10.01.2022 We were lucky enough to have Member for Lakemba and former Hurstville Boys High School student, Jihad Dib speak to our boys during their Year 9 Peer Support Program. He spoke about the importance of setting and achieving goals, overcoming disadvantage and being the best version of themselves. Mr Dib also joined our boys in some leadership reflection activities where he shared his experiences at the school. Our collaborative partnership with Raise aimed to support our students’ wellbeing and engagement through early intervention. Last week we celebrated with our Raise Graduation Ceremony. 03.01.2022 Our Year 8 students have been invited to participate in a world first study about how smart phones can be used to enhance teenagers mental health and wellbeing. The study is being run by researchers at the Black Dog Institute and the University of New South Wales, along with over 140 schools, to better understand the changes that take place in mental health from early adolescence to adulthood. Students in the study will complete surveys and try out mental health apps to identify and prevent symptoms of depression and anxiety. Students wrote their script, delegated the roles for cast and crew and recorded the raw footage for their film. 01.01.2022 Year 9 and 10 GRC Hurstville English students were treated to a slam poetry presentation by award-winning poet Philip Wilcox as part of their Term 1 English unit. The boys listened attentively to a masterful manipulation of the English language, and gained an appreciation for contemporary poetry. They were also given the chance to participate in the creation of their own poetry and to engage in the rhythm.
