25.01.2022 A cold front has come through today, bringing wet and windy weather. Now that stage 4 restrictions have come into place in Metro Melbourne it is more important than ever to stay safe. As an emergency service operator we will still be active throughout the next 6 weeks. We are taking extreme care to ensure we minimise the spread of covid19 and keep our members and the community safe.... Remember if you ever need us, you can always rely on us to be there when you call 132 500.

24.01.2022 As the coronavirus pandemic progresses, we need to make sure we adhere to social distancing rules whenever we are around other people. Use this handy guide we've put together to estimate how far apart you should stay! 5 traffic cones... 3 chainsaws 1 fallen branch Stay safe with SES --- As always, remember we are still available 24/7 to help the community. Call 132 500 for assitance.

24.01.2022 Thanks for your patience! We have been very busy tonight

22.01.2022 Did you you feel the earth move tonight? You may not know that VICSES is the Control Agency for Earthquakes in Victoria

22.01.2022 We have already had a really wet year, and are entering a period of hightened rain. It is important you know what to do in the event a flood could impact your property. BAG IT Lay sandbags where water may enter your home (doors, low windows).... BLOCK IT Cover toilets and drains to stop backflow. LIFT IT Place valuables on tables and the benchtop. LEAVE Leave early to travel to higher ground.

21.01.2022 Tonight, several locations around the state will be lit up orange for our members! This includes the Drum theatre in Dandenong Check out the interactive map here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/embed... Please tag us in your posts if you see any orange today!

21.01.2022 #maskupvictoria We always wear out masks when out and about. Lana's mask was made by a fellow member to match her uniform!... Great work team

20.01.2022 Masks are now mandatory. We currently have over 60 active covid19 cases within the Greater Dandenong area. Help yourself and our community stay safe (and also avoid a $200 fine) by wearing a face covering when you leave the house.... --- As always, we are still responding to requests for help from the community, but will keep our distance where possible and ask you to do the same if you see us out and about.

20.01.2022 Searches are big operations, bringing together many emergency services. Around 150 VICSES members from many units were out today, including several from Greater Dandenong. We often practice search skills as a unit to ensure we are well prepared to assist Vic Police.

20.01.2022 Today is #WearOrangeWednesday - dedicated to our colleagues at Victoria State Emergency Service to say #ThankYouSES for being there when our communities need yo...u. SES volunteers take on a number of emergencies from storm, flood, road crash rescue, and most recently during our fire season, SES supported the big task of recovery. Make sure you drop a little to show your support! Glenrowan Fire Brigade

19.01.2022 Last night (Friday 26 June) at about 10.30pm a man fell at a skate bowl in Noble Park sustaining a fractured femur. Paramedics requested assistance from the Fir...e services to extricate the injured man. A high angle rescue crew from CFA Dandenong assisted by crews from MFBs Ladder Platform 25 secured the patient into a stretcher and then used the ladder platform to transport the patient to ground level. Whilst only about 3m down, with the patients injury and consideration for emergency workers safety, the ladder platform is an effective rescue tool. The man was transported to the Alfred Hospital for emergency surgery. Greater Dandenong SES also provided support and lighting.

18.01.2022 A interview with one of our members for National Volunteer Week

18.01.2022 This week is Road Safety Week Like all other emergency services, we're often out and about in tricky situations on the road. While we set up emergency traffic management, there's always still a lot of risk we face simply by the work we do. Please always remember: if you see flashing lights, slow down to 40 km/h to pass.... More info on Road Safety Week can be found here: https://roadsafetyweek.com.au/

18.01.2022 It's something none of us want to experience, but could always happen to you. Lessen the likelihood of your car being broken into or stolen by following simple tips from our friends at Neighbourhood Watch Greater Dandenong. Neighbourhood watch will be running a few seminars featuring experts from Car Safe and Victoria Police. Register to attend at this link: https://nhw.com.au/webinars/... --- Did you know? When a car crashes into a building, we are called to assist with making the structure safe temporarily. The cause of the crashes range, but occasionally it is a stolen car.

16.01.2022 Melbourne is orange! Landmarks across Melbourne and regional Victoria have lit up in orange tonight to say #ThankyouSES as part of #WOWDay. Thank you to all the SES volunteers across the country for everything you do.

16.01.2022 We've experienced strong winds overnight and they will be continuing today. Park away from trees if possible and look out for debris while driving. Call 132 500 if you need assistance.

16.01.2022 Fine tuning our pump skills at training last night! We have a few different types of pumps allowing us to respond to a wide range of flood calls. The team here is setting up one of our larger pumps, which can pump 100s of litres of water every minute!

14.01.2022 Happy Father's Day to all our fantastic volunteers out there with kids!

14.01.2022 A clear reminder to us all to avoid driving in strong winds and to not park under trees if possible. Luckily no one in this car at the time, but could have been a tragic event.

12.01.2022 We've been assisting Vic Police with the Search for Malcolm, with another crew heading out tomorrow. Please keep a lookout if you live or work in the area.

12.01.2022 It only takes #15tofloat An important message to keep in mind as we get through the wetter months. You can never know for sure how deep the water is.

11.01.2022 We are very happy to report to you that the spoonville at Roth Hetherington Botanical Native Garden in Keysborough now has its own SES member! That's the spoon with the orange helmet. With all the rain we have been having recently we thought it would be best to make sure the residents of this spoonville are safe from storms and floods. If you have a damaged roof, see a tree over a road, or your house is flooding remember to call 132 500 to get free assistance from our volunteers who are on call 24/7 for their communities. Also if you know of any other spoonvilles in Greater Dandenong that need protection from storms and floods let us know so we can protect them too!

