25.01.2022 For the sun, every morning is a beautiful spectacle and yet most of the audience still sleep ~ John Lennon This image can be read in so many ways... what do you see?

25.01.2022 How much do we need to live a happy life? Do we need as much stuff as we think we do? Aparigrapha is a Sanskrit term that means 'non-greediness' and helps us think mindfully about our possessions. This quote from Fight Club always stuck in my mind "the things you own, end up owning you". The message that I take is: can we live more simply. ... It also reminds me of the lyrics from the song 'Oh No!' by Marina where she says "If you are not very careful, your possessions will possess you." Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with possessions... A house full of tools and supplies lets you create. Kitchen tools help you cook. Living rooms full of furniture let you entertain and welcome guests. A yard full of toys provides hours of fun. So the message here is not to live with no possessions... The concept here is more about clinging to possessions or taking more than we need. We live in a time where consumerism is glorified.. influencers on social media convincing us what we need to be happy and the constant push to purchase more things. Do we build more storage shelves, hire storage spaces, buy bigger houses just to put more stuff in? Or perhaps we just don't need as much as we think we need? Do a mental scan of your home, take each room at a time and perhaps think about what it is you actually need... ...can we live with less but with greater happiness?

25.01.2022 Khalil Gibran, a famous Lebanese poet, artist and philosopher says "You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself, that you truly give." I felt the power of this statement on Sunday morning during my We Support Lebanon Fundraiser. Not only did my beautiful community give financially to the cause, but they gave of their time, their presence and willingness to be moved by the Lebanese people and culture. It reminds me of the famous ...Prayer of Peace by St Francis of Assisi where he says "It is in giving that we receive". One of my most favourite prayers - words to live by universally. When we give to others, we receive so much and the rewards cant always been seen by the eye, but in the heart. Thank you for being part of this community. I appreciate you all so much. I sold 49 tickets to the class and raised $890USD (which converts to $1247AUD) which I donated to the Lebanese Red Cross yesterday. In what way has someone given of themselves to you? Their time, their energy, love, patience, kindness... And in what way have you given yourself to someone else through your time, love, energy, kindness? How can you be an instrument of giving to those around you?

24.01.2022 How are you today? Busy! How often do you reply to small talk with I’ve been so busy or something of the like? ... Since lockdown has been over here in Melbourne, everything seems to be on full speed again. Racing around from one place to another and getting on the roller skates of life again Are we addicted to speed? Addicted to the adrenalin that being busy gives us? Yoga helps us slow down. It gives us an opportunity to put the brakes on. To give us permission to be still. The opposite of busy! Have you made time to be still today? To take some deep breaths in the busy-ness of your day?

24.01.2022 You should not be practicing to have a ‘good’ practice, but instead to keep steadiness within yourself ~ Sharath Jois Yoga helps to keep me steady in body and mind. When I feel like I’m lacking direction, yoga brings me back to my centre where my inner most strength and wisdom lies.

23.01.2022 Today, I noticed a boy (who is usually very challenging) in my class trying super hard with a task. It took me a moment, but I noticed it. I was super impressed and told him so in front of the class and you could see his face light up. How did you express joy to someone else today?

23.01.2022 Tonight’s practice. Sped up Had so much built up negative energy I needed to release and it was the perfect release tonight. Thinking of my fellow Victorians during this challenging time

23.01.2022 Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realise that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge ~ Eckhart Tolle Yoga for me is about creating space to listen deeply to what is happening on the inside. When we can pause, listen and go within... we can gain greater clarity on the direction of our life... what drives us, excites us and what wakes us up every morning. ... Wake up to a 10am online Vinyasa class with me Monday morning. Your first class is on me. https://www.yogawithgrace.com.au/classes/

23.01.2022 Habits can sometimes inhibit us from seeing our world in another light. As we begin a new year, it’s always a good time to reflect on our habits, rituals and routines and how we can improve on them. What small micro-habits can you start to instill into your daily life to make some life-long changes? ... It doesn’t need to be an exhaustive list of changes. One small change that’s done consistently can change your world. It creates new habits that can help you see things from another perspective. Do you see yourself as the driver of your life? Or the passenger? A driver sees the world as an endless opportunity to learn, create and explore. A passenger sits in for the ride and lets the world decide for them. Which one are you? Or are you a bit of both? There’s a delicate balance between taking control and relinquishing it. A driver can drive too fast. A passenger can become complacent. Can we find a way to drive but also know when to be guided? Some thoughts for the start of 2021 perhaps as you perhaps begin to write some goals and intentions What do you think?

