17.01.2022 WE WANT YOU! Do you have a pumping food garden- veggies and fruit trees?, large or small, or have you got good knowledge to share with other about how to grow f...ood in a small space in the Darwin region ? We are super happy to announce that we have received a grant from City of Darwin, to make 3 (very) short movies with a local film maker about backyard food gardens, featuring top tips for people starting out, to answer those frequently asked questions. These will be 1) Our climate, our soil, our season and what grows here 2) How to design your garden, make a veggie bed and get started. 3) If you dont have a garden, where can you join a community garden or buy local produce *We will be advocating for organic/ permaculture style planting with no chemical pesticides/ herbicides/ fertilisers. We have already lined up some very knowledgeable locals, but if you want to add any top tips below, please do. If you would like to feature PM us or email [email protected]. WE ARE ESPECIALLY looking for some pumping "dry season plantings" before the tomatoes and lettuces shrivel up. This would be to film NEXT WEEK. Please get in touch x *GULP NT - Stands for Growing and Using Local Produce NT. It was formed 8 years ago and is a Darwin based community group, connecting community through the growing and sharing of local food.

10.01.2022 Today we officially opened Gulguk Tropical Pantry, a tropical, edible community garden located at the entrance of Civic Plaza. The Garden was created with input... from all areas of the community, from its development through local residents, to its name which was chosen from entries at the Darwin Show. Gulguk is the Larrakia word for Green Ant and Tropical Pantry is how Larrakia people often refer to the bush. The garden was built and is maintained with help from the Australian Governments Jobactive program participants. Please feel free to stop by and enjoy the garden if you are in the area. See more

04.01.2022 We are a collective of organisations (tagged) with a shared understanding that growing edible food can be a force for good in society. We share a commitment to ...support the expansion of all forms of edible food growing in Australian towns and cities, and for that reason are collaborating to organise the 3rd national Urban Agriculture Forum (www.uaf.org.au). In support of that commitment, we are interested in understanding the extent to which the COVID19 restrictions and their legacy have impacted the attitude and actions of community members towards edible food growing. Find out more and have your say now: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/foodgrowing If you have any questions, contact Georgia Karavis, Sustain Communications Coordinator - [email protected] We also ask that you share this survey with friends and colleagues as well as community garden / school garden groups and other local food networks.
