25.01.2022 Daisie had a close encounter with the long arm of the law, she was pulled over for being too cute and had her photo taken with the arresting officer. :)

24.01.2022 Question: Where does 'Frank' the 72kg Leonberger sit? Answer: Anywhere he likes! #leonberger #leonbergersofinstagram #desexing #grangevetclinic

24.01.2022 Do you have a senior pet that needs a procedure, but you’re worried about anaesthetic risk? Rest assured, our vets will discuss any anaesthetic risks with you, and will only recommend a procedure if they think it is worthwhile for your pet’s health. We ensure anaesthesia is as safe as possible by using drugs and monitoring equipment used in human anaesthesia, conducting pre-anaesthetic blood tests as well as other checks, keeping your pet warm and on intravenous fluids, and making the procedure as short as possible. Call us today to chat if you’re concerned.

23.01.2022 We had the pleasure of having gorgeous Leo in today for desexing, and cuddles of course! Did you know that all dogs must be desexed by the age of 6 months in South Australia? Unless they are given an exemption for health reasons or you are a registered breeder.

23.01.2022 When plaque and tartar build up on your dogs teeth, bacteria can infect the gum tissue and enter the bloodstream, ending up in your dogs heart, causing heart disease. This is why regular health checks for your pet are so important, so that any potential teeth problems can be picked up early. If your pooch hasnt had a check-up with us recently, book in for a consultation today.

22.01.2022 With lots of new and exciting changes occurring here at the Grange Vet Clinic, we wanted to up date our staff photos and introduce you to our newest Veterinary Nurse, Koby. 21.01.2022 With rent, bills and all meals supplied our pets get it pretty good. There is, however, the risk that our pets can overeat if their food is too readily available, which can lead to obesity and other health concerns. To help prevent overeating, only give your pet access to food at designated meal times for a limited period. Keep your pet active with exercise and stimulation activities, so that theyre not only focused on food. Speak with us for advice on how much food to feed your pet, as sometimes food volume can be reduced.

21.01.2022 Canine cough, or kennel cough for its link with boarding kennels, is brought about by a group of viruses and bacteria that cause upper respiratory disease in dogs. Many causes of kennel cough can be vaccinated against, but your dog must be vaccinated annually for them to be fully protected (much like the human flu vaccine). Signs of kennel cough include a harsh, dry cough, loss of bark/voice, fatigue and nasal discharge.

20.01.2022 A few extra snacks and more comfy couch-time is likely translating to a bit of excess weight gain - and not just in us humans. Due to reduced activity and increased access to food, this downtime may have also added a few extra pounds to our pets. Before taking steps to reduce your pets weight, ask us for advice to ensure your pets weight-loss plan is safe and appropriate. We can weigh your pet and help you develop a sustainable plan to get them back to a healthy size.

20.01.2022 Some foods are delicious for us humans but very unhealthy for our pets. Steer your pup clear of chocolate, grapes, sultanas, onions, garlic and macadamia nuts, as they are all toxic foods for dogs. Some pets can also be lactose intolerant and become sick if they consume dairy products, like milk or cheese. If you do feed your pet dairy products, only feed in small amounts as a treat, and stop if any vomiting or diarrhoea occurs. Speak to us for further advice on which foods for your pet to avoid.

19.01.2022 Isnt Doctor Ritchie so lucky to get cuddles from the lovely Matilda <3 :) What breed do you think she is? :)

18.01.2022 As the cold and wet days linger through winter, remember to keep your pet warm, dry and comfortable. Carefully place your pets bed out of the weather and away from draughts, with a dry towel or rug to keep them warm. Coats can also help to protect your dog from the rain and keep them warm. Colder weather can also exacerbate arthritis in older pets with stiff joints, so chat with us today if you have any health concerns about your pet during winter. With a little TLC, your pet can stay warm and cosy while outside gets wet and cold.

17.01.2022 Have you noticed your pet shaking their head or scratching their ears more than usual? It might indicate a problem with their ears. Its a good idea to check your pets ears when youre giving them a pat or brush. Look for signs of black or waxy discharge in the ear canals, red scratches on their ears, a yeasty or strong odour coming from the ear canal or irritation or pain when you touch their ears. If you have any concerns, it is always best to bring them in for a check-up.

