24.01.2022 Nature joined us in celebrating International Children's Day! The rain provided opportunities for children to test out their curiousity and take risks in play. We observed children showcase their creativity and movement as they danced like nobody was watching. Some children who usually engage in solitary play, jumped in the fun with friends as they chased and splashed water onto each other. Some demonstrated courage moving out of their comfort zone and exposing their joy and laughter through spontaneous play. Jumping in muddy puddles gave so much input in children's senses. Most importantly, relationships were built and strengthened! What a joy it is for us as educators to behold the beauty in each of your children! We thank our dedicated staff for their love and care toward these children who deserve the best!

23.01.2022 Happy Friday indeed! Our Guya friends enjoyed the splash pad today. This activity gave so much sensory experience for them as well as provide opportunity for them to exercise their motor skills as they crawled, splashed, poured and practised walking. . Children also socialised with with their peers and educators. They didn't forget to say hi to their chicken friends. Have a lovely weekend Turtle School family and friends!

22.01.2022 OSHC's week has been filled with amazing spontaneous activities! Children practised their agency in choosing leisure activities they like to engage in. Educators were very supportive in responding to children's interests and as a result, children were empowered to share their voices in the development of the program. Some activities this week include: -fishing -learning to do the bamboo dance -building a river on the sand pit for children to swing on over... - making potions - making basil tea fresh using fresh ingredients from the garden See more

22.01.2022 Construction play was a hit today in OSHC! Children who participated collaborated well in their desired outcome. They demonstrated team work and were happy with their accomplishment. Other children engaged in painting, sensory play and free choice activities. In the yard, some children displayed resourcefulness in collecting items to use for their Fish soup pretend cooking. To sum up the day, children were well engaged as they played with peers!

20.01.2022 For the last three weeks, Mana room children had a strong focus on taking care of their belongings and respecting resources and the environment. Keeping the environment tidy and clean is part of this goal where the children have really enjoyed helping do the dishes. They displayed pride in their involvement and we appreciate their effort. During small group experiences children were able to connect and build positive social experiences. They discovered fair play, how to inclu...de friends and how to negotiate and come to compromises that are fair for everyone involved. They were also able to learn from their peers, transfer knowledge and experiment together scaffolding on their existing knowledge and self capabilities. We will continue to provide time, space and resources to encourage small group interactions and learning, so children can continue to develop positive social experiences and the skills necessary to engage positively with their peers and in the community.

18.01.2022 Djinytjalma children enjoyed the outdoors today as they engaged in planned activities. One is "I Spy" game where children's language development were enhanced as well as knowledge on colours. Another activity is "Spray painting" against the fence where children worked on their fine motor skills and expressed themselves through process art. This also provided opportunity to strengthen children's social skills as they practised turn taking. There is also sensory activity where children observed, investigated and did trial and error in their experiment.

16.01.2022 We are very proud of our Guya children for demonstrating increased spatial awareness and for orienting themselves, moving around and through their environments confidently and safely as they played with cars on the ramp. They also displayed confidence in walking on the balance beam. Some children engaged in sensory play where they scooped colourful Christmas balls from the tub.

15.01.2022 So much sensory input happening in Djinytjalma these past two days. Educators responded to children's interests by providing fun activities such as stomp painting, colour exploration and cars on the ramp activity. Children loved exploring with their senses and enjoyed the process of creating!

14.01.2022 Turtle School engaged children in a fun-filled week of Learning activities in observance of the NAIDOC WEEK with the theme "Always was, always will be". Children were provided opportunities to see hear, learn and embrace the history and culture of the National Aborigines and Islanders through different activities. Some of which are dot painting on leaves using twigs, hand painting on a branch of tree, older kids attempted some aboriginal painting on tree cuttings and manipula...ting play dough in aboriginal flag colours. They also read dreaming stories and sang aboriginal songs. We had a special treat from one of the children in OSHC teaching peers and educators aboriginal dance. Through these activities, children broadened their understanding of the world in which they live particularly learning about the Yolngu people of the Arnhem Land. Children had a great time exploring the diversity of culture, heritage, background and tradition of the National Aborigines and Islanders. See more

13.01.2022 Turtle school children and educators participated in the observance of Remembrance Day today! Children engaged in some art activities like painting a field of poppies using bottle caps. They also observed a minute of silence to honour and commemorate all those who died in the war.

06.01.2022 One of the parent input we have received for Djinytjalma is "learning about colours". This has also been the children's interest. Today, educators prepared an experiment involving colours. Children took part by adding baking soda and drop of different food colouring on a platter. Each food colour was identified by the children before they put it on the baking soda. After that each had a turn puoring vinegar on the mixture. Everyone was so surprised to see the chemical reaction. Children shouted "bubbles!!!" To elevate their experience, baking soda was frozen overnight with a bit of water and children had a great time doing the experiment independently and observing the bubbles in their individual cups. Children were so delighted!

03.01.2022 Guya children love sensory play! Today they explored coloured goop. Educators added some spoons for children to practise their scooping skills as they are working on encouraging self-help skills like self feeding. Children had so much fun exploring with their senses. We offer Guya children a lot of sensory play because of the the many benefits of this play experience including language development, scientific thinking and problem solving skills, motor development and promote calmness. Guya children always have fun!

01.01.2022 A very fruitful day for our OSHC children! Some children tested their skills in climbing to see how high they could reach. This strengthened their confidence and risk-taking skills. One of the kids, got busy on the sandpit building a shelter. He demonstrated his resourcefulness and imagination as he gathered bamboos, rocks and a barrel to use. The educator was impressed as he was only asked to help in tying the bamboo. Another child had been working on a story for a few days now and completed the story with illustration today. They celebrated his achievement as they listened to his story. Inside the room, children engaged in creative activities where they expressed their ideas through painting and drawing. We are very proud of our OSHC children's enthusiasm and love of learning!