23.01.2022 A luxurious practice today for a chilled out Sunday morning

22.01.2022 Something to ponder as we approach the end of the year... Can you take time to pause and reflect on this question. Is the world happier because you’re in it? ... Will the world be happier for having you pass through it? listen closely to what’s inside. Are your thoughts, words and actions in harmony? Do they bring joy and love to others?

22.01.2022 Asatoma satgamaya Tamasoma jyotir gamaya Mrityormaamritam gamaya Om, shanti shanti shanti ... Lead me from the unreal to the real Lead me from darkness to the light From the earth to the open skies Lead from death to eternal life Om, peace peace peace

21.01.2022 Here in Melbourne, it was announced last night that we are in lockdown with even tighter restrictions for another 6 weeks. I have few words as I take it all in. But I do want to say that "I got you" and we "got each other"... I am here for you if you need a chat, vent or virtual hug. And I know so many of you have reached out to me and asked how I am doing also and I so appreciate that. And I am so grateful I can be there for you to serve you. When I hear so many that a... yoga session is just what they needed, I am so grateful that I do what I do. It is a challenging time in the world right now and for some it is harder than others. It is important we stay united on that front - we got each other. Lets stay motivated together. Keep up your movement, meditation, nature walks... Thats what keeps me going What keeps you going?

21.01.2022 Yoga-ing my way into 2021... mindfully, accepting what is not in my control. I focus on what I can control. My mantra for 2021. How are you intending to enter 2021? ... Have you got a mantra?

21.01.2022 Have yourself a Mindful Merry Christmas

20.01.2022 Sometimes all we need is some good old fashion sunshine ... And handstands of course!

20.01.2022 How often do we rely on external factors to bring us joy? Think about your 5 senses and how often we are stimulated by them. After all, it's how we obtain information - through our eyes, ears, tongue, skin and nose. Now what if you removed as much stimulation of your senses as possible - like sitting alone, closing the eyes, in silence, no music, no guided words spoken. ... Just you alone, with your breath. What happens? We have to face our thoughts. The ebb and flow of what makes us happy, uncomfortable, at ease, angry... whatever it is. We must face ourselves. As we are. We delve deep into calm and the storm of our mind. Connecting to the internal world, helps us rely less on the external world. We begin to find joy and contentment deep within us that can't help but radiate to those around us. And when asked "what's your super power?", you can't help but reply "I have found my sixth sense".

20.01.2022 Some much needed fresh air, sun, tree hugs and yoga play

20.01.2022 I did it!! I’ve been super nervous about going to the dark side on the @feetup but I worked up the courage, used progressions against the wall and managed to do it!! Hubby also spotted me the first time in the middle of the room. He really supports me when I’m freaking out. Thank you ... I was talking to the kids at school today about the value of being persistent and how learning comes from our struggles. Falling and getting up again. I had to prove to myself that I teach what I believe

20.01.2022 You may have heard me talk this week about a sad loss in my family. My dear Uncle in Lebanon, who I was very close to died suddenly and has left my family lost for words and just devastated. To top it off, I havent been able to head to Sydney to be with my family and grieve with them due to border restrictions. It really broke my heart and left me speechless for days. I have been thinking about my Uncle and the incredible man that he was and the legacy he has left behi...nd. He was a man of great integrity. He was authentic, honest and real. He was so hospitable and would welcome so many to share a meal with him and spoke to everyone who passed by his workplace. He was a mechanic and was well known in the area. A very humble, simple man but a huge heart. His funeral was flooded with people who knew him and had their own story to tell of how kind and loving he was to them. I ask the question...what legacy am I leaving behind? What legacy are you leaving behind? We all know we are not immortal (in our physical body) and when we leave this earth, what will others say about us? I remember Michael Jackson (yes, I am a huge fan) say that he wanted to achieve so much in his life to help others because he wanted to be immortal with his legacy. I think its so powerful to think that way...how our service to others can live on forever... It made me think about the legacy my uncle has left behind him, a local man, who lived a humble life. We dont need to be a celebrity to touch the lives of others. We touch them in our home... our workplace...our friendships and the strangers we meet...in real life and on social media. Can you think of someone in your life who embodies qualities that you value and cherish? Do you embody those qualities yourself right now in the way you live your life? Will I see you in my online classes this week? Monday 10am for Vinyasa. Wednesday night 7:30pm for Yin Saturday 8:30am for Prenatal Yoga Also, remember your first class is now free... just book in via the website https://www.yogawithgrace.com.au/classes/ And I have launched my 5 Days with Grace Program - 5 classes...15 minutes each for only $7...crazy cheap. I think thats maybe 2 coffees?? Thanks to all those who have already grabbed their own copy! It felt so good to offer something so well received by my community, thank you. https://www.yogawithgrace.com.au/5days/ Thank you for your ongoing support. And please reach out if you want to get to my classes but are experiencing some financial hardship...I am always here to support you through those times :) Much love, Grace

