Travel between the South West, Great Southern, Wheatbelt, Perth and Peel regions; - Travel between the Mid-West, Gascoyne and Pilbara regions (excluding Biosecurity area); - Travel within the Goldfields-Esperance region (excluding the Biosecurity area); - Travel permitted within the Kimberley Local Government areas (the Commonwealth’s Biosecurity area remains in place). If businesses or premises want to reopen they will be required to complete an official COVID Safety Plan. More details on this will be released shortly, in consultation with industry. Following this change, it is expected that Phase 3 will be implemented around four weeks from the commencement of Phase 2. Phase 3 will be finalised in the coming weeks, based on the advice from the Chief Health Officer, and will take into account the infection rates across WA. Today we’ve also released our roadmap for the easing of restrictions in Western Australia over the coming weeks and months. To see the roadmap and for more information on the upcoming changes, please visit www.wa.gov.au

15.01.2022 Our response to the COVID-19 pandemic has always been first and foremost about protecting the health and safety of Western Australians. We’ve followed the exper...t health advice, and for the last seven months, our hard border has kept Western Australia safe and strong. Today, in line with the latest advice from the Chief Health Officer, I can announce that WA will soon cautiously transition to a controlled interstate border. I’d like to take a moment of your time to run through what this means. Pending ongoing health advice, this change will take effect at 12:01am on Saturday 14 November. However, we will be closely monitoring the situation over east and if we need to delay this introduction of the controlled border, then we will. Also, I will have no hesitation to reintroduce our hard border in the future if that’s what’s needed to keep us safe. This hasn’t been an easy year for anyone. But for many Western Australians, the hard border has been particularly challenging. I’d like to thank everyone for their understanding and patience over these months particularly those who have been separated from their loved ones by the border. I know how hard it has been my own parents and brother live in New South Wales. It’s been extremely difficult not knowing when I will be able to see them again. Throughout the pandemic, we’ve maintained a cautious and careful approach based on WA’s expert health advice from the Chief Health Officer. That advice has served us well as we have embarked on our own, unique recovery. Today, based on that health advice and the rates of local infection in the eastern states, we are now at the next step of our journey. I want every Western Australian to know that we would not be proceeding down this path unless we had the health advice that it was safe to do so. The time is right, the conditions are right, and I’m confident our controlled border arrangement strikes the right balance. These are cautious, considered and careful steps. The existing hard border exemption system will be removed and replaced with the controlled interstate border regime, established on an updated nationwide health-based threshold that allows for safe travel into Western Australia from interstate with conditions, and subject to trigger points being met. The Chief Health Officer has recommended a 14-day rolling average of less than five community cases per day in each state and territory be required before progressing to the new border controls. This condition is currently being met. Under this system, travel from ‘very low risk’ states and territories will be permitted, with conditions on arrival including declarations, temperature tests and possible COVID-19 testing. These jurisdictions currently include Tasmania, Queensland, South Australia, Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory because they have had no community cases for more than 28 days. Travel from ‘low risk’ states and territories also permitted, with similar conditions on arrival, in addition to 14 days of self-quarantine and a mandatory Day 11 COVID-19 test. These jurisdictions currently include New South Wales and Victoria because they have less than five community cases per day on a 14-day rolling average. Failure to follow these directions or providing false information will be enforceable by law, with penalties ranging from $1,000 infringements, to up to $50,000 fines for individuals. These are safe, steady and sensible steps. But should the situation change once again, I will not hesitate to return to hard border arrangements if that is what is required to protect the health and safety of Western Australians. In the meantime, we need to continue to take personal responsibility. The virus hasn’t been defeated around the world we must work together to prevent outbreaks and not jeopardise what we’ve achieved so far. The controlled border still includes important and strong protections for our State, but within it we must also maintain our vigilance to keep our State safe and strong. All Western Australians must embrace COVID-safe principles. That means acting responsibly and following the health advice. Thank you again to all Western Australians for the sacrifices you have made this year. We’re the envy of the world for so many reasons. We have a long way to go, and many challenges still to face. But right now, there’s nowhere I’d rather be.

13.01.2022 We all know just how hard 2020 has been. Here in WA, our State is in the best possible position as we continue our strong recovery from COVID-19. But times are... still tough for many Western Australians, and there is always more work to do. At the start of the pandemic, to give everyone certainty, we rolled out a freeze on all household fees and charges. Today, as a result of our strong budget management over the last three years, we can now go one step further. Every household in Western Australia will receive a historic, one-off $600 Household Electricity Credit. The WA Household Electricity Credit will be automatically applied to every Synergy or Horizon Power residential account as of today. You will see it on your own bill in November and December. It'll mean WA families have a bit of extra money available in the lead up to Christmas. The $600 credit is fully funded through the recent Bell Group settlement, for the losses incurred in the Bell Group collapse in the early 1990s. It made sense that these funds go straight back to Western Australians. Especially in times like these, when people may need that bit of extra financial relief because of COVID-19. But I have a request: If this credit means you can spend some extra money, use it to support our local WA businesses. By spending local, you'll be helping to support WA jobs, support your fellow West Aussies, and keep WA safe and strong.
