23.01.2022 Changing the clocks for daylight savings is also a great time to check that your smoke alarms are free of cobwebs, dust & are in good working order. Just like the picture - most alarms have a button, that will alarm briefly while pressed. If yours doesn’t it may need new batteries or replacing altogether. Working smoke alarms save lives - did you know humans are unable to smell smoke while sleeping? ... #FRNSW #checkyourclocks #checkyoursmokealarms

22.01.2022 The leading cause of home fires is unattended cooking. Don't add to this statistic. Stay in the kitchen while cooking and turn off the stove before you leave. #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire

21.01.2022 During the past week or so, we’ve had four calls, with 5 incidents, to assist our friends downriver at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 372 Maclean and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 510 Yamba for both BA Support* and to standby** at Maclean Firestation. *BA Support is our terminology - which means we take our Hazmat Tanker, which carries 16 full air cylinders, and swap out the empty cylinders with those who are fighting the fire. Grafton is classed as a refilling station so we then... bring the empty cylinders back to the station to be filled and ready to go. **Standby - for us this means that one of our Grafton trucks will head to a station that requires back-up support and be able to respond to incidents either in that area or on-route. #morethanfire #hazmat #crew306 #nswfireandrescue

20.01.2022 This week six crew members from 306 Grafton joined four Fire and Rescue NSW members from across northern NSW in a Remote Pilot Aircraft (RPAS) training course. This will enable licensed crew from Grafton Station to fly drones for incident management purposes, providing us an opportunity to r...each areas that may have otherwise been inaccessible. Capabilities - Camera Video Thermal Imaging LIDAR - Light Detection & Ranging They will be deployed for incidents including, but not limited to - Bushfires - Determining firefront location - Spotting over - Threats to structures within the fire path HAZMAT incidents - Assessing situations that may be hazardous to the health of a firefighter Seach & Rescue - During floods, using thermal imaging to locate people Natural Disasters -As a search tool to assess large areas From all accounts crew thoroughly enjoyed the experience and expressed gratitude for having been selected to participate in this new program. 18.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

16.01.2022 Today marks the beginning of Men’s Health Week, a week that focuses on the health impacts of men’s environments. Our people are our most important asset and the...ir mental and physical wellbeing is crucial to ensuring we are prepared for anything. This year Men’s Health Week highlights the importance of taking the time to have regular check-ups with a general practitioner and regular check-ins with your loved ones. Some of the work Fire and Rescue NSW is doing to support our people in this area includes the recruitment of Wellbeing Officers to support the roll out of mental health programs and enhancing our personal protective equipment to reduce our firefighters exposure to carcinogens. Tips from www.menshealthweek.org.au to manage your health: Be active in getting medical help if you don't feel well, have a problem that won't go away or notice unusual symptoms. It's OK to seek help - don't try to do everything on your own or bury problems. Talk to your partner, friends and workmates. Push hard to get the help you need to manage your life, work, family and financial needs. Partners - be proactive in helping your men and boys get the help they and you need. Use available hotlines, speak with professionals to get the best course of action and be persistent. Don't leave it too late to seek help. For more information visit: https://www.menshealthweek.org.au/

12.01.2022 Eleven people including nine children have suffered carbon monoxide poisoning after an open charcoal grill was used inside a house in Tasmania. Outdoor hea...ters belong outside for a reason. NEVER use outdoor heaters, barbecues, or charcoal pits inside your home. LPG, heat beads, and the like emit lethal carbon monoxide which can be fatal in a confined space. 11.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day - a reminder to take a moment and initiate a conversation with our family, friends and workmates and ask them ‘Are you ok?’. This years message is ‘There’s more to say after R U OK?’, but knowing what to say next can be the tricky part - so we’ve linked the R U OK? website, and added a few helpful screenshots from the R U OK? Facebook page. Please, if you are not ok, reach out to a trusted friend or relative.... www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask R U OK Day Ask Listen Encourage Action Check In

11.01.2022 This is our Karen. Stationed at busy Station 073 Yennora, our Karen doesn’t need to be told to wear her mask and the only video she is in at Bunnings is when sh...e is fundraising for the Firies Climb for Motor Neurone Disease and the only time she demands to speak to the manager is to compliment them. We love our Karen and all the wonderful Karen’s we serve in the community. See more

10.01.2022 Each year Fire and Rescue NSW opens station doors right across the state and invites the public in to have a first hand view. This year, things are a little different. Social distancing laws mean that we have to take extra precations to protect all of us and as such, visiting actual stations is not possible. BUT, since we are #preparedforanything Fire and Rescue NSW has brought open day to YOU via Facebook. You’ll see a number of our stations joining in with their own demon...strations and they are expected to continue for the coming week. Just go to the Fire and Rescue NSW Facebook page, sit back and relax. It’s that easy. Enjoy! #2020openday #fireandrescueopenday #firefighters #demonstration

10.01.2022 We were privileged to join both the dawn service and ANZAC Day march this morning in Grafton. We give thanks to those who fought for our freedom. #lestweforget

09.01.2022 AFTER FLOOD CLEAN UP DUTY Today crew from 306 were tasked to assisting with the clean up at the Grafton Rowing and Sailing Club sheds. Club members had already begun to tackle the mammoth task of shoveling mud out as flood waters receded, allowing crew to come in early today to hose every visible surface & get the sheds looking all fresh again. We had a media team from SBS News call in and have a chat to Firefighter Koppel which is expected to air at 6:30pm.... #FRNSW #graftonflooding #floodcleanup #morethanfire Fire & Rescue Regional North 2 Fire and Rescue NSW Clarence River Sailing Club Grafton Rowing Club

02.01.2022 30.04.21 16.10 REPORTS OF SHED FIRE Initial reports indicated a shed fire approximately 40km north of Grafton on the Summerland Way. Upon arrival smoke could be seen issuing from the property with a shed, house and multiple storage structures alight. Local RFS crew were already onscene and actively fighting the fire. The O.I.C (Officer In Charge) quickly assessed the site - discovering multiple gas cylinders, oil drums and a quantity of paint that posed an immediate risk. He... relayed a RED message to comms indicating a working fire and requested a second appliance. 16.58 306 HAZMAT tanker deployed. Due to the immediate dangers and the close proximity of multiple dwellings to the fire, a 200m exclusion zone was implemented. Firefighters ensured evacuation of all occupants. Crew were tasked in BA (breathing apparatus) with multiple lines of 38 (38mm wide firefighting hoses). The initial priority was to safely reduce the temperature of all gas cylinders within the hot zone and extinguish blazes from combustible liquids on the property. This was done with the assistance of our thermal imaging camera. Firefighting crew then worked alongside the RFS to extinguish the structure fires. On completion of this, the site was then handed back to the RFS. Many thanks to RFS crews from Trenayr, Lawrence and Dilkoon. Jodee from Dilkoon RFS