20.01.2022 We could be the healin When youre feeling all alone We could be the reason To find the strength to carry on... In a world thats so divided We shall overcome... - Michael Franti YOU COULD BE THE HEALING. YOU could be the reason that someone else finds the strength to carry on. This has been a challenging year for so many. Im so grateful to my amazing family, friends and community who have reached out in so many different ways. WE, YOU, I... could be the healing for someone else. Thank you for being you and being here and opening your hearts to me and allowing me to be part of your lives. As much as you say I help you through yoga, its time you knew how much YOU help me. Thank you my yoga family

20.01.2022 Love my new leggings - unique design and high waist. They stayed up the entire time. I have paid so much for leggings and they don’t always sit well. These were so good! 20.01.2022 We interrupt this yoga practice to brush my son’s teeth

19.01.2022 Haven’t felt this strong in a while. Felt great doing koundinyasana today. This posture is translated to mean flying splits. It takes strength in the shoulders, balance in the body, shifting body weight and also flexibility in the hips and legs. Have you challenged yourself today?

19.01.2022 The year 2020 is officially almost drawing to a close. This year has been a mixed bag. At times, enjoying the quiet pace, other times feeling trapped and unable to see the light in sight. We all have something to say about this year and one thing I think it has done is provided us an opportunity to gain perspective. Perspective on what is important to us and what values we hold dear to our hearts. Not being able to cross the border to NSW and visit home has been difficu...lt (and I know many of you share this same challenge), losing my dear uncle and not being able to grieve with family was a challenging experience. I did love the slower pace, the time with my husband and children and the opportunity to home educate all 3 kids at once. It was fun, albeit hard work! One BIG thing I am thankful for this year is YOU and this amazing community. Some of you have blown me away with your consistent yoga practice all year and have managed to find space, no matter how challenging, to stay focused on your health and keep moving. I am so grateful to this community and I want to thank you for being part of it. There is a verse in the sacred Hindu text, the Bhagavad Gita that reads "However humble the offering, be it a leaf, a flower, fruit, or water, if it is made with love and devotion, I will accept it" (Ch 9. v.26) This verse is so timely as we are now in the Christmas season of giving and receiving and there can be a lot of focus on gifts. Sometimes we can get caught up in getting elaborate or expensive gifts. In this verse it is the Lord Krishna who says secret of showing your gratitude is to offer something that comes from love, be it a leaf, a flower, fruit or a glass of water. What can be a greater offering to someone than offering your love? A small gesture of kindness is remembered forever. So my small offering to you are these words of thanks and I would like to share this free 15 minute yin sequence I have on YouTube Channel. It's a favourite and very timely now as we approach a new year. It is called 'Letting Go of What is Weighing you Down'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8oaqhNZ6sc&t=28s Each day is a day to make resolutions, create good habits, release those that don't serve us anymore.... I hope you enjoy this flow and I wish you all a wonderful Christmas. Much love, Love Grace Ps. My last classes for the year are happening this week! Last vinyasa, yin and prenatal yoga class is this week if you'd like to join me live or take home a recording

19.01.2022 Fear during labour can cause the body to come into a state of alert which can trigger the sympathetic nervous system, creating the flight or fight response. This response causes the body and mind to feel like its in an emergency situation even if you are not in any threat or emergency. In the prenatal yoga sessions with me, we look at ways to deal with fear and ways we can respond in labour to help settle the nervous system. ... When we use tools like the breath, motion, meditation and sound, we can create a calming response in the body for a state of balance and harmony. This is the beautiful quality of the parasympathetic nervous system Join me ONLINE Saturday mornings for prenatal yoga at 8:30am

19.01.2022 My longest hold in pincha (forearm balance) yet. Its funny how progress happens. We practice daily (and for years!) and can sometimes feel like we are getting nowhere. Or we just dont notice the small steps we are taking and then one day... boom ... We just do it. Just like that. And then you go wow, I did it...... And then shortly after, you say... ok whats next.. what can I tackle next? Humans are funny like that are we ever satisfied?