16.01.2022 If your pets coat is looking a little worse for wear since winters end, dont fret, skin and coat health can be maintained with just a few simple steps. Firstly, ensure your pet is on regular flea control and fed a good quality diet. Wash your pet in a gentle, pH-balanced shampoo and only as often as needed. There are numerous skin conditions that can affect pets, so visit the clinic or call us today if you notice any new or unusual changes to your pets skin conditions.

15.01.2022 House plants are a great way to bring life and colour to your home but not all plants are compatible with pets. If youve recently gotten new plants (or a new pet), check this list to make sure they arent toxic: - Lilies (including peace lily and lily flowers) - Oleander - Ivy - Sago palms... - Rubber tree plants - Philodendrons - Lantana See more

15.01.2022 Hi Im Moby and I am a 16 Month old Staffy. I came in for my Annual Vaccination and health check today and passed with flying colours!

15.01.2022 As the weather starts heating up, you might be wondering if you still need to use jackets and coats to keep your dog warm at night. If your dog has a short coat or low body fat, they will be more sensitive to the cold and will benefit from a winter jacket for longer. A good rule of thumb: if you see your dog shivering, or if the temperature is under 10 degrees, they will still benefit from a coat at night.

15.01.2022 Grain-free diets are marketed as more natural than other commercial pet foods, and these diets generally substitute cereals or grains for other sources of carbohydrates, such as potatoes and legumes. ‘Grain-free’ is not a protected or defined term, so it is possible that many of the diets marketed in this way may actually still contain grains. Like all pet food trends, it is best to avoid the hype and stick with high quality, AAFCO-accredited, complete and balanced diets. Talk to our friendly team for more information about the best pet food for your pet.

13.01.2022 Welcome KJ to South Australia, He was born and bred in Longreach Queensland and came in today for his second puppy vaccination. KJ showed his working dog heritage this morning by trying to round up pigeons in his backyard.

12.01.2022 If you have changed your phone number or address since your pet was microchipped, then it’s time to update their chip details. Check the paperwork that came with your pet’s microchip, as often you can call or update details online. If you no longer have that paperwork, check your pet’s microchip on www.petaddress.com.au to find out which registry they are on. If you don’t know your pet’s microchip number, just bring them into the clinic and we can scan their chip for the number.

12.01.2022 One of the unfortunate side effects of the COVID-19 restrictions is a reported increase in puppy scams. These scams prey on peoples emotions and trap people by selling puppies online that never existed. To avoid these scams, try to always meet your potential pups mother and view their breeding facility in person before handing over any money. This will also help prevent buying a puppy from unscrupulous or dodgy breeders.

12.01.2022 Good afternoon everyone, If you have a puppy between the age of 10 - 14 weeks and are interested in bringing them along to puppy pre-school, we have one spot left available for our next round of classes. Puppy pre-school offers a safe environment for your puppy to socialise and learn basic commands, whilst you as the owner learn all you need to know about your puppies health and well being.... If you would like to claim this spot please give us a call on 8356 0511. :) <3

12.01.2022 Do you own a snub-nosed or flat-faced dog? Also known as brachycephalic dogs, flat-faced breeds such as pugs, French bulldogs and British bulldogs are at an increased risk of developing breathing problems, and this risk only increases as they get older. Close monitoring can catch the problem before it gets too severe. We are happy to do a brachycephalic airway assessment on any flat-faced breed, just give us a call.

11.01.2022 We would like to say a big congratulations to Archie, Archie, Charlie and Scout! Who passed Puppy preschool last night!

11.01.2022 Papillon is french for butterfly. I think you can see why :)

11.01.2022 Heat stress is a risk to all pets, but particularly dogs and those kept in cages, such as rabbits and birds. All pets must have access to shade in a well-ventilated area, as well as constant access to cool, fresh water. Dogs should only be exercised in the early morning or evening. If your pets show signs of heat stress, such as open-mouth panting, collapse, or excessive salivating (dogs), contact us immediately. Let’s stay safe this summer.

