17.01.2022 PUBLIC STATEMENT To our APSL Branch Members, our Kurilpa Kitchen clients, Supporters, Hirers of Kurilpa Hall and members of the public regretfully we will ceas...e our activities at 174 Boundary Street, West End as from mid-night (12.00am) Thursday March 26, 2020. Following the advice announced this morning by the office of the Prime Minister, all activities associated with 174 Boundary Street, West End will cease as from tomorrow due to circumstances beyond our control. I believe as a Management Committee team this is the ONLY decision we can come to as we cannot flaunt advice from the Government. The discussion and ultimately the decision is out of our hands. I have been in constant communication with our staff and had phone meetings with Anneliese; Debra and Craig as we adopted a day-to-day check on happenings. Our emergency take-away meal service finishes this afternoon. Every hall hirer has been notified of the decision to shut down services associated with face to face activities as have out Frail and Aged Kurilpa Kitchen Clients. Every branch in the State has shut down their activities but I would implore branches to check with their members and friends as often as is possible. (I think it's a quirky situation where we have worried about people shutting themselves away in social isolation and now we are forced to do just that). I believe that once this virus dissipates we will only be too happy to shake off the "Cabin Fever"! * MANAGEMENT MEETING - With regards to the Management Committee meeting in May it can be held It has been suggested that we look to installing a version of ZOOM or a similar programme. * STATE CONFERENCE Set down to be held in Gympie in early September. 1. Urgent consideration must be given to changing the date to later in the year which of course, all depends on the progress/elimination of this virus.(note below) 2. Decision regarding the revised date should be made at the May Management Committee meeting 3. An annual meeting has to be held as the organisation has to be audited. 4. Should the problems with the virus be persistent, perhaps a Zoom type conference can be held and if the limit is of say which I have been told with representatives from other branches should be invited to join in the Zoom conference. 5. However, I believe that an early November conference may be possible. As with most uncertainties, I can only offer these as suggestions. Your opinions would be appreciated but please put them in writing. None of us have a crystal ball and no one can predict the future. * PETITION since the inclusion in the national SENIOR newspaper our office has sent out numerous petition forms to every state excepting the NT. A woman in WA wants to start up an APSL organisation! Gaining signatures is still ongoing with no closing date at the moment.. * THE COMET - WILL be published with the latest updates, Photos and branch updates. Keep sending in contributions if you have crochet a knee rug / done some craft - send us some pics. WE ARE TEMPORARILY SHUTTING DOWN. We will be back bigger than ever! CONTACT - we will still be contactable on our office number 07 3844 5878 which will be re-directed to our mobile phone number and general office duties will be carried out. Emails. Office [email protected]; The Comet - [email protected] Secretary - [email protected] Mobile 0432 295 344 Regards to all - please stay safe and well. Please take notice of the regulations to prevent the spread of the Corona Virus. We need you all back with us safe and sound. Cherith Weis State Secretary Wednesday, March 25, 2020
17.01.2022 Members of the APSL Management Committee had planned to meet in Brisbane from Tuesday August 4 to August 7 for a number of important meetings. We had not met in... Brisbane since early February and as the COVID19 situation appeared to be diminishing several weeks ago we felt that it was about time we checked out our premises (which has seen some more improvements) and it would be an excellent opportunity to meet up with our staff, some new and also welcome some new volunteers to our fold. With the State Conference delayed now until early November, plans have been underway to see it come to fruition. However, because of three individuals who defied COVID19 regulations, we have had to cancel travel arrangements which of course have been paid...accommodation which also had been paid for.....in-house meetings at our headquarters at West End, all of which have had to be cancelled. All of the members on the committee have a huge responsibility to our members; our clients of Kurilpa Kitchen and the community and are in that age group which COVID19 is a real and present danger to us. Arrangements have been made now to go back to what we have been doing....meeting by Zoom. Having been hearing on the TV News this morning about the upheaval in South East Queensland, the whole of the State of Queensland has been thrown into a spin because the deliberate deceitful actions of just three people. Deplorable. However, because of modern technology, we will carry on our APSL business in the hope that all Queenslanders will take notice of the Health advice issued so that we all may come out of this era where some people think that they don't have to heed rules and regulations in the State/country in which they live. This appalling behaviour has to stop. Should you be asked to wear masks, wear them. If you are directed into isolation, do it. See more

05.01.2022 Mount Morgan's President, Barry Hare addresses and welcomes guests on Thursday at the branch Christmas function at the School of Arts Hall. Seated are North Rockhampton reps Brian Barton and Pauline Jasperson. On behalf of the State body of APSL, I surprised Mount Morgan's Secretary, Pat Hare with a gift to honour her years of work for the Branch and their activities. Pat always decorates the tables so beautifully and it's said as soon as one Christmas Function is over, she's working on a theme for the following year. She must spend many hours on making all of the different Christmas decorations which always adorn the beautifully set tables. Well done, Pat. Well done, Barry. Thank you for your years of service!

02.01.2022 Some of you may be aware of the difficulties I’ve had obtaining footage from our wildlife hospital. This has been very frustrating. Anyway as you can see from ...below things may be starting to change. Impact on wildlife worsens. The impact of the recent bushfires has become clearer as rescue crews have been able to gain access to the affected areas. A further 11 koalas have come into RSPCA care over the weekend. Sadly not all of them make it through, said RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty. Some are already suffering from other issues and the fire and smoke exacerbate those. It’s very sad as in some areas the scale of the casualties will never be known because of the intensity and speed of the fires. Since the fires began, 43 animals, 29 of them koalas, have come into the RSPCA because of the fires. The Wildlife Hospital is already under siege because of the trauma season and the fires have merely escalated an already busy period. This is always our busiest time of year. It’s the mating and birthing season and more animals are on the move, which means we’re seeing more being hit by cars and attacked by dogs. Babies end up orphaned and they have to be examined at the hospital before going into care. With survivors continuing to be found at Toowoomba, Jimna and Mt Barney, more animals are expected in the coming days. The RSPCA’s Eumundi centre will be affected and it’s likely that Currumbin and Australia Zoo can also expect more fire victims as well.