19.01.2022 Like a silkworm weaving her house with love from her marrow, and dying in her body's threads ... winding tight, round and round, I burn desiring what the heart desires. Cut through, O Lord, my heart's greed, and show me your way out. O Lord, white as jasmine. by Akka Mahadevi

18.01.2022 An anchor is a means of creating a lasting imprint or signal through an association with a gesture, sound, image or touch. The thought or suggestion is said to be anchored into the memory of the subconscious. ~ HypnoBirthing By Marie Mongan. Anchors can be a powerful tool for pregnant women in preparing for birth. ... An anchor I often use in my prenatal classes is hand on heart and hand on belly. It is a reminder to connect to breath. To find space to relax and go deeper within... ...which calms the nervous system, allowing the body and mind to unite and tune inward. Join me Saturday mornings at 8:30am for online prenatal yoga. $15 a class and if you cant make it that time, we can send you the recording. 18.01.2022 Are you holding on or letting go? The polarities in the yoga practice remind me of the energetic push and pull that we experience every day. Should I take that job? ... Should I stay in this relationship? Should I move house? We experience this push and pull in our lives and the question I ask is - which way should we go? The yoga practice has an incredible balance of the two. In camel pose (pictured), I’m pressing down into the floor with my knees, engaging the inner thighs and working hard to stay down. But I’m also extending my spine to open up and reach my sternum upwards away from the floor It doesn’t have to be an either/or situation. A healthy balance is perhaps the way... Notice the push. Notice the pull. Observe it deeply. Do we cling? Or do we accept and release? Or do we do both... ground down and lift up equally? There is freedom in the polarity. What do you think?

17.01.2022 All living things desire two main things in life: 1. To be happy. 2. To avoid suffering. One reason I believe there is conflict in the world is because we see ourselves as separate to each other. ... Is it possible to care about another’s happiness as much as we care about our own? And I don’t just mean the happiness of our family and friends, but what about the random person on the street, or the annoying person you encounter at the shops or the person who cuts you off while driving... Can we care equally about their happiness as our own? After all, living is just as important to them as it is to you. Can we then apply this to all living things? And not just our pets.. but all animals. Do you believe they also desire happiness and want to avoid suffering, just like you?

17.01.2022 Something to remember during the Christmas season. Give someone the gift of your presence and cherish those moments for a lifetime

17.01.2022 When you see a yoga pose and it makes you go wow!, often times it has taken a long time, often years, to be able to get to that stage in a posture. Challenging yoga postures have never come easy to me. Ive had to work really hard to get there and I continue to do so. And then when you get there, you think ok, Im here... now what? ... Humans are funny like that. We have a goal, we get there and we want more. The thing is, Im enjoying every stage of the progress. Struggling my way through a posture and working hard at it is so rewarding in and of itself. Can you love the look of the posture youre working on right now? Love exactly where you are at? Embrace it? Have fun with it?

17.01.2022 When the kids go to bed, mummy comes out to play

17.01.2022 The past is never dead. It’s not even past. - William Faulkner Carl Jung believes that what remains unconscious does not dissolve but rather resurfaces in our lives as fate or fortune. In other words, we’re likely to keep repeating our unconscious patterns until we bring them into light of awareness. Fragments of our blocked/suppressed life experiences (trauma) can show up in our words, gestures and behaviours. ... (excerpts from It Didn't Start With You' by Mark Wolynn) Yoga helps us go inward and observe those unconscious behaviours, words and actions. Learning to know yourself deeply is a tool you can use to dig deep into the abyss of what haunts you on an unconscious level. Recent scientific studies are revealing that yogic techniques such as visualisation and meditation are helping us heal trauma that we may be carrying whether it is unknown or unknown trauma. It makes me go back to this simple line... Healing is an inside job. It requires work. If we are willing to do the work, we can lead happier lives.

16.01.2022 Do you want to experience greater freedom in your body? Greater mobility in the hips and spine? Open up the spine & connect to your core?... lengthen the hamstrings & feel more grounded and connected? Im excited to share a 5 day with Grace program with you. 5 focused sessions with me. 15minutes each do the session anytime, anywhere on any device gain lifetime access and repeat the sessions as many times as you like! super affordable price For all the details, make your way here https://www.yogawithgrace.com.au/5days/

16.01.2022 Do you have a "soul friend"? One who has a deeply spiritiual and supportive presence in your life? Anam is the Gaelic word for soul and cara is the word for friend. So anam cara in the Celtic world was the soul friend. ... In the early Celtic church, a person who acted as a teacher, companion, or spiritual guide was called an anam cara. I am eternally grateful for my soul friends. The ones whose capacity to read my heart, to hold space for me and be a "compassionate presence" in my life. Do you have an anam cara in your life?