11.01.2022 Annette Ritchie (Manager) I grew up in a semi rural area with farm animals and a horse plus the usual cat and dog and have always wanted to work with animals. I started working at the clinic in 2007 as the junior vet nurse. Now I am the Practice Manager but I still love the nursing side of the job the most. with Annette Ritchie at Grange Veterinary Clinic.

11.01.2022 Did you know that flat-faced dog breeds such as pugs and bulldogs are at increased risk of overheating because they can’t cool down as quickly as other breeds? This is due to their short muzzles and compact features. You can reduce their risk of overheating by avoiding exercise during warm weather, keeping your pet lean, providing them with a cool, well-ventilated area, and getting an airway assessment and physical exam done regularly by our vets. If you are worried your dog may be overheating, call us immediately.

11.01.2022 With winter well and truly here, you might have acquired an unwanted possum guest in your house. The first step to show your new guest out the door is learning what you can and cant do about it. Possums are a protected species in most states of Australia, so check with your local council before taking any action. Once youve blocked their access to your roof, consider offering an alternative such as a possum box in a tree in your backyard.

11.01.2022 Hey everyone, sorry we havent posted for a while. I hope everyone is having a lovely first week of August. We had "Honey" the 11 week old golden retriever come in tonight as she had jumped off the couch and injured her back leg. Thankfully nothing was hurt and she is still in perfect health. Hope you are all well and staying safe. <3 :)

11.01.2022 With so many different products on the market, it can be hard to know whats the best food for your pet. These general principles will help you buy a good quality, safe food for your furry friend: - Check the food is complete and balanced this means it has all the nutrients your pet needs for daily nutrition - Check for made to AAFCO standards this is another sign the food is complete and balanced - If produced in Australia, check the food complies with the Australian Standard (AS5812:2017), which is voluntary but recommended

10.01.2022 Does your cat get anxious when its time for a trip to the vet? Fortunately there are steps you can take to help make their experience a little less stressful. Get your cat used to their pet carrier before their appointment with us by practicing putting them in the carrier for short periods of time. You can also create a positive association for them by sneaking a few treats into the carrier. Speak to us about calming medications and pheromone sprays that could help keep your cat calm for their next visit with us.

10.01.2022 Do you have a cat that vomits? Although vomiting can be caused by medical conditions, one normal cause of occasional vomiting in otherwise healthy cats is hairballs. As cats self-groom, they ingest a lot of hair that is normally passed in their faeces, but sometimes this hair is vomited up. If you find your cat vomiting or retching frequently, in large volumes, or is unwell, make an appointment with us today.

10.01.2022 Nothing can bring an otherwise tough dog to their knees like a torn nail. Torn nails can bleed dramatically, but the real issue is the exposed bundle of nerves and blood vessels in the ‘quick’, which can lead to significant pain and infection, if left untreated. It’s best to bring your dog into the clinic if they’ve torn a nail. If there is a lot of bleeding, you can gently wrap their foot in a towel and bring them straight down.

09.01.2022 When travelling with dogs in the car, it’s important they are adequately restrained for both their safety and yours. Many car restraints for dogs aren’t thoroughly tested for safety, with reviews by Choice and the NRMA previously failing many of the available products as unsafe for people, pets or both. Make sure you research car restraints before buying and purchase a good quality restraint that has been thoroughly safety tested to protect both you and your pooch.

08.01.2022 There is a painful dental condition cats can suffer from called FRL (Feline Resorptive Lesions). The condition occurs when the tooth is eaten away, exposing the sensitive pulp of the tooth. Symptoms include lethargy and reduced appetite, and treatment involves removing the affected teeth. Cats with FRL dont always show signs of mouth pain and may require teeth x-rays to diagnose the condition. An important reminder to regularly have your cats teeth checked. Is it time to check your cats teeth?

