24.01.2022 PRICES EASE FURTHER AS BIDS SLIDE ON RAIN Widespread rain across northern New South Wales and southern Queensland has softened values for barley, sorghum and... wheat as demand from custom feeders and graziers evaporates. Countering this has been localised flooding, which has cut roads in parts of the outer slopes and plains including the Darling and Western Downs, and affected the flow of grain to some end users. At Goldstar Commodities in Goondiwindi, broker Geoff Webb said wheat values had eased by a few dollars per tonne, and barley had dropped by up to $20/t. 23.01.2022 Winter crop production in Australia is forecast to increase by 64% in 202021 to 47.9 million tonnes, 20% above the 10-year average to 201920 of 40 million tonnes. Around 60% of the forecast increase in production is from increased production in New South Wales. This is an 8% upward revision from the ABARES June 2020 forecast and reflects better than expected crop development during winter. Area planted to winter crops in 202021 is estimated to have increased by 23% from th...e drought affected season in 201920. For the major winter crops, wheat production is forecast to increase by 91% to 28.9 million tonnes, 22% above the 10-year average to 201920 of 23.7 million tonnes. Barley production is forecast to increase by 25% to 11.2 million tonnes, 23% above the 10-year average to 201920 of 9.1 million tonnes. Canola production is forecast to rise by 47% to 3.4 million tonnes, 4% above the 10-year average to 201920 of 3.3 million tonnes. https://www.agriculture.gov.au//australian-crop-r/overview

22.01.2022 Wheat production concerns in Europe spook markets The world wheat market is certainly at the whim of the weather right now, with future markets bouncing sharp...ly off an eight-month low set early last week as concerns for the state of the European Union (EU) winter crop start to outweigh those for the Russian crop. As the world emerges from the global coronavirus shutdown, northern hemisphere weather, especially in the EU, Russia and Ukraine, will most likely be the key wheat market drivers over the next six weeks. 22.01.2022 I love this land Australia, it’s coursing through my veins, But I’ve gotta tell ya mate, I like it better when it rains. The countryside is dying and there’s ju...st no end in sight, and just to rub salt in the wounds, the bush has caught alight. The landscape is on fire from Brisbane to the Gong And everybody’s asking where the hell did we go wrong? But we can get through this one if we help each other out, take care of your neighbour , that’s what Aussies are about. The rain is going to fall again , the good times will return. But living in Australia means at times it’s going to burn. So if you need a helping hand, just give a mate a call. We’re all here to help you out and catch you when you fall. The RFS, the SES, the Firies, and police, all put their lives upon the line to help to keep the peace. So hats off to these heroes and thanks for all you do And I hope when this is over we can make it up to you! Troy Gerdes.

21.01.2022 Feedgrain Focus: Wheat-to-barley spread widens Wheat prices have risen around $5 per tonne in the northern market in the past week, while barley has fallen by... the same amount. Wheat is now trading at $455/t per March-April delivery to Darling Downs consumers, compared with $375/t for barley. Barley is now thought to be cheap enough to be buying demand in the northern and southern markets. The normal rule of thumb for the wheat-barley spread is $15-$30, one trader said. It’s $80 now, which makes you wonder if wheat’s pretty tight, and there’s more barley around than we need now that drought feeding and backgrounding for the feedlots has quietened right down after the rain. In southern Queensland’s new-crop market, the July delivered Downs sorghum market is trading at $320/t in minimal volume, while January new-crop wheat is trading at $340/t, $30 above barley. 18.01.2022 Wheat, barley forecasts mostly higher as seeding gathers pace Soaking rain across much of New South Wales this month has brightened prospects for Australia’s ...2020/21 winter-crop production which has the potential to be above average as planting gets under way in all states. It has prompted Sydney-based brokerage and consultancy IKON Commodities Pty Ltd to lift its forecast for wheat by 2.3 per cent since last month to 28.53 million tonnes (Mt), while its barley number at 9.38Mt is up 3.2pc from last month. Numbers from Australian Crop Forecasters (ACF) are more conservative, but also show a lift from last month. 13.01.2022 Feedgrain Focus: Wheat mostly higher on northern dry Concerns about a lack of rain to finish the crop in southern Queensland and far northern New South Wales ...coupled with an active export program out of Victoria have lifted values for wheat in most markets this week. Barley values are quoted as steady to higher as growers withdraw offers in the hope of higher bids, while export demand for new-crop remains subdued in China’s absence. However, barley’s discount relative to wheat has bought it increased domestic demand going into the New Year. Read more https://loom.ly/fQOov5Y #GrainCentral #FeedgrainFocus

11.01.2022 US CORN DDGS TO HELP FILL COTTONSEED GAP IN MORE RATIONS The first bulk shipment of corn dried distillers’ grain with solubles (DDGS) is booked to berth in Br...isbane next month, and others for coming months are already planned, according to trade sources. It marks the opening of the next chapter in Australia’s drought-feeding saga, and is allowing feedlots, dairy farmers and stockfeed millers to formulate rations containing an historically low amount of cottonseed. This is a function of the drought’s impact on cotton production, with the crop about to be picked forecast by Cotton Australia at 600,000 bales, the smallest since 2012, and well below the near-record 2018 crop of 4.6 million bales picked in 2018. 09.01.2022 WA HARVEST INTAKE MORE THAN DOUBLES TO 1.48Mt Deliveries to CBH Group hit 1.48 million tonnes from the Western Australian 2019/20 harvest to 8 November, follo...wing the biggest receival week for all four of its zones which took in 865,000t in total. It’s been a tough year for a lot of our growers but, despite the dry season, we are seeing some really positive quality and yield results which is testament to how agronomy and cropping practices have advanced and enabled the industry to build this resilience, CBH general manager Ben Macnamara said. 09.01.2022 Feedgrain Focus: Export demand, local shorts lift values Barley values have found support from this week’s Saudi tender and some short covering in the norther...n market, while export demand for early shipment wheat is being seen in all active port zones. The northern market for prompt wheat and barley remains scrappy as small amounts trade at diverse values, and growers are paying attention to rising premiums for high-protein new-crop wheat. 03.01.2022 PULSE UPDATE: MUNGBEANS BOUYANT, OTHERS FLAT Spot demand for Australian pulses has fallen away, allowing the market to drop by up to $100 per tonne in the past ...month, but deferred demand is supporting values for mungbeans now being planted in Queensland following widespread rain Harvest of the rabi (winter) crop has now started in India’s southernmost growing areas, and will gather pace as it moves north over the next six to eight weeks into Pakistan and India’s main pulse-producing areas. This has turned the sub-continent market’s interest to its own chickpea and lentil crops and away from imports.