15.01.2022 Yoga has not only given me greater flexibility. But also a great deal of strength. Strength in my back, legs and shoulders. Yoga offers a beautiful balance of strength and flexibility. ... Then you start overcoming fear. Yoga has helped me overcome the fear of going backwards. When you have strength, you begin to trust yourself to overcome the challenges before you... Its a bit like life, dont you think? Has yoga helped you discover strength that you never thought you had?

15.01.2022 Time out Tuesday Imagine you could be content with everything you are, just as you are, right now... Can you smile deep down right now and say that you are fully content with your body, your physical features, your wrinkles, your weight, height, what you own, what you don't own, your home, your family, your job?... Often we can think the grass is greener...or that more needs to be done before we can be content. Like "once I get this, or that, I will be happy" or "once I do this or that", I will be happy. This mantra 'As I am' is a gentle reminder that we are perfectly imperfect as we are and with a calm acceptance, we can learn self-love and love of others on a deeper level. With this quiet mantra of acceptance, we learn to accept our present life and a natural evolution takes place with awareness and contentment. Sit comfortably, focusing on your breath and repeat the mantra 'As I am' to yourself internally for as long as you need. 15.01.2022 I can't tell you how excited I am to share my new online program with you. It has been months in the making and it is finally ready to be shared! YAY!! The Program is called 'Birth with Connection' and the concept of the program was conceived (like my pun?) when I was teaching prenatal yoga online throughout lockdown this year. I always knew I wanted to create a prenatal yoga online course but I gained clarity and inspiration for the program when I connected to such amaz...ing women in the weekly yoga sessions online this year. For me, it is not about encouraging women to have the "perfect" birth (whatever that means to you), but more about empowering women to connect to their pregnancy and birth through proven tools and techniques in order to make informed choices, feel empowered and delve deep into the sensations of labour with love, joy and surrender. So Birth with Connection is all about connecting to body, mind, breath and baby, of course! And because Black Friday is the time for sales, I thought what better time to launch the program. I am offering a limited time discount for the launch of Birth with Connection. I am offering a 30% discount on this program for 3 days only. And if you think it isn't useful to you because you're not pregnant, think of friends who are pregnant and this could just make the perfect gift! If you'd like to know more about the Program and grab your discount offer, head over here: https://www.yogawithgrace.com.au/birth/ Enter code: BLACK30 at checkout to grab your 30% discount offer (expires: Monday 30 November at 11:59pm And to add to the Black Friday discount fun.... If you have been sitting on the fence about getting my 5 Days with Grace or 7 Days with Grace Online Program (these are perfect for busy people), I am offering a 24 hour ONLY, 30% discount for these two programs. That literally brings my 5 Days Program down to $4.90 (can you still get a cup a coffee for this price?!). Enter code: BLACK30 at checkout. This offer expires exactly at 11:59pm on Sunday 29th November. Link to all my programs are here https://www.yogawithgrace.com.au/programs/

15.01.2022 Dr Wayne Dyer tells a story of when he was at a conference and brought an orange on stage and asked a 12 year old boy this question... "If I were to squeeze this orange as hard I could, what would come out?" He looked at me like I was a little crazy and said, "Juice, of course."... I replied, "Do you think apple juice could come out of it?" "No!" he laughed "What about grapefruit juice?" "No!" "What would come out of it?" "Orange juice, of course." "Why? Why when you squeeze an orange does orange juice come out?" He may have been getting a little exasperated with me at this point. "Well, its an orange and thats whats inside." I nodded. "Lets assume that this orange isnt an orange, but its you. And someone squeezes you, puts pressure on you, says something you dont like, offends you. And out of you comes anger, hatred, bitterness, fear. Why? The answer, as the boy has told us, is because thats whats inside." Its one of the greatest lessons of life. What comes out when life squeezes you? When someone hurts or offends you? If anger, pain and fear come out of you, its because thats whats inside. It doesnt matter who does the squeezing - your mother, your brother, your children, your boss, the government. If someone says something about you that you dont like, what comes out of you is whats inside. And whats inside is up to you, its your choice. When someone puts the pressure on you and out of you comes anything other than love, its because thats what youve allowed to be inside. Once you take away all those negative things you dont want in your life and replace them with love, youll find yourself living a highly functioning life. What do you think of the message in this story? Can we change what is inside of us? For me, yoga helps you peel away the layers of the orange to find the love inside... and the layers may be a mess - anger, trauma, resentment etc... we are able to find that love within if we are willing to do the work. Was the love always there? Is it there with other stuff mixed in? What are your thoughts?