07.01.2022 We would like to welcome this handsome boy, Archie, to our fur family, after his big travel from Sydney. We are all very excited to have him here and are especially looking forward to having him on Monday nights for puppy pre -school for the next four weeks. :) What breed and unique coat colour does everyone think Archie is? :)

07.01.2022 Good oral health is important for your dog’s overall health. Many people feed raw bones to help keep their dog’s teeth clean, however there are risks with feeding bones to dogs. Raw bones can lead to fractured teeth, constipation, choking and even perforation of the intestines. Consider other options for keeping teeth clean, such as daily brushing with a soft pet toothbrush, veterinary-formulated dental chews, water additives or booking in for a scale and polish.

07.01.2022 Little Ernie was being very cool calm and collected, patiently waiting for the vet tonight :) <3

06.01.2022 Good morning everyone. We hope you have all had a lovely weekend! We had the pleasure of meeting this basket of joy as a welcome to our Monday morning. Its no wonder they have all already snagged their forever homes!

06.01.2022 How often you should wash your dog depends on their breed, lifestyle and skin health. If your dog is a short-coated breed that lives outside, they probably only need to be washed with gentle dog shampoo twice a year. If you have a long-coated breed, or a dog that lives inside, or one that goes swimming regularly, you might want to wash more often. Dog’s don’t need to be bathed weekly, unless they have a skin condition that requires medicated shampoo.

05.01.2022 Are you fe-line like you need a holiday? If you're planning a getaway this summer, it’s important to check your cat has everything they need before boarding. Make sure your cat’s parasite control and vaccinations are up-to-date. All catteries require proof of current F3 vaccination before accepting your cat. If you’re unsure whether your cat is fully vaccinated, or you know they’re overdue, give us a call today.

05.01.2022 If you find a baby bird all by itself one day, take some time to watch, and ensure its parents arent still around caring for it. If the bird is small and not fully feathered, try to find its nest and, if you can, place it back inside the nest. If you arent able to reach its nest, call your local wildlife group to seek further advice. If the bird is injured, just bring them into the clinic and we can check them over.

05.01.2022 If your pet has a thick or double coat, youll notice them start to shed as the winter weather comes to an end. Groomers can help to remove the dead hair from your pets winter coat or if you are keen to do it yourself just make sure you use a brush that is gentle on the skin. Brush in the direction that the hair grows and if you encounter a mat, gently untangle it with your fingers. If your dog has several mats, take them to a groomer for assistance.

05.01.2022 Urine spraying in cats can be frustrating and an unwelcome behaviour, but what does it mean? The causes of urine spraying vary between cats, so its important to get to the root cause. Some of our feline friends may spray due to stress and anxiety, territory marking or medical causes, such as renal failure or UTIs. Make an appointment with us to say nay to the spray today.

05.01.2022 Giving your dog a bath helps to clean their coat, but its also important to regularly clean your pets toys, bowls and bedding too. This helps remove dirt, germs and odour, as well as any potential flea eggs in the bedding. Use a gentle detergent or washing powder, rinse thoroughly and make sure everything is nice and dry before returning it to your pet to use again.

04.01.2022 EXCITING NEWS! Grange vet clinic are now on Instagram! Please head over to the page for pet care tips, an insight of whats happening in the clinic and of course to see our cute clients https://www.instagram.com/grangeveterinary/

03.01.2022 As fleas dont reproduce as rapidly in winter as they do in other seasons, it might seem easier not to worry about pet flea control during this period. However, if you heat your house or have a surprise flea nest in your skirting boards, bypassing your pets regular flea preventatives may risk your house being overrun with the parasite. Continue to use flea preventatives year-round and throughout winter to keep your home parasite-free.

03.01.2022 Vet visits can be fun! Vera and Riley are enjoying some puppy playtime will waiting for their consults. #puppylove #puppiesofinstagram

02.01.2022 Good Morning, Just wanted to say a big congratulations to Willow, Coco and Leonard for passing the first Puppy school class back since COVID 19. All fur babies and humans did very well and we look forward to seeing them back here in the future <3 :)

02.01.2022 Though they are bundles of joy, kids and puppies need their interactions monitored in order to stay safe. If pushed far enough, any dog can bite. Thats why its essential to be adamant about training and socialising your dog. Teach your kids to read dog behaviour a growl means its time to back off. Establishing boundaries and providing safe spaces for your dog is also important. Try giving your pup a little me time by using a child gate to portion off sections of your house.