11.01.2022 We are proud to support the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in celebration of NAIDOC Week. For more info, visit: www.naidoc.org.au/

11.01.2022 Today on Wear Orange Wednesday were celebrating and recognising the incredible VICSES volunteers who support not only Victoria Police but the entire community ...during anything from floods and storms to search and rescues. 11.01.2022 The numbers are going down, but we still have over 200 active cases in Greater Dandenong. Keep up the good work everyone! Always wear a mask when outside, and use good hand hygiene.... We will get through this

11.01.2022 The weather's been wild lately - some amazing sunshine over the weekend, but also some really windy days. Last week our day crew were called to this job. The wind had managed to knock over a whole tree! After blocking the section of road at either end with our vehicles, the team made quick work of the tree, cutting it into small pieces that were then carried off the road.... Great work everyone! --- Remember: as the weather continues to change you can keep up to date with the latest warnings at http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/warnings/ and for all emergency warnings see https://www.emergency.vic.gov.au/ Stay safe Greater Dandenong!

10.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds as a cold front moves across Victoria on Monday Check the latest warning at http://ow.ly/PHmR50zUKTK

10.01.2022 #maskupmelbourne Even our emergency vehicles are wearing masks! Wearing a mask while out in public helps keep everyone safe, and we're encouraging everyone (who's able) to wear their masks proud!... Share us your best mask selfie in the comments.

09.01.2022 Our friends in Chelsea organised a special day for a local boy. Normally we love to get out and about to festivals and events to meet the wider community, but the pandemic has put a hold on that. It's great to see everyone still working together and putting on a great display just for this family.... We can't wait to get back out and meet you all!

09.01.2022 Dandenong has turned Orange. Thanks to City of Greater Dandenong for the love shown to our VICSES Greater Dandenong Unit volunteers who are here to keep our community safe 24 hours a day/7 days a week. #WOWDay #thankyouSES

07.01.2022 2020 has been a crazy year so far for everyone, and we would just like to take the time to say thanks again to our amazing volunteers for their hard work! Our volunteers are always there supporting the response to emergencies within our local area, and greater Victoria. From the beginning of the year we had crews out assisting firefighters with critical support tasks around the state. Since then we've been continuing operations through the pandemic. If and when Victoria needs... us, our volunteers are always ready to go, no matter what the task or emergency is Please join us in thanking our volunteers

07.01.2022 Last night our first crew returned to face-to-face training. Since March we have been doing all our training online. Our training team did a great job keeping us up to date and make every week interesting despite us being stuck at home. We are so excited now to be returning to training at the unit.... We will be focussing on our critical skills to get us through the next few months, including tasks relating to managing floods, as we are still expecting large rainfall into Summer. --- Remember, even though we are starting to go back to 'normal', coronavirus is still a risk. We appreciate that you keep your distance if you are us out and about.

07.01.2022 In case you missed it - the wind and rain have really picked up in the last half hour. A cold front has come through and we've already started getting calls out to help. Use this handy guide to determine who you should call during a storm. If anyone's life is in danger always make sure to call 000.

06.01.2022 Well now that our unit has finished up making sure you and your homes are safe after all that windy weather we turned our attention to the spoonville on Cutler Avenue in Keysborough. Cutler Avenue spoons can rest easy now as they too will be protected from storms and floods to come with their very own SES spoon. That's the one in the white and orange! There is a heavy rain season forecast so remember to check your gutters and trim those branches before it is too late. If you need our SES volunteers for assistance we will be here 24/7 to respond to your calls on our free 132 500 line.

06.01.2022 With the heavy rainfall overnight, and continuing through this morning, we are getting lots of call outs for flooding. Stay safe and don't enter flood water. If you are waiting for our assistance please understand we have many calls and are doing our best to get to everyone ASAP.

05.01.2022 Please keep yourself updated on current restrictions. It will be compulsory from Thursday to wear a mask when you leave your house for one of the four permitted reasons. If you're not sure what counts as a reason to leave the home, it's best to stay home and stay safe.

05.01.2022 Curfew is sticking around for a while, and so are other coronavirus restrictions. Please remember that you can always leave your home during an emergency. Don't stay in your house if this poses a danger or significant risk to you and your family.... Your safety is the top priority.

04.01.2022 There is an identified coronavirus cluster in the Casey area. The DHHS is encouraging anyone in Dandenong and the surrounding areas to get tested if you have any COVID19 symptoms. These include: - fever... - sore throat - cough - loss of sense of smell or taste New pop-up testing clinics has been set up around Greater Dandenong, including one at the Noble Park Skate Park Carpark. Find more details here: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/where-get-tested-covid-19

04.01.2022 A message of thanks for our amazing volunteers from the Premier of Victoria, Dan Andrews. We're proud to serve communities across Victoria 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. #thankyouSES

04.01.2022 Well it has been a very busy past few days for everyone here at SES with that nasty weather that swept across the state last night. There were thousands of requests for us to assist the public. Today Anthony, Zulfi, Sanjeev and Dan went up to SES Emerald Unit to give them a hand with operations. The Emerald area and its surrounds were some of the hardest hit places in Victoria and you can see below some of the things we encountered whilst out today. There will be active oper...ations for days to come so please ensure you keep yourself safe. Be careful as many roads remain closed due to fallen trees and powerlines. From the thousands of calls we have received we know many of you are aware of how to contact us, but if you don't, you can call 132 500 and our volunteers will be at the ready at any time of the day and night to provide you with free assistance.

02.01.2022 We are still experiencing strong winds with the potential to cause severe damage. Please stay safe and be proactive by securing loose yard items, parking away from trees and staying indoors where possible. If you must drive somewhere, always be aware of changing conditions and pull over if it is dangerous. Keep up to date and find further info on this warning at http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDV21037.shtml