15.01.2022 I used to hate squats. True story. Now I enjoy the challenge of pushing my limits and my squats have improved so much. ... My teacher Eileen taught me this squat mobility sequence a few years ago. I hated it at first but now I can feel the benefits. Yoga teaches me so much about not giving up and also sticking with things even if you don’t enjoy it because before you know it, magic starts to happen. No hands. You can use a block under your seat if you find squatting challenging. Give it a go and share your attempts in the group! Is there a pose you thought you could never do and then one day you’re like - wow I can do it now!!!

15.01.2022 With so much uncertainty in the world right now, I felt this was a good reminder for myself. Especially being one who likes to plan ahead...I have had to relinquish control and accept the venture of the unknown. How about you?

14.01.2022 In the Ashtanga yoga world, the seventh series is known as the most challenging practice of all. Parenthood. Before I had children, I couldn’t fully grasp what this meant. But after having 3 children in 3.5 years, in 3 different cities, I have truly experienced and continue to experience the most challenging yoga practice of all. Motherhood and family life. I was interviewed by the Seventh Series Podcast and I talk about my three births, motherhood and yoga. ... If you’d like to have a listen: Click here https://seventhseries.net/s1e15-grace-joukhadar/ Repost by Seventh Series below: New episode LIVE S1E15 Grace Joukhadar A story of three pregnancies, three births in three cities! Grace has been practicing ashtanga yoga since 2003, and is a yoga teacher specialising in pre and post natal yoga, as well as mums and bubs classes. Grace is originally from Sydney, and spent time in the remote town of Port Hedland in Western Australia, before moving to Melbourne. Grace shared her three very different births, a hospital birth and home birth with long labors that were caesarian births, and her third birth being a vaginal birth after two caesarians VBAC or VBA2C. Grace also shared how she approaches motherhood and integrates yoga into her daily life as a mother, focusing on finding the calm in the chaos.

14.01.2022 Me: Mirror, mirror on the wall...who is the greatest of them all? Mirror: Why, you, of course Me: Mirror, mirror on the wall...who is the least of them all? Mirror: Why, you, of course... Wait, what?! Do you look at yourself and only see *you* reflected back? As though you are somehow separate to everyone else around you... Or do you see others reflected back at you? Our mirror is not only a reflection of us looking at ourselves, but also everyone else looking back. What does this mean exactly? One reason our world has so much conflict stems from the belief that we are separate to one another. As though my actions, my values, my culture, my country, my religion, my whatever... is better than another.... or simply that you are separate to me. But if we dig deeper, we would find far greater similarities than differences. When we truly believe what it means to see yourself reflected back at you, there leaves little room for judgement, hate jealousy, anger, resentment or feeling like a victim of another persons words or actions. In fairy tales we are taught about the good guys and the bad guys. My daughter asked me just the other day if "bad people were real?". Its a very simplistic view to think there are bad people and good people and we just happen to be good. Instead of seeing another as our enemy, could we reocgnise the hurt that we experience as a reflection of qualities within ourselves? This then provides an opportunity to really see yourself and ultimately grow as a person. When we recognise that we are no different to the person beside us, we make room for forgiveness, love, peace, understanding and even gratitude. We have been hurt. But we are capable of hurting others. A wrongful action has been made towards us. But we are capable of wrongful actions. Thich Nhat Hanh says that our family members and friends are like our mirrors. With humility and openness we can make use of the mirrors that are held up to us. When we see an action in our friend, can you recognise that action within yourself? Whether it is a desirable one or not. The qualities you most admire in others are your own qualities and the same goes for those qualities you dislike. And often others reflect parts of you that you ignore and dont want to see. Everything and everyone is your mirror. How often do you confront your own weaknesses? Do you use the mirrors around you to check-in with yourself regularly? To grow in love and humility, look within and say... "Mirror mirror on the wall... what can I learn today?" Grace

14.01.2022 This is me all over. How do you see the world?

13.01.2022 This is the best day of my life! These are the words my 5 year old daughter says to me daily (well, most days). When she’s enjoying something, even the simplest things, she says with the most sincere, honest enthusiasm, this is the best day of my life!! ... I told her the other day Aliyah, you say this every day. And she responded that’s because every day is so fun, mum. She has a natural zest and joy that comes from deep within her soul. Always smiling. Caring for others. Kind and compassionate. Little does she know that she is the one who makes my days the best days of my life! Can we approach each day as though it was the best day of our lives?

