25.01.2022 Located in the historic heart of Grafton, the Regional Gallery venue is amongst the best in the Clarence Valley, providing stylish and contemporary backdrops for a range of events such as intimate weddings, corporate, and private functions. After a multi-million dollar refurbishment, there is huge potential to take this well-known venue to the next level, and we are seeking a vendor to take over the Commercial Lease for the space. 12.01.2022 NAIDOC Week will now be held 8-15 November 2020 with the theme - Always Was, Always Will Be. To recognise and celebrate that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the ancient history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. This work is on exhibition now as part of the 2020 #jada by local Aboriginal artist Tulli Stevens IMAGE: Marlanya "Continue, ke...ep on" 2020 acrylic and paint pens on canvas, 91.5 x 91.5 cm (unframed) This artwork consists of one single continuous line across the entire painting, a line symbolising hope and new beginnings. Marlanya is the Gumbaynggirr word for "Continue, keep on", representing a collective journey of healing, growth and knowledge sharing. Drawing inspiration in the creation of this artwork from the recent bush fires that destroyed a vast amount of our country, we are reminded of how important it is to have a strong community connection. 12.01.2022 The Grafton Regional Gallery is well known for its celebration of contemporary drawing in all its forms, drawing sits at the foundation of most visual arts practice. In a recent discussion with ArtsHub, Niomi Sands, Director of Grafton Regional Gallery commented - ‘Sometimes we don’t think of drawing as a practice in itself, rather as a way to work out ideas as an artist, but it is an amazing part of arts practice it’s fundamental. I know what an extraordinary medium drawin...g is, and how dynamic it is now, as artists are always pushing the limits of traditional definitions. They revisit materials that have been around for centuries and look at them a different way'. This exhibition continues this tradition by shining a spotlight on the creativity of the region and shows the diversity of expression that can be captured through the time old medium of drawing. Frances will be a part of the Grafton Regional Gallery opening exhibition River to the Sea when the Gallery re-opens, we can't wait to show her work! Title - ‘Angwirri’ Frances Belle Parker 2021 Year - 2021 Artist Frances Belle Parker Yaegl Artist... (Angwirri - pronounced Ung-wer-ri) means begin to talk in Yaygirr Language from Maclean NSW. Artist Statement The colours are inspired by the vast array of colours present in the Australian landscape and coastline. The brown linear design symbolises a mapping of country/coastline. The circle markings depict the 250+ Aboriginal Language groups present in Australia and the linear marks represent the 200 nationalities that call Australia home. By creating this work, it gave myself the opportunity to help tell a story that not only represents who we are as a nation but also to give people a wider understanding of Aboriginal Culture and how valuable it really is to our identity as a nation. Our sense of belonging to the land is something that is intrinsically embedded into our being, and as First Nations people we are responsible for sharing the truth of our history. See more
