24.01.2022 SOLD! I loved making this big painting, it almost danced onto the canvas! Its one of my favourites, and apparently it gathered some fans. Though I am slightly r...egretful that it has set off on its travels from the The Convent Daylesford, I hope it makes its new owner as happy as I felt when I was creating it. See more

22.01.2022 ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A SPACE TO SELL ART? The answer may lie in a characterful, country setting in historic Linton. The Haddon-Smythesdale-Linton area is increa...singly a hub and destination for people who like to get out of town and find something special to see or experience, whether it is art studios, cafes, a walk on the rail trail, a visit to a Nintingbool Winery, the amazing Avalon plant nursery, or local antiques shops. Adjacent to the Known World Bookshop in Linton, there is a large, light-filled studio space available to rent. Images are attached below. During the recent Lola Festival, this attractive space was used for the townships art exhibition, and musical events. Hanging rails are installed. If you are interested, please respond to us here or drop in to the bookshop and have a word with Michelle.

21.01.2022 A very early photograph of the Pitfield Hotel (Emu Inn) and Baird family store at Pitfield. When Victoria was officially settled in 1835, Governor Bourke instru...cted that the area around Melbourne and Port Phillip was to surveyed, the land was to be divided into parishes each covering about 25 square miles. On the survey map would be shown existing and proposed roads and a sectiongenerally a square mile would be left for a village reserve. The township of Pitfield was reserved as a village reserve (2 miles by one mile) on the existing settlement on the road from Geelong to the Southern Wimmera where it crossed the Woady Yaloak River within the Parish of Mindai. A large brick inn (Emu Inn) was built at Pitfield on land owned by H. Stewart. It is supposed that Henry Stewart, licensed victualler who died on 24th October 1851 at Wardy Yaloak was the builder and owner. In December 1851 a Post Office commenced business with Steward Mathews as Post master and Pitfield now with a mail route, coaching service with stables and accommodation became a major stopping place on the journey to Portland. Although gold was discovered in the Springdallah Creek in earlier times it was officially discovered at Pitfield in 1855, and it is surmised that Pitfield was named after a gold escort officer. An Anglican school was opened in 1858. In 1865 Baillieres Victorian gazetteer described Pitfield as flat and agricultural, pastoral and mining. There were a post office and a hotel. The gold mining declined within about ten years and the school closed in 1872. In the 1890s there were new gold discoveries north-east of Pitfield at Cape Clear and south-east at Pitfield Plains. A school was opened at the Pitfield Plains Salvation Army hall in 1898. The Victorian municipal directory, 1899 described Pitfield Plains as a rapidly increasing mining area with 1000 people. Two new township popped up, Kaleno and Hollybush . By 1900 there were two district newspapers and a third one combined with Rokewood. Most community amenities were at Pitfield, 5 km north-west.