13.01.2022 What gives us meaning in life is often our identity. It helps us place ourselves in the world around us. The word identity comes from the Latin words 'essentitas' (being) and identidem (repeatedly) so our identity is defined as "repeated beingness". Identity gives us a sense of meaning and understanding of who we are (or who we think we are). We give ourselves and others labels to help define us and gain clarity on our roles and purpose in life. And we repeatedly tell ...ourselves that this is who we are and soon we believe that we can't be anything else but how we have defined ourselves. I am a mother, a wife, a teacher, a yogi... I give myself these labels when someone asks me who I am or what I do. And how often do we meet someone and one of the first questions we ask are "What do you do? What's your job? Are you married?" In yoga teachings, this is called Asmita, which can be translated as Egoism or 'I-am-ness' But is this really who we are? This is who we think we are... ...we are much more than these labels. If we dig deep and strip away all these labels down to our very core, who would you say you are?

12.01.2022 Some days this is yoga. Listening to the inside. Resting. Taking time to care for yourself without pushing. ... There are seasons of yoga. Theyre not wrong. Theyre just different. Some seasons we need to slow down. Some seasons are more intense. Today, its a rest day for me. What does your rest day look like?

12.01.2022 What has this year been like for you? What lessons have you taken away? I was thinking how this year has forced us all to put the Habits of Mind to good use. Have you heard of them before? They're 16 life-related skills that equip us to be strategic, think thoughtfully and have positive outcomes. ... So many of them came to mind when I think about the year that has been been and how it has been an opportunity to work on being resilient and to think flexibly; for adults and children alike! One good thing that happened this year is that I spent a lot more time with my children and husband at home and enjoyed the slower pace while home schooling all 3 kids at once (putting my teacher skills to good use!). I loved the bike rides, nature walks and the slow mornings without having to rush or be anywhere. Making home-cooked warm lunches for everyone together is one to remember. I am proud of the resilience my kids have shown this year and it has given us all a deep sense of gratitude for life, family and friends and connected us to our inner values. How about you? What are you proud of? What is one good thing that happened in 2020?

12.01.2022 What does this quote mean to you? Do we find joy for the sake of joy? No other gain? Is the purpose of our life to blossom for the simple joy of blossoming...? ... Can we simply BE JOY just for the purpose of JOY and no other motive or gain. What kind of joy is real joy? This quote makes me think of dharma (life path or purpose)... 09.01.2022 When we are faced with change, we can resist it, accept it...or take it a step further and embrace change. Where are you right now on this spectrum? For me, the last few days I have felt completely deflated as I know some of you have also. I gave myself a few days off strong asana practice and just allowed myself to experience the ebb and flow of my internal churning. To listen deeply inside and gave myself permission to just BE. I have had this email in my mind all wee...k to write, but just didnt have the joy in me to do so. This afternoon, I feel a little more recharged. I have decided not only to have the courage to keep going, but to embrace the situation once again. It takes courage to move with things that are not in our control. I write to you at a time where here in Melbourne, we are starting another 6 weeks of lockdown and remote learning for schools is commencing once again. I love home-schooling my kids. I love having them all with me. I also struggle with it and find I need space to breathe and find silence (which is virtually impossible here!) and work on my personal goals. I also am unable to work (school teaching) as schools once again arent in need of relief teaching so we have a loss of income. At a time where we need to accept the things we cannot change, I am reminded of the Habits of Mind - specifically the Thinking Flexibly Habit of Mind. The amazing thing about the human brain is its plasticity - it has the ability to "rewire", change and even repair itself. Thinking flexibly means we are in control - we have the capacity to change and adapt with new information and circumstances. We draw upon a range of problem solving strategies to be able to be flexible in our approach. The most incredible thing about the brain is that it isnt just the mind that is flexible and changes, but in fact the physical architecture of the brain itself adapts to new information and creates new neural pathways based on what a person sees, hears, touches, thinks about etc...Isnt that just incredible?! Do you have the courage to accept...perhaps, embrace the things you cannot change? If youre finding it hard to get motivated or wanting to try a class with me but havent found the space to do it yet... please accept this invitation for your first class ON ME... yep, new students, now is your chance to try your first class free. 07.01.2022 This time 11 years ago, I was in India for a month to deepen my yoga practice. As a mum of 3 now, I realise how luxurious it was to go away for a month and not have any responsibilities to worry about except a job to return home to! Some of the highlights of that trip:... spending a month with two amazing friends, Alyson and Sam encountering cows, dogs, goats on the local streets having a session with a Vedic Astrologer living simply, out of a suitcase with only what I need my bucket showers, taught me so much gratitude for my comforts back in Australia having my own rickshaw driver, Appu who always made us laugh spending a month focusing on my yoga practice reading the epic book Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts from start to finish visiting Goa and exploring the beach and old Catholic Churches completing a 10 hour anatomy and kinesiology course with Noah McKenna visiting Vellore and seeing the Golden Temple, catching up with Edo & Jo, meeting Ben Lee and Iona Skye the day after their marriage visiting Swamiji on Chamundi Hill (his home is a tiny cave! talk about simple living) vegetarian food was the norm Overall, it was a time to pause, meet new people, strengthen friendships, reflect, go inward, look outward and evolve as a person.

07.01.2022 The only real wisdom is knowing you know nothing - Socrates The older I get the more I realise how little I know. No matter how long I’ve practiced yoga, I am deeply humbled by the practice. The more I learn, the more I realise how much more there is to know. When I first started Ashtanga yoga, I remember being amazed at the strength and abilities of the practitioners. ... One advanced student responded to my compliments with, oh gosh I’m still just a beginner! Even though he had been practicing for years. I didn’t understand it at the time. But now I get it. The practice is humbling. You get one pose. And there’s always one you can’t do. It keeps us real and keeps me connected to why I do the practice. Not to perfect the pose. But to try and perfect myself, as a person.

07.01.2022 Reach up...ground down. Go inward. Discover God. Be alone. Serve others. ... The paradox of yoga.

05.01.2022 Have you seen the film 'Into the Wild'? I have always fantasized about selling all my possessions, living without attachment and going on an inward journey through an exploration of the world and living with the poor. When I watched this film back in 1996, it really touched me and this is one of the quotes shared in the story (I won't spoil the ending if you haven't seen it). ... It is that happiness is only real, when shared. Living away from home now for almost 10 years makes this quote really come alive for me. I have loved living in Western Australia (5 years) and Victoria (now over 4 years) and it has been one of self-growth and evolution. One thing it has taught me is that despite my desire for introversion, happiness is one I love to share with others, particularly those who I love deeply. What do you think of this quote? Does it speak to you?

Life as we knew it, has changed. Shifted. When all our worldly comforts are on hold, we ask ourselves -what we are destined for? Lockdown 2020, has forced many to start looking more deeply within instead of without. When these comforts are taken away, we begin to journey on the inside. When we strip everything away... we cant travel or be distracted by the worlds pleasures... what do we have left? Ourselves. Your Self. We must look within and see what we are destined for. 03.01.2022 Yesterday a bird came into our house. It snuck into to my bedroom and then the kids bedroom and was there for ages. I hardly had the doors open, so I have no idea when it snuck in! I discovered it in my kids room and it was trying to get out. Finally with the wisdom of my friend Jenni, I turned the house lights off (lucky it was dark) and put the outdoor lights on. It finally worked its way out the front door after it navigated its way to the lounge room. My husband told m...e that perhaps the bird could be a symbol of something. Feeling trapped freedomit also left behind a little omen this feather. The fact the bird came in so quietly and made its way inside to the bedrooms and then found it so challenging to get outI wonder if its saying hey, things are tough right now and youre feeling trapped its hard to get out. But change is coming and a way out isnt far awayHang in there Thank you for the message, sweet bird! I hope youre out there roaming happy and free after your visit into our home. You have reminded me to be present, strong and hopeful.

02.01.2022 We could be the healin' When you're feeling all alone We could be the reason To find the strength to carry on... 02.01.2022 11 years ago, I handed over 27, 540 rupees (which was equivalent to about $900 AUD) to the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute (as it was called) in Mysore to study there for a month. After a month, I hopped on a Tigerair flight to return home to Sydney. The flight was so squishy and uncomfortable and this is a reflection I wrote on the plane: After investing a month in creating space in my heart, mind and body, it seems it’s all been put into perspective as I sit on this pla...ne heading home. Our interaction with the outside world never ceases. Life is a constant interplay of going inward and outward. There’s a rhythmic motion that we sway between the two zones - receiving and giving; looking within us, reaching outside of us. We need to be receptive, adaptive and patient to keep that interplay fluid and avoid self-absorption or excessive giving without looking inward. Yoga assists you in finding that balance. Helping you to know yourself and allowing you to reach out to others more effectively. Yoga is a teacher, a sibling, a lover and a sometimes can feel like an enemy. The inward effects of what, from the outside appears to be an outward, physical practice is one with endless hidden treasures. A practitioner of yoga never ceases to be a student. Yoga is not an isolated physical practice. The asana (postures) are a gateway to treasures to be discovered each day in a lifetime and beyond.

02.01.2022 Do you listen to understand or listen to respond? Silence can be a sign of attentive listening. When someone speaks are you already working out what your reply will be? Or are you listening to understand. Can you listen for the purpose of listening, without your own voice being heard?
